APERA INSTRUMENTS / EC800 / AI522

Routine bench conductivity.
Keep the measurement and its context together.

EC800 pairs a laboratory conductivity meter with the 2301T-F plastic-body conductivity/temperature electrode. Measure EC and temperature, select TDS, salinity or resistivity displays, and save readings for later review. The supplied K=1 probe suits regular-range aqueous measurements without adding a separate temperature sensor.

Choose EC800 for a dedicated conductivity station with straightforward calibration, a flexible electrode holder and 500-record memory. Its meter range is 0 to 200 mS/cm, not the 2000 mS/cm range of EC820. This is not a pH or multiparameter pH kit.

Each card opens that model page. Match the supplied electrode and documented sample method. Different configurations are not interchangeable upgrades, and optional accessories are not supplied unless the exact kit contents say so.

Choose the electrode for the sample.

One probe, two measured inputs

The 2301T-F combines a platinum-black conductivity sensor with a 30 kΩ temperature sensor inside a POM body. BNC and RCA connectors carry the two signals. Its published range extends to 200 mS/cm, but the meter manual recommends selecting a different cell constant for demanding low- or high-conductivity work.

A display that supports repeatable work

A backlit LCD shows the selected conductivity-related result and temperature together. The stable-reading symbol indicates when the reading has settled; calibration icons identify recognized standards. These indicators help the operator follow a procedure but cannot detect every contaminated sample, unsuitable compensation setting or damaged sensor.

Settings matched to the sample

Set a reference temperature from 15 to 30°C and a compensation coefficient from 0.00 to 9.99%/°C. The defaults are 25°C and 2.00%/°C. TDS conversion is adjustable from 0.40 to 1.00. Record the selected settings when comparing results across operators or instruments.

Match the sample and preparation method.

Routine water and process checks

Build a repeatable bench method for compatible water samples, rinse-water comparisons or aqueous process preparations. Keep containers and sample temperature consistent. Conductivity is an aggregate response to dissolved ions, not identification of a particular contaminant or proof of water safety.

Teaching and laboratory comparisons

The visible calibration indicators, replaceable probe and stored readings suit demonstrations of ionic concentration and temperature effects. Use the direct EC result when teaching instrument response; TDS and salinity are related displays rather than independent chemical analyses.

Low- and high-range method planning

For very low conductivity, choose a suitable low-constant electrode and contamination-controlled technique. The manual recommends a flow cell below 1 µS/cm and K=10 above 100 mS/cm. Optional electrodes and flow equipment are not supplied with this regular-range kit.

Original feature-row illustration of optional conductivity electrodes
Original feature-row panel shows optional low- and high-range electrodes. These additional probes are not included.

Calibrate from low to high.
Let both signals settle.

Connect the conductivity BNC plug to Cond and the RCA plug to the temperature input. Remove the storage cap, rinse the probe and confirm the K=1 setting. Hold the sensing end in the solution without touching the vessel. Briefly stir to release trapped bubbles, then allow the reading to stabilize.

Standard mode recognizes 84 µS/cm, 1413 µS/cm, 12.88 mS/cm and 111.8 mS/cm, with one to four calibration points. Only the first three standards are supplied. Work from lower to higher conductivity with fresh portions and rinse between them. EC800's current manual does not document EC820's customized-standard mode.

For a new electrode, the probe instructions call for two to three calibration points; the meter manual recommends three or four after a new probe or factory reset. Three supplied standards provide a practical common starting point, subject to the measurement method. Check a suitable standard before important work and investigate drift rather than relying on the reminder alone.

Rinse gently.
Store the conductivity cap in clean water.

Rinse the conductivity sensor with distilled or deionized water before and after each sample and calibration. Blot excess water gently without rubbing the sensing surface. If appropriate, rinse once more with a small portion of the next sample to reduce dilution. Never return used standard to its original bottle.

