APERA INSTRUMENTS / PH60-Z / AI3711

Everyday water checks.
A probe you can replace.

Measure pH and temperature in general aqueous samples without needing a phone. Apera PH60-Z combines button calibration and a clear display with the replaceable PH60-DE glass-bulb probe. Bluetooth supports a separate ZenTest workflow for connected data handling.

Choose AI3711 for liquid immersion, not food penetration or dry surfaces. A replaceable probe separates sensor maintenance from the meter body, not sample-chemistry limits.

Each card opens that kit page, not an upgrade for the current meter. Match the supplied head and supported measurements. Phones and additional probes are not included unless the exact kit contents say so.

Choose the right configuration.

A bulb built for liquid contact

PH60-DE combines a glass bulb, temperature sensor, double junction and blue inner gel. Wet both the sensing area and reference junction. Keep the glass clear of the vessel bottom.

Calibrate where you measure

Automatic recognition supports 1-3 calibration points. Start at neutral, then select standards for your sample range. The default 0.01 pH resolution is a display increment, not guaranteed sample accuracy.

Useful on its own

Measure, calibrate and use HOLD without a phone. Correctly assembled, the IP67 enclosure floats. Seat caps and connections securely; protect the glass from impact.

Where this configuration fits.

Routine water checks

Check general water samples at a bench or sampling point. Use a clean vessel, rinse between locations and compare results at similar temperatures.

Aqueous solution preparation

Check compatible water-based mixtures during preparation or adjustment. Match calibration standards to the expected pH and verify suitability before testing concentrated reagents, solvents or other aggressive chemistry.

Portable repeat checks

Move between sample locations without a phone. Use stability indication and HOLD consistently; HOLD freezes the display rather than creating stored measurement history.

PH60-Z illustrated sample contact
Liquid-sample measurement with a connected phone. Phone, sample vessel and liquids are illustrative props, not included.

Calibrate first.
Then give the bulb full contact.

Prepare fresh portions of calibration buffer. Select the correct USA or NIST family and begin at pH 7.00 or 6.86 respectively. Wait for the stability indicator before confirming, then continue to the next point without powering off. Use at least two points for a more dependable working calibration.

Rinse the probe, immerse it sufficiently to cover the sensing area and reference junction, and stir briefly to release external bubbles. The manual troubleshooting guidance calls for at least one inch of liquid immersion. Hold still until stable, keeping the glass clear of the container wall and bottom.

Allow sample temperature to stabilize. ATC covers 0-50°C and corrects electrode response, not all chemical pH changes with temperature. The -2.00 to 16.00 pH display range is not universal compatibility with strong acids, alkalis, solvents or extreme samples.

A closer look at the supplied sensor.

PH60-DE glass-bulb replacement pH probe
PH60-DE is the matching pH probe geometry. A replacement head is a separate maintenance purchase; the photo does not promise a particular shield revision.

Keep the glass clean.
Keep the cap ready.

Rinse before and after each measurement, including between calibration buffers. Do not rub or wipe the glass bulb. For persistent deposits, follow the probe cleaning instructions with a suitable cleaner, then condition in 3M KCl and recalibrate before returning to samples.

For daily or weekly use, keep the cap wet and tightly closed with its seal in place. For long-term storage, use 3M KCl up to the cap fill line. Do not store the probe immersed in tap, RO, distilled or deionized water; rinsing and storage are different jobs.

Replace damaged or exhausted probes with PH60-DE, AI3711-E. Protect the connector, align without force, tighten the ring, condition and calibrate. Cap solution is not an internal reference refill. Remove a shield only if the fitted probe has a removable one.

PH60-Z probe cleaning and 3M KCl storage guide
Original care guide, not an exact bottle or probe rendering. Follow the supplied instructions; the KCl icon does not indicate bottle size or an internal reference refill.
PH60-Z sample-contact method illustration
A practical method guide. This original illustration is schematic, not exact probe geometry; the measurement conditions also appear in the accompanying text.
PH60-Z display and measurement, Bluetooth and calibration buttons
Display and physical controls detail. The shown reading is illustrative. HOLD freezes a reading; it is not a meter measurement-history logger.

