APERA INSTRUMENTS / ORP60-Z / AI3717

A dedicated redox reading.
A deliberate testing routine.

Measure oxidation-reduction potential and temperature with a pocket instrument built for general aqueous samples. ORP60-Z combines a platinum sensing pin, the dedicated ORP60-DE replaceable probe and familiar button controls. Work directly from the meter, or connect your own compatible phone when you need ZenTest's recording tools.

Choose AI3717 for ORP in millivolts, not as a multiparameter starter body. Its dedicated probe connection does not establish a pH upgrade path. The kit brings the tester, checking standard and care essentials together in a carrying case for a repeatable routine between sampling locations.

Each card opens that kit page, not an upgrade for the current meter. Match the supplied head and supported measurements. Phones and additional probes are not included unless the exact kit contents say so.

Choose the right configuration.

The right head for this body

ORP60-DE combines a platinum sensing pin, double-junction reference structure and temperature sensor. It is the dedicated replacement for ORP60-Z. ORP60-DA, intended for other compatible ZenTest bodies, is not an alternate name for this head. Match the complete model and replacement code when ordering.

Read and hold at the meter

Measure and calibrate without a smartphone. A stable-reading indicator helps identify when to record the result; manual HOLD or adjustable automatic HOLD keeps a reading on screen. Temperature units, backlight timing and automatic power-off can be configured from the instrument to suit the task.

Add a connected record

Use ZenTest on your own compatible smartphone for manual or automatic recording and notes. The meter itself is not a measurement-history logger. Keep the powered tester and connected phone nearby for acquisition, and check the app workflow before making it part of a required reporting procedure.

Know exactly what is supplied.

Where this configuration fits.

Pool and spa checks

Follow redox conditions as part of an established water-care procedure. ORP is not a direct chlorine-concentration measurement or a substitute for the other chemistry checks your treatment method requires.

Aquarium and aquatic systems

Compare compatible water samples using consistent handling, temperature and timing. Interpret redox readings in the context of the system rather than treating one millivolt value as a universal water-quality verdict.

General water-treatment samples

Use spot measurements where a portable redox check supports your process. Confirm sample compatibility and cleaning requirements first; the measuring range alone does not establish suitability for every concentrated chemical or industrial stream.

Original reference diagram: 222 mV ORP standard is 227 mV at 20°C and 222 mV at 25°C; other manual reference values shown
Original method diagram based on the ORP60-Z manual. Adjust the standard value manually at its actual temperature; this is not automatic ORP compensation. The complete values are also provided in page text.

Check the standard.
Use its value at temperature.

Rinse the probe with distilled water and dry it before testing. Immerse the sensing end in the sample, move it gently for a few seconds, then let it stand still. Read when the stable icon appears and remains. Keep handling consistent between samples and record temperature alongside the ORP result.

The manual says routine ORP calibration is usually unnecessary. After extended use, check performance in the supplied 222 mV standard and calibrate when a significant error is found. For calibration, half-fill the vial, rinse and dry the probe, enter calibration mode, immerse and stir gently, then wait for the stable icon before adjusting and confirming.

The standard is 222 mV at 25°C, not at every temperature. Manually select its reference value: 242 mV at 10°C, 235 at 15°C, 227 at 20°C, 222 at 25°C, 215 at 30°C, 209 at 35°C, 205 at 38°C or 201 at 40°C. This manual adjustment is not automatic ORP temperature compensation.

Close view of the ORP60-DE platinum pin and adjacent reference contact
Sensing-end detail. Keep the platinum pin and junction clean; the visible housing does not establish material composition or a removable-shield design.

Keep the cap moist.
Condition only as directed.

After testing, rinse away sample residue. Between uses, the exact-model manual recommends one or two drops of tap water in the probe cap, then closing it without overfilling. Do not translate this into continuous KCl immersion, and do not leave the probe soaking for long periods in distilled or deionized water.

