In qPCR, the plastic is part of the optics. A cap that scatters light or a tube that lets signal leak out the sides costs you sensitivity and pushes your Ct values around. MTC Bio PureAmp™ qPCR strips pair ultra-thin, uniform tube walls with optically clear flat cap strips, so excitation gets in and fluorescence gets to the detector.

Clear, White, or Frosted?
White and frosted tubes bounce emitted light back up toward a top-reading detector instead of letting it escape through the tube wall. MTC Bio offers both for enhanced signal in qPCR.
Clear tubes are the right choice when your instrument reads through the side of the tube, or when you want to see the reaction volume at a glance. Whichever you pick, stay consistent within a study so the tube is not a variable.
ILP Optical Single Tubes by the Case
PC201Q-F-N is a 0.2 mL single tube with an attached, optically clear flat cap. It comes from ILP, now part of MTC Bio, in cases of 10,000 (10 packs of 1,000) in resealable bags.

Tip for Consistent Ct Values
Never write on optical caps; mark the tube side or the strip end tab instead, since ink on the cap blocks light. Seal each cap strip fully and spin the strips briefly before the run to clear bubbles and pull droplets off the walls. Store finished reactions in our cardboard PCR freezer boxes.

Are PureAmp™ qPCR strips a good alternative to Applied Biosystems™ MicroAmp™ or Bio-Rad® qPCR tubes?
Yes, for most applications. PureAmp™ qPCR strips have optically clear flat cap strips, ultra-thin walls, and come in 0.1 mL low-profile or 0.2 mL formats with clear, white, or frosted tubes. Should I use 0.1 mL or 0.2 mL tubes?
Match the block in your instrument. Fast or low-profile blocks need 0.1 mL tubes (P3801 series); standard blocks take 0.2 mL tubes (P3802 series and PC201Q-F-N). Using the wrong height can leave tubes poorly seated or crushed by the heated lid.
Why choose white tubes?
White tubes reflect fluorescence up toward a top-reading detector, which can improve signal. Clear tubes are best for instruments that read through the side of the tube.
Can I write on the caps?
No. Mark the side of the tube or the end tab of the strip. Ink on an optical cap blocks light and lowers the signal from that well.
Are these tubes sterile?
No. They are non-sterile and certified free of RNase, DNase, DNA, and PCR inhibitors (PureAmp™) or RNase, DNase, and pyrogens (ILP).
Do the strips include caps?
Yes. P3801 and P3802 strips come with separate optically clear flat cap strips. PC201Q-F-N tubes have an attached optical flat cap.
