EC60-DE is explicitly named for ZenTest EC60-Z.

APERA INSTRUMENTS / EC60-Z / AI3718
Follow nutrient strength, dilution and changes in dissolved ionic content with a pocket tester built around conductivity. EC60-Z combines the replaceable EC60-DE conductivity/temperature head with on-meter measurement and calibration, plus Bluetooth connectivity for a compatible phone when your workflow calls for ZenTest.
Choose this kit when conductivity is the primary measurement. TDS, salinity and resistivity are related readings derived from EC, not separate chemical analyses. EC60-Z does not measure pH or ORP and is not offered here as a platform for those upgrades.
Each card opens that kit page, not an upgrade for the current meter. Match the supplied head and supported measurements. Phones and additional probes are not included unless the exact kit contents say so.
AI3711
General aqueous pH
PH60-DE glass-bulb probe; optional ORP60-DA upgrade.
AI3715
Wetted flat surfaces
PH60F-DE flat membrane; defined small-volume method.
AI3713
Moist soft-solid samples
PH60S-DE spear glass; sacrificial sample method.
AI3717
Dedicated ORP
ORP60-DE head; not a pH-convertible body.
AI3718
Conductivity and conversions
EC60-DE head; no pH or supported ORP upgrade.
AI3719
pH plus conductivity
PC60-DE combo head; ORP60-DA sold separately.
AI3803
Combo plus separate ORP head
PC60-Z meter with PC60-DE and separate ORP60-DA.
The platinum-black conductivity sensor measures the solution’s electrical conductance, while the built-in temperature sensor supports compensation. EC is the useful starting point when comparing results across instruments. Its stated accuracy is ±1% of full scale, not ±1% of each reading.
The adjustable TDS factor lets you match an established reporting convention. At 1000 µS/cm, the factory factor of 0.71 gives 710 ppm; a factor of 0.50 gives 500 ppm. Those different numbers can describe the same conductivity, so record the factor alongside the result.
The EC60-DE head is replaceable without replacing the entire tester. The meter’s display and buttons handle everyday tests, calibration and hold functions independently of a phone. A carrying case keeps the instrument and calibration supplies together between sampling locations.
Compare feed solution and dilution water within the measurement range. Use conductivity to follow overall ionic strength rather than expecting a reading to identify individual nutrients, their ratios or a specific deficiency.
Track changes between source water, process water and rinses using consistent sample handling. EC-derived TDS is an estimate, not a direct count of all dissolved substances or a drinking-water safety assessment.
Use the salinity display for compatible solutions up to 10.00 ppt. That ceiling is below normal seawater salinity, so this is not the choice for direct marine-aquarium or ordinary seawater salinity testing.
Prepare clean portions of the supplied standards. In conductivity mode, begin with 1413 µS/cm; use 12.88 mS/cm when working above 2 mS/cm or when a check shows the need. The meter also recognizes 84 µS/cm for low-range calibration, but that standard is purchased separately. Do not pour used portions back into the stock bottle.
Remove the cap, rinse the probe and shake off excess water. Fully immerse the sensing area, stir briefly to release trapped bubbles, then hold still and wait for the stable-reading icon. Rinse between standards and samples. Use a clean vessel with enough sample to cover the sensors rather than trying to measure a shallow film.
Check the units and compensation settings before comparing results. The EC reference temperature defaults to 25 °C and the coefficient to 2.00%/°C; both are adjustable. TDS, salinity and resistivity follow EC calibration. There is no separate TDS calibration or invented zero-EC calibration step to perform.
After each measurement, rinse with distilled or deionized water to remove residue. The EC60-DE has conductivity rods rather than a pH glass bulb. Do not transfer a combo pH probe’s KCl conditioning or storage directions to this sensor simply because the housings look similar.
For a sensor that has been unused, the manual gives conditioning options of 5 to 10 minutes in 12.88 mS/cm standard or 1 to 2 hours in tap water before use. These are preparation steps, not an instruction to leave the probe immersed indefinitely. Rinse before calibration or the next sample.
If the black rods become stained, gently clean them with a soft brush in warm water containing detergent or alcohol, following the manual. For an unexpected zero or unstable reading, first check immersion, bubbles, cleanliness, damage and fresh standard. Recondition and recalibrate before treating the result as a sample change.
Use the physical controls for standalone measurement and calibration. The stable-reading indicator and HOLD help you read a result; a held display is not an onboard measurement-history logger for later upload.
Keep the connectors and battery compartment dry when changing parts. Follow the exact manual for key sequences, battery orientation and cap sealing. Screen values in photographs are illustrative, not test results or a promise of compatibility with another sensing head.
The tester measures and calibrates without a phone. Connect a compatible smartphone inside ZenTest, rather than treating operating-system PIN pairing as the measurement workflow. Bluetooth, required phone permissions and a nearby powered tester are needed for new connected readings. A smartphone is not included.
ZenTest offers Simple, Dial, Graph and Table views, with manual and timed recording, measurement/calibration records, and tools for notes, photos and location tagging. Available parameters still depend on the exact body and fitted head. Display choices cannot add pH or conductivity to an unsupported model.
Account and cloud functions depend on the compatible app, service and internet connection. Reviewing already saved records while disconnected is not continuous measurement acquisition outside Bluetooth range. Keep an independent copy of important records and check the current app listing for device compatibility before purchase.
Publisher documentation describes data sharing/export, and Apple release history identifies CSV. Native Excel or PDF reports, exact current logging intervals, and identical export behavior on both operating systems are not promised. Neither the meter nor this app overview establishes an immutable audit trail, regulatory compliance, guaranteed background alarms or offsite safety monitoring. Check your recordkeeping procedure before relying on connected data.
Alternative format: Apera EC60 Conductivity/TDS/Salinity Tester Kit (AI314). Compare the exact standalone kit when Bluetooth-connected recordkeeping is not needed. A related family name does not establish the same probe upgrades or app support.
No supported pH or ORP upgrade is claimed for EC60-Z. Its documented replacement is EC60-DE. Choose a suitable combo configuration if those measurements are part of your work.
No. Both are calculated from conductivity. The TDS factor is adjustable, while the salinity conversion uses a fixed factor. Neither mode identifies the dissolved ions or proves water safety.
The kit supplies 1413 µS/cm and 12.88 mS/cm conductivity standards. The supported 84 µS/cm standard is not included. Choose additional standards to suit the range you actually measure.
First compare EC, then check each meter’s TDS factor, ppm versus ppt units and temperature-compensation settings. A conversion mismatch can explain different ppm without either instrument being faulty.
No. Measurement, calibration and hold are available on the meter. ZenTest is the separate phone-connected route for app functions; the meter does not provide an internal measurement-history logger.
Not for direct normal-seawater salinity testing. Its salinity limit is 10.00 ppt and conductivity limit is 20.00 mS/cm. Check both limits against the intended sample before choosing the tester.
Four AAA batteries are supplied. Follow the manual’s installation directions and keep the battery compartment dry. The correct battery specification is AAA, not AA.
The manufacturer’s formal warranty is two years for the instrument and six months for the probe from delivery, subject to its terms. Damage, misuse and normal wear are not a promise of free replacement.
