A 96-well, 2 mL deep-well plate is the workhorse of sample prep: bacterial cultures, nucleic acid extraction, compound storage, and liquid handling all run through it. The wrong plate, though, means it will not sit in your robot, a well that will not drain, or a mat that will not seal.

Two Lines, One Format

MTC Bio makes 2 mL deep-well plates under two lines. OptiWell™ is MTC Bio's own line, with printed black alphanumerics and sterile versions of every plate. ILP, now part of MTC Bio, makes plates of the same format that are often priced lower per case.

Because many labs have a specific catalog number written into an SOP or purchase order, we carry both. Select your plate, then switch between versions in the second menu to see each price and catalog number before you add to cart.

Round Wells Sized for Your Deck

Round-well 2.0 mL plates come in deck-specific versions. D3096-35 is built for Nunc™-format workflows and D3096-37 for Hamilton® systems, both 44.3 mm tall. The ILP DP2M-RD-96 is a 45.3 mm round-well plate for general use.

Always confirm plate height and footprint against your instrument or deck layout before switching plate brands.

Tip for Cultures in Deep-Well Plates

Fill wells to no more than about half their volume for shaking cultures, and cover with a breathable seal or a loosely seated mat so cells get oxygen. For storage, seal with a silicone mat or an adhesive film; see our plate sealing films and foils.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these a good alternative to Corning® Axygen® or Thermo Scientific™ Nunc™ 2 mL deep-well plates?

Yes, for most applications. They are 96-well, 2 mL-class deep-well plates in square and round wells, U- and V-bottom, sterile or non-sterile, with a standard ANSI/SLAS footprint. Confirm height and footprint for automated systems before switching. Corning®, Axygen®, Thermo Scientific™, Nunc™, and Hamilton® are trademarks of their respective owners; Blue Tiger Scientific is not affiliated.

What is the difference between OptiWell™ and ILP?

Both are MTC Bio lines. OptiWell™ plates have black printed alphanumerics and come sterile in every format. ILP plates, from Innovative Laboratory Products (now part of MTC Bio), cover the same formats and are often lower in price. Choose the one that matches your protocol or budget.

How do I choose between the plates?

Start with well shape (square for maximum volume and mixing, round for pipetting and round-well mats), then bottom (U for mixing, V for full recovery of small volumes), then height to match your instrument.

Why do some rated volumes differ slightly?

Manufacturers rate capacity differently. For example, DP21US-9 is rated 2.0 mL and D3096-41 is rated 2.2 mL at the same 41.6 mm height. Use the height and well shape to match your equipment.

Can I centrifuge these plates?

Yes. OptiWell™ deep-well plates are rated up to 4,000 × g.

Are they autoclavable?

Yes. OptiWell™ plates are autoclavable, and sterile versions are gamma-irradiated per ISO 13485.

    Shipping Policy

    Orders for MTC Bio products are fulfilled and shipped directly by MTC Bio using FedEx or UPS, with FedEx Ground as the default shipping method unless otherwise specified.

    • Expedited shipping options (2-Day, Overnight) are available at an additional cost.
    • MTC Bio only ships to residential or business addresses within the United States—no PO Boxes.
    • Orders placed after business hours, weekends, or holidays will be processed the next business day, pending product and carrier availability.
    • Shipping timelines may vary based on product availability, order size, and carrier logistics.
    • Blue Tiger Scientific and MTC Bio are not responsible for carrier delays, weather-related disruptions, or unforeseen delivery issues once the order has shipped.

    Return Policy

    If a return is necessary, customers must start the process with Blue Tiger Scientific before returning any products to MTC Bio.

    • Customers must obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number from Blue Tiger Scientific before returning any item.