Keep the protective storage cap filled with clean distilled or deionized water. Replace contaminated water and rinse the cap before closing it. This is conductivity-probe care, not the KCl storage routine used for many pH electrodes. Keep the BNC and RCA plugs dry; an IP54 meter enclosure is splash-resistant, not immersion-proof.

For organic residue, the 2301T-F instructions describe warm detergent water and alcohol cleaning with a soft brush; for calcium or magnesium deposits, they specify the manufacturer’s specified cleaning solution (described as “10% lemon acid” in the manual). Use the probe's cleaning instructions, rinse thoroughly and recalibrate afterward. Do not scrape or polish the platinum-black surface.

Read the display. Check the measurement mode.

Use the physical controls for measurement, calibration and the documented record functions. Check units, temperature, calibration indicators and the selected parameter before assigning a result to a sample. Screen values in photographs are illustrative, not sample results. The model-specific record and output workflow is explained below.

Use calibration solutions and settings appropriate to the parameter and fitted electrode. Temperature compensation does not make different sample temperatures, preparation methods or chemistry equivalent. Follow the model-specific meter and electrode instructions before extending the method to a new sample.

500 stored records.
A separate step to export.

EC800 stores 500 groups, not the 1000 groups assigned to PC800 in the shared manual. Records include record number, date, time, measurement, unit and temperature. Manual storage and timed logging are available. Auto-lock freezes a displayed result; it is not the same action as saving a record.

The manual describes USB transfer using legacy Windows PC-Link software and states that this software does not work on Mac. Confirm current operating-system and driver support before making export part of a purchasing requirement. No software has been installed or hardware-tested for this listing, and native mobile compatibility is not promised.

Download records before clearing memory and retain sample identities in your laboratory worksheet. The manufacturer's data-management terminology does not by itself establish an audit trail or regulatory compliance. A USB interface is not evidence of direct-printer support or compatibility with unrelated software platforms.

Alternative format: Apera EC950 Benchtop Conductivity Meter Kit with 2401T-F and TestBench. The linked TestBench model has a different bench arrangement, record workflow and kit specification. Compare the exact supplied electrode, accessories and data features rather than assuming similar model names mean identical hardware or software.

EC800 buyer questions

Is this the glass-electrode EC800 configuration?

No. The current EC800 page and its manual specify 2301T-F, a POM plastic-body K=1 electrode. The glass 2401T-F appears as a compatible accessory, not as the supplied EC800 probe.

Does the meter reach 2000 mS/cm?

No. EC800 is specified to 200 mS/cm. Its manual lists five conductivity ranges ending at 199.9 mS/cm. The 2000 mS/cm instrument specification belongs to EC820, not this model.

What does the accuracy specification mean?

The manual states ±1.0% full scale plus one digit. It is not ±1% of every reading. Actual method uncertainty also depends on the active range, calibration, temperature correction, probe and sample handling.

Are all four calibration bottles included?

No. The kit contains 50 mL each of 84 µS/cm, 1413 µS/cm and 12.88 mS/cm. The meter also recognizes 111.8 mS/cm, but that fourth standard is a separate purchase.

Can I compare readings at different temperatures?

Only with appropriate settings and a controlled method. Conductivity compensation operates from 0 to 50°C, while the meter temperature display spans 0 to 100°C. The broader display range does not extend the compensation interval.

What are the TDS, salinity and resistivity ranges?

The published ranges are 0 to 100 g/L TDS, 0 to 100 ppt salinity and 0 to 100 MΩ·cm resistivity. Resistivity uses resistance multiplied by length, not MΩ/cm. Probe and method suitability still limit useful measurements.

How should I store the electrode?

Keep its cap filled with clean distilled or deionized water. Rinse away sample residue first, replace contaminated water and keep electrical connectors dry. Do not substitute a pH-electrode KCl storage routine.

What warranty applies?

The current US manual provides a three-year limited instrument warranty and six months for the probe from delivery. Coverage concerns qualifying defects and excludes misuse, accidental damage, normal wear, improper storage and other stated causes.
