Hydrofluoric acid etches glass. This membrane resists it.
APERA INSTRUMENTS / LABSEN 831 · 833 · 835 / AI3109 / AI3177 / AI3239
LabSen 831, 833 and 835 measure strong acid samples and solutions containing hydrofluoric acid. Their HF glass membrane resists hydrofluoric corrosion, and a silver ion trap reference extends service life. The 831 (BNC) and 833 (BNC/RCA with temperature) are refillable with a ceramic junction and 3M KCl; the 835 is the non-refillable 8-pin version for PH60 and PH60Z testers fitted with the required 8-pin socket/adapter.
Listed operating envelope: pH 0–11 for 831/833 (conservative manual limits); pH 0–12 for 835; electrode/sample temperature 0–100°C, subject to host limits and the separate HF exposure restrictions. Choose the version that matches your meter’s connection and temperature requirements from the menu above. Apera warrants LabSen electrodes for six months from delivery.

BNC versions connect to the pH input of BNC pH meters. They have no temperature sensor: use a separate temperature probe supported by the host meter (Apera’s MP500 only where the meter supports it), or manual temperature entry where available.
BNC/RCA versions carry a built-in 30 kΩ NTC temperature sensor on an RCA plug for automatic temperature compensation on Apera meters with BNC and RCA inputs, such as the PH700, PH850, PH8500, PH820, PH910 and PH9500. Apera notes they may not work with other brands’ meters because the thermistor might not be compatible.
The 8-pin version is a pH/temperature electrode for Apera meters with an 8-pin socket, including the PH60, PH60-Z, PH400, PH400S and the PC400, PC400S, SX736 and SX751. PH60 and PH60Z require the appropriate installed 8-pin socket/adapter; this cabled electrode does not replace the native tester probe directly. Confirm the adapter separately; its inclusion is not implied.
Temperature figures are electrode/sample ratings, not a complete-system rating. Use a meter and temperature-compensation method rated for the actual sample temperature; keep the meter body, cable connection and adapter within their own confirmed limits. Connector fit alone does not establish temperature or ATC compatibility.
Designed for strong acid samples and resistant to hydrofluoric corrosion. Apera rates the 833 and 835 for about 1,000 HF measurements within its limits.
Keeps the reference free of silver ions that would clog the junction.
HF concentration below 0.1 mol/L (about 2000 ppm), with each measurement under one minute. Sample tests only, not continuous monitoring. Use a PTFE container for HF; the product graphics are not handling instructions.
Operating envelope: pH 0–11 for 831/833 (conservative manual limits); pH 0–12 for 835; electrode/sample temperature 0–100°C, subject to host limits and the separate HF exposure restrictions. Common construction: body lead-free glass.
Junction: 831 ceramic; 833 ceramic; 835 open.
Reference electrolyte: 831 3M KCl; 833 3M KCl; 835 polymer.
The full specification table is in the Product Specifications tab. The 831/833 product pages list pH 0–12, but their exact manuals list 0–11; this page adopts the narrower 0–11 for those two models. Older 831/833 manuals describe broader HF exposure conditions; this page retains the stricter current-page limits for all three. A concentration, time or temperature limit must not be treated as proof that every combination is suitable.
Keep the tip in its cap with 3M KCl storage solution whenever it is not measuring.
Never store a pH electrode in pure, deionized or distilled water.
The 831 and 833 are refillable: keep the fill hole open while measuring and top up the reference electrolyte when the level drops.
The 835 is sealed and needs no refilling.
Apera’s manual advises avoiding strong alkaline solutions and dehydrating media; if exposure is unavoidable, keep immersion short and clean the electrode carefully afterward.
Rinse with distilled or deionized water between samples. For stubborn deposits, use Apera electrode cleaning solution, then recondition and recalibrate.
Apera ships this electrode in these kits: PH850-HF (LabSen 833), PH8500-HF (LabSen 833), PH700-HF (LabSen 833), PH60-HF (LabSen 835), PH60Z-HF (LabSen 835).
Calibrate with fresh pH 7.00, pH 4.00 and pH 10.01 buffers, or pH 1.68 for the acid side.
LabSen 831, 833 and 835 measure strong acid samples and solutions containing hydrofluoric acid.
831 has BNC for pH only; 833 adds an RCA-connected 30 kΩ NTC temperature sensor for a compatible Apera meter; 835 uses Apera’s 8-pin connection. PH60/PH60Z need the appropriate installed 8-pin socket/adapter, not a direct native-probe swap. Check host compatibility and adapter supply before ordering.
The pH signal uses BNC, but the built-in 30 kΩ NTC temperature sensor is not universally compatible. Apera lists meters with matching BNC/RCA inputs; verify the meter’s thermistor support and temperature range before relying on ATC.
The 831 and 833 are refillable; the 835 is sealed.
Keep the tip in its cap with 3M KCl storage solution whenever it is not measuring. Never use pure, deionized or distilled water.
Use only spot/sample measurements below 0.1 mol/L HF (about 2000 ppm), each under one minute, in a PTFE container. Do not leave the electrode in HF for continuous monitoring or storage. Older 831/833 manuals give broader conditions; this page deliberately uses the stricter current-page limits and does not extend those older instructions to 835.
Apera warrants LabSen electrodes against defects in material and workmanship for six months from delivery. Accidental damage, improper use and normal wear are excluded.
Not from the electrode rating alone. The 831/833 are listed here at pH 0–11 and 835 at pH 0–12; all have a 0–100°C electrode rating, but the host meter, ATC and connector have their own limits. PH60’s manual lists ATC at 0–50°C. Confirm the exact PH60Z configuration rather than treating a probe rating as a system rating; HF contact restrictions still apply.
Check the version, connector and catalog number (AI3109 / AI3177 / AI3239) against your meter and samples, then return to the live price and ordering controls.
APERA INSTRUMENTS, LLC warrants LabSen electrodes to be free from defects in material and workmanship for SIX MONTHS from the delivery.
This limited warranty does NOT cover accidental damage, improper use, normal wear and tear, transportation, storage, failure to follow the product instructions, unauthorized maintenance, modification or repair, or external causes beyond Apera's reasonable control.
Model-specific manuals for 831 and 833 only; these are not a universal 835 manual. Each card opens a PDF. The 831/833 PDFs list pH 0–11, adopted here, and describe broader HF contact conditions than the current product pages. Use this listing’s stricter HF limits: below 0.1 mol/L and under one minute, sample tests only, in a PTFE container. Do not transfer older 831/833 HF conditions to 835.