Read the meter.
Know what is held.

Use the physical controls for standalone measurement and calibration. The stable-reading indicator and HOLD help you read a result; a held display is not an onboard measurement-history logger for later upload.

Keep the connectors and battery compartment dry when changing parts. Follow the exact manual for key sequences, battery orientation and cap sealing. Screen values in photographs are illustrative, not test results or a promise of compatibility with another sensing head.

Choose a connected workflow.
Keep its limits clear.

The tester measures and calibrates without a phone. Connect a compatible smartphone inside ZenTest, rather than treating operating-system PIN pairing as the measurement workflow. Bluetooth, required phone permissions and a nearby powered tester are needed for new connected readings. A smartphone is not included.

ZenTest offers Simple, Dial, Graph and Table views, with manual and timed recording, measurement/calibration records, and tools for notes, photos and location tagging. Available parameters still depend on the exact body and fitted head. Display choices cannot add pH or conductivity to an unsupported model.

Account and cloud functions depend on the compatible app, service and internet connection. Reviewing already saved records while disconnected is not continuous measurement acquisition outside Bluetooth range. Keep an independent copy of important records and check the current app listing for device compatibility before purchase.

Publisher documentation describes data sharing/export, and Apple release history identifies CSV. Native Excel or PDF reports, exact current logging intervals, and identical export behavior on both operating systems are not promised. Neither the meter nor this app overview establishes an immutable audit trail, regulatory compliance, guaranteed background alarms or offsite safety monitoring. Check your recordkeeping procedure before relying on connected data.

Official ZenTest pH dial display illustration
Official app illustration with an example pH reading. Your own compatible phone is required; screen appearance can vary. This is not a promise of live offsite monitoring.

Compare a standalone alternative.

Alternative format: Apera PH60 Waterproof Pocket pH Tester Kit (AI311). Compare the exact standalone kit when Bluetooth-connected recordkeeping is not needed. A related family name does not establish the same probe upgrades or app support.

PH60-Z buyer questions

Do I need my phone to take a reading?

No. pH and temperature measurement, button calibration, the stable-reading indicator and HOLD work on the tester. ZenTest is the separate route for logging and connected data management, not a requirement for ordinary measurements.

Is this the right version for flat surfaces or food?

Choose PH60F-Z for wetted surfaces and controlled small volumes, or PH60S-Z for moist soft-solid sampling. PH60-Z is for aqueous immersion. Other probe shapes are sold separately.

Can it measure pure or distilled water accurately?

Low-ionic-strength water can produce slow or unstable results with a general-purpose probe. A specialized electrode and controlled method may be necessary. Do not assume that adding electrolyte leaves the original sample unchanged.

What if calibration will not settle?

Check fresh buffers, the selected buffer family, hydration, cleanliness and full sensor contact first. Er2 means confirmation came before stability. Clean and condition the probe, recalibrate, then check a fresh known buffer before deciding it needs replacement.

Which replacement probe fits PH60-Z?

PH60-DE (AI3711-E) is the matching replacement. PH60-DE, PH60F-DE and PH60S-DE are supported pH alternatives, sold separately. Choose by sample type and recalibrate after fitting.

Can I add ORP or conductivity?

Optional ORP60-DA, AI3717-DA, replaces the pH probe for ORP. Do not substitute ORP60-DE. A conductivity probe is not a supported EC upgrade.

What is included with the kit?

Tester with matching probe and cap, pH 4.00 and 7.00 buffers, calibration vials, 3M KCl, lanyard, case, instructions and four AAA batteries. Phones, sample props and alternate probes are not supplied.

What should I check before replacing a probe?

Check buffers, cleanliness, hydration and connection; recalibrate and verify a known buffer. Warranty excludes routine wear, accidental damage and incorrect storage.
