Plate Seals for Assays, Cultures, and Storage

Not every plate is headed for a thermal cycler. ELISA plates need a film that peels off cleanly between steps, luminescence reads need an opaque white seal, cultures need to breathe, and freezer plates need a seal that stays put for months.

Pick the seal by what the plate is for in the menu: easy-peel ELISA film, white luminescence film, indexed films with printed well labels, long-term storage film, heat-seal aluminum foil, or breathable film for cultures. Every seal is pre-cut for standard SBS plates.

MTC Bio ILP SF041RA-9-TC-S sterile breathable sealing film for cell culture plates

Breathable Film for Cultures

A sealed culture plate still needs oxygen. The SF041RA film is a sterile, non-woven rayon with acrylic adhesive that lets gases pass through while keeping out airborne contaminants.

Use it on 96-well 2 mL deep-well plates or 24- and 48-well deep-well plates for bacterial and yeast cultures on a shaker.

MTC Bio ILP HSF50-9-ALM aluminum heat-seal foil for microplates

Heat-Seal Foil for Storage

Heat-seal foil bonds to the plate rim under a plate heat sealer, giving a durable seal for long-term and −80 °C storage.

HSF50 is 0.8 mil aluminum with a heat-activated adhesive, sterile or non-sterile, 500 per case. You need a plate heat sealer to apply it; set temperature and time for your sealer and plate type.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these a good alternative to Thermo Scientific™ Nunc™ sealing tapes and breathable films?

Yes, for most applications. They include easy-peel ELISA film, white luminescence film, indexed films, long-term storage film, heat-seal foil, and sterile breathable film, all pre-cut for standard plates. Thermo Scientific™ and Nunc™ are trademarks of their respective owners; Blue Tiger Scientific is not affiliated.

Which seal should I use for ELISA?

P1001-E. Its low-adhesive film seals during incubations and peels off cleanly between wash steps. Choose P1001-E-S for sterile work.

Why use a white film?

A white film reflects light back toward the detector and helps keep signal from reaching neighboring wells, which benefits luminescence reads.

Do I need special equipment for the heat-seal foil?

Yes. HSF50 foil uses a heat-activated adhesive and must be applied with a plate heat sealer.

Can cultures breathe under the breathable film?

Yes. SF041RA is a sterile, non-woven rayon film that allows gas exchange while keeping contaminants out.

Are these for PCR?

No. For thermal cycling, use our PCR and qPCR sealing films and foils.