Use the supplied 3M KCl for the specified conditioning steps. Slow response calls for a 30-minute soak; a probe left dry for more than a month calls for eight hours. After prolonged purified-water exposure, the manual specifies three to five hours in KCl followed by recalibration. Replace contaminated conditioning solution.

Deposits on the platinum pin or junction can affect response. Follow the manual's cleaning procedure for the contamination involved rather than improvising an abrasive treatment. For probe replacement, remove the cap and retaining ring, unplug the old head, align the ORP60-DE replacement and tighten the ring. Seat the battery cap fully after service.

Use four AAA batteries with all positive ends facing up. Refit the battery cap fully so the waterproof seal is not compromised. Follow the manual, not the erroneous AA wording in some promotional artwork.

Meter controls and illustrative reading. This detail excludes the promotional phone screen, whose ATC label is not an ORP compensation claim.

Read the meter.
Know what is held.

Use the physical controls for standalone measurement and calibration. The stable-reading indicator and HOLD help you read a result; a held display is not an onboard measurement-history logger for later upload.

Keep the connectors and battery compartment dry when changing parts. Follow the exact manual for key sequences, battery orientation and cap sealing. Screen values in photographs are illustrative, not test results or a promise of compatibility with another sensing head.

Choose a connected workflow.
Keep its limits clear.

The tester measures and calibrates without a phone. Connect a compatible smartphone inside ZenTest, rather than treating operating-system PIN pairing as the measurement workflow. Bluetooth, required phone permissions and a nearby powered tester are needed for new connected readings. A smartphone is not included.

ZenTest offers Simple, Dial, Graph and Table views, with manual and timed recording, measurement/calibration records, and tools for notes, photos and location tagging. Available parameters still depend on the exact body and fitted head. Display choices cannot add pH or conductivity to an unsupported model.

Account and cloud functions depend on the compatible app, service and internet connection. Reviewing already saved records while disconnected is not continuous measurement acquisition outside Bluetooth range. Keep an independent copy of important records and check the current app listing for device compatibility before purchase.

Publisher documentation describes data sharing/export, and Apple release history identifies CSV. Native Excel or PDF reports, exact current logging intervals, and identical export behavior on both operating systems are not promised. Neither the meter nor this app overview establishes an immutable audit trail, regulatory compliance, guaranteed background alarms or offsite safety monitoring. Check your recordkeeping procedure before relying on connected data.

Compare a standalone alternative.

Alternative format: Apera ORP60 Redox Pocket Tester Kit (AI315). Compare the exact standalone kit when Bluetooth-connected recordkeeping is not needed. A related family name does not establish the same probe upgrades or app support.

ORP60-Z buyer questions

Does ORP60-Z automatically compensate ORP for temperature?

No. It measures temperature, but ORP automatic temperature compensation is not specified. During calibration you manually adjust the standard value for its actual temperature, following the reference table.

Can I convert this meter to pH?

No supported pH conversion is documented for ORP60-Z. Choose suitable pH hardware separately; app display options do not add a sensor or change this body's supported measurements.

Which replacement probe should I order?

Order ORP60-DE, replacement SKU AI3717-E. Do not substitute ORP60-DA. A similar appearance or membership in the ZenTest family does not establish electrical or measurement compatibility.

Do I need my phone for a reading?

No. Standalone measurement, calibration and HOLD are available. Use a compatible phone for app recording; no onboard measurement-history storage is specified for later upload.

Should the cap stay filled with KCl?

Not as a blanket instruction. Routine capped storage uses one or two drops of tap water. KCl conditioning has separate timings in the manual; avoid prolonged purified-water soaking.

What batteries does it use?

Four AAA batteries are preinstalled. Remove the insulating paper slip before first use. During replacement, follow the manual's orientation diagram with all positive ends facing up.

Is a phone or extra calibration-vial set included?

No phone is included, and the kit contains one calibration vial, not a three-vial accessory set. The 222 mV standard bottle is included; its volume is not specified here.

What warranty applies?

Apera's limited warranty is two years for the instrument and six months for the probe from delivery. Manufacturer terms and exclusions apply, including normal wear, accidental damage and unauthorized repair.
