APERA INSTRUMENTS / PC60-Z / AI3719
Check pH and conductivity with the supplied PC60-DE combo head, then view EC-derived TDS, salinity and resistivity as needed. PC60-Z brings a double-junction pH reference, platinum-black conductivity sensor and temperature sensing into one replaceable head for compatible aqueous samples.
Choose PC60-Z for pH plus EC work with standalone meter operation and optional phone-connected functions. The supplied combo head is not an ORP sensor. ORP measurement requires a separately purchased ORP60-DA head and a physical head change.
Each card opens that kit page, not an upgrade for the current meter. Match the supplied head and supported measurements. Phones and additional probes are not included unless the exact kit contents say so.

AI3713
Moist soft-solid samples
PH60S-DE spear glass; sacrificial sample method.
AI3717
Dedicated ORP
ORP60-DE head; not a pH-convertible body.
AI3718
Conductivity and conversions
EC60-DE head; no pH or supported ORP upgrade.
AI3719

PC60-DE combo head; ORP60-DA sold separately.
AI3803
Combo plus separate ORP head
PC60-Z meter with PC60-DE and separate ORP60-DA.
The blue glass pH bulb and platinum-black conductivity rods have different jobs. Temperature sensing supports the meter’s compensation functions. This combined construction reduces the equipment to carry, but each direct measurement still needs its own calibration routine and appropriate sample handling.
TDS, salinity and resistivity are derived from conductivity. The TDS factor adjusts from 0.40 to 1.00, with 0.71 as the default. Record the factor when comparing ppm results, and do not interpret the display as identification of nutrients, contaminants or individual ions.
Measure and calibrate using the meter’s own buttons when a phone is unnecessary. For ORP work later, fit the optional ORP60-DA instead of the combo head. It is a change of sensor, not a software unlock or an additional simultaneous measurement from PC60-DE.
Follow both acidity and ionic strength in compatible nutrient solutions. pH and EC answer different questions, so test both rather than assuming a good result in one means the other is correct. Stay within the stated ranges.
Compare source water, prepared solutions and freshwater process samples. The portable format is useful where a bench station is inconvenient. Neither pH nor EC-derived TDS by itself establishes potability, contamination identity or a complete water-quality assessment.
Demonstrate calibration, temperature settings and the relationship between conductivity and TDS. For very low-conductivity water, pH can take longer to settle; use a suitable method rather than treating a slow response as an automatic instrument fault.
Use fresh portions of standards and rinse between them. Start pH calibration at 7.00 in the USA buffer series, then add an appropriate second or third point without switching off. The supplied pH buffers are 4.00 and 7.00. Five recognized buffer values do not mean five calibration points or five bottles supplied.
Calibrate conductivity separately, beginning with 1413 µS/cm. Use 12.88 mS/cm for higher-conductivity work above 2 mS/cm or when a check indicates it is needed. The supported 84 µS/cm standard is not supplied. Fully immerse the sensing area, release bubbles with a brief stir and wait for the stable icon before reading.
Compare like settings: EC defaults are 25 °C reference temperature and 2.00%/°C compensation. Check TDS factor and ppm versus ppt units. If a low-ionic-strength pH method adds KCl to stabilize the reading, use a separate aliquot for original-sample EC, TDS, salinity or resistivity because the addition changes conductivity.
Rinse away sample residue after testing. For regular combo-head storage, a few water droplets inside the tightly closed cap maintain humidity. This is not an instruction to immerse the sensing tip in water. Never store the combo probe in tap, RO, distilled or deionized water; pure water is for rinsing.
If the combo probe becomes dry or slow, condition it externally in 3M KCl for about two hours. Never exceed 24 hours, because prolonged soaking can damage the conductivity sensor. The supplied KCl is an external soaking solution, not evidence of a user-refill procedure or a reason to open the probe.
After more than a month unused, follow the manual’s 15-minute KCl preparation and recalibration routine. For difficult contamination, follow the shield-removal and cleaning instructions, avoid rough treatment of the glass bulb and observe the same 24-hour conditioning ceiling. Keep electrical contacts clean and dry when replacing the head.
Use the physical controls for standalone measurement and calibration. The stable-reading indicator and HOLD help you read a result; a held display is not an onboard measurement-history logger for later upload.
Keep the connectors and battery compartment dry when changing parts. Follow the exact manual for key sequences, battery orientation and cap sealing. Screen values in photographs are illustrative, not test results or a promise of compatibility with another sensing head.
The tester measures and calibrates without a phone. Connect a compatible smartphone inside ZenTest, rather than treating operating-system PIN pairing as the measurement workflow. Bluetooth, required phone permissions and a nearby powered tester are needed for new connected readings. A smartphone is not included.
ZenTest offers Simple, Dial, Graph and Table views, with manual and timed recording, measurement/calibration records, and tools for notes, photos and location tagging. Available parameters still depend on the exact body and fitted head. Display choices cannot add pH or conductivity to an unsupported model.
Account and cloud functions depend on the compatible app, service and internet connection. Reviewing already saved records while disconnected is not continuous measurement acquisition outside Bluetooth range. Keep an independent copy of important records and check the current app listing for device compatibility before purchase.
Publisher documentation describes data sharing/export, and Apple release history identifies CSV. Native Excel or PDF reports, exact current logging intervals, and identical export behavior on both operating systems are not promised. Neither the meter nor this app overview establishes an immutable audit trail, regulatory compliance, guaranteed background alarms or offsite safety monitoring. Check your recordkeeping procedure before relying on connected data.
Alternative format: Apera PC60 pH/EC/TDS/Salinity Tester Kit (AI316). Compare the exact standalone kit when Bluetooth-connected recordkeeping is not needed. A related family name does not establish the same probe upgrades or app support.
No. PC60-DE measures pH, conductivity and temperature. ORP requires optional ORP60-DA, sold separately, fitted in place of the combo head. A millivolt label does not make a pH electrode an ORP sensor.
PCO60-Z includes the PC60-Z meter and combo head plus a separate ORP60-DA head. This PC60-Z kit does not include that extra ORP head. Both configurations require a physical head change for ORP.
No. Do not substitute the ORP60-DE used by the dedicated ORP60-Z tester. The specified ORP upgrade for PC60-Z is ORP60-DA. Match the exact accessory designation before ordering.
A different conversion factor can produce different ppm from the same EC. At 1000 µS/cm, factor 0.71 gives 710 ppm and factor 0.50 gives 500 ppm. Compare settings before diagnosing a fault.
Not directly: the salinity ceiling is 10.00 ppt, below normal seawater, and EC is limited to 20.00 mS/cm. Select a different range for ordinary marine salinity work.
No. The meter supports standalone measurement and calibration. Phone-connected app functions are separate, and no smartphone is supplied. The meter itself is not an internal measurement-history logger.
The kit includes 3M KCl for external combo-probe conditioning, alongside pH 4.00/7.00 buffers and the two EC standards. Do not treat KCl as a pH calibration buffer or an internal refill instruction.
The instrument has a two-year manufacturer warranty and the probe a six-month warranty from delivery, subject to terms and exclusions. Normal wear, misuse and accidental damage are not a guaranteed replacement entitlement.
