A plate is only as good as its seal. A film that lifts at the edges lets samples evaporate, a cloudy film scatters qPCR signal, and a film that tears off in pieces leaves adhesive on the wells. MTC Bio sealing films and foils are pre-cut to fit standard plates and made to lay flat, stay put, and come off cleanly.

Pressure-Activated qPCR Film

Standard adhesive films are sticky the moment you peel the backing, so they cling to gloves, fold over on themselves, and pick up dust before they ever reach the plate.

P1001-QPS uses a non-tacky, pressure-activated adhesive. You can place and square it on the plate without it grabbing, then press or roll it down to bond. It is optically clear for real-time PCR and comes sterile or non-sterile. For qPCR in strips, see our PureAmp™ qPCR tubes and strips.

Aluminum Foil for Storage and Sampling

Pierceable aluminum foil gives a tight, opaque seal for storing plates and lets you pierce individual wells with a pipette tip or needle, so you can sample one well without unsealing the rest.

Choose the PureAmp™ P1001-A (2.5 mil, sterile or non-sterile) or the ILP SF035AL (1.4 mil) by the pack of 100 or case of 500.

ILP Films by the Case

ILP, now part of MTC Bio, makes films for high-throughput labs. Each has easy-release backing paper with perforated end tabs you can label or tear off, and each is pre-cut to fit standard plates.

Choose the SF080PE clear polyester film for PCR, the SF070RT ultra-clear polyolefin film for qPCR, or the SF035AL aluminum foil for storage. For pipetting through the seal, the ClearZone™ SF063PP films have 96 adhesive-free zones over the wells, so tips never touch adhesive, and the pre-slit versions let tips pass without piercing. ILP films are rated for storage down to −80 °C.

Tip for a Perfect Seal

Apply the film from one end to the other, then run a sealing paddle or roller firmly over every well and all four edges. Pay extra attention to the corner wells; that is where seals lift first. Plates: 0.1 mL low-profile, 0.2 mL 96-well, 384-well, and SureFrame™ two-component.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these a good alternative to Applied Biosystems™ MicroAmp™ Optical Adhesive Film or Bio-Rad® Microseal® seals?

Yes, for most applications. PureAmp™ and ILP films come in transparent, optically clear, pressure-activated, and pierceable aluminum versions, pre-cut to fit standard plates. Applied Biosystems™, MicroAmp™, Bio-Rad®, and Microseal® are trademarks of their respective owners; Blue Tiger Scientific is not affiliated.

Which film should I use for qPCR?

Use an optically clear film: P1001-Q (standard adhesive), P1001-QPS (non-tacky, pressure-activated), or ILP SF070RT. Transparent PCR films and aluminum foils are not intended for optical reads.

What does pressure-activated mean?

The adhesive on P1001-QPS is not tacky until you apply pressure. You can position the film without it sticking to gloves or folding, then press it down to seal.

Can I pierce aluminum foil?

Yes. P1001-A and SF035AL are pierceable, so you can reach individual wells with a pipette tip or needle without removing the seal.

What is a ClearZone™ or pre-slit film?

ClearZone™ films (SF063PP) have adhesive only between the wells, leaving 96 adhesive-free zones, so pipette tips and probes never pick up adhesive. The pre-slit versions (SF063PP-SLT-CZ and the indexed SF061PP-SLT-PRT) are cut over each well so tips pass through without piercing. For a resealable pierceable seal, see our silicone sealing mats.

Do you have sterile sealing films?

Yes. Every PureAmp™ film type is available sterile; order the catalog number ending in -S. ILP films are non-sterile.

Do you have seals for ELISA, luminescence, or cultures?

Yes. Easy-peel ELISA film, white luminescence and indexed films, long-term storage film, heat-seal foil, and sterile breathable film for cultures are on our assay and storage plate seals page.

Will these fit my plates?

Shipping Policy

Orders for MTC Bio products are fulfilled and shipped directly by MTC Bio using FedEx or UPS, with FedEx Ground as the default shipping method unless otherwise specified.

Expedited shipping options (2-Day, Overnight) are available at an additional cost.
MTC Bio only ships to residential or business addresses within the United States—no PO Boxes.
Orders placed after business hours, weekends, or holidays will be processed the next business day, pending product and carrier availability.
Shipping timelines may vary based on product availability, order size, and carrier logistics.
Blue Tiger Scientific and MTC Bio are not responsible for carrier delays, weather-related disruptions, or unforeseen delivery issues once the order has shipped.

If a return is necessary, customers must start the process with Blue Tiger Scientific before returning any products to MTC Bio.
