APERA INSTRUMENTS / EC820 / AI532
EC820 combines a precision conductivity meter with the 2401T-F glass-body conductivity/temperature electrode. Its stated instrument accuracy is ±0.5% full scale plus one digit. The kit supports routine EC, TDS, salinity and resistivity work with temperature measurement, standard calibration and 500-record storage.
Choose EC820 when the glass sensing-cell design, tighter meter specification or customized calibration mode matters. Separate the meter from the supplied probe when planning range: the instrument extends to 2000 mS/cm, but the included K=1 2401T-F is rated to 200 mS/cm.
Each card opens that model page. Match the supplied electrode and documented sample method. Different configurations are not interchangeable upgrades, and optional accessories are not supplied unless the exact kit contents say so.

The 2401T-F uses a platinum sensing element within a glass cavity and includes a temperature sensor. The original close-up shows the exposed internal structure that needs clean solution contact and freedom from trapped bubbles. Glass construction is useful for compatible laboratory liquids, not proof of resistance to every chemical.
EC820 offers six conductivity ranges up to a nominal 2000 mS/cm. The glass probe has its own 200 mS/cm rating, and the meter manual recommends K=10 above 100 mS/cm. Do not buy this kit on the assumption that its supplied electrode covers the full instrument range.
Use automatic recognition for the four defined standards, or select customized calibration for a suitable nonstandard solution. Custom mode is one-point only and does not automatically recognize the standard. The manual requires calibration and measurement at the same temperature in that mode.
For compatible aqueous preparations, compare results using consistent vessel geometry, temperature conditions and compensation settings. The glass probe and flexible holder make the sensing region easy to inspect between samples. Stated instrument accuracy is not a guarantee of total sample-method uncertainty.
Customized calibration can serve a procedure that requires a value outside the automatic standard set. Establish the standard value and temperature independently before entering it. This is not unlimited multi-point user calibration, and the instrument cannot validate the preparation of a custom solution.
A different electrode may be needed for very low conductivity or concentrated samples. The manual recommends a low-constant cell for low-range work and a flow cell below 1 µS/cm. Keep specialized electrodes and accessories distinct from the contents of this K=1 kit.
Install the holder and connect the 2401T-F BNC plug to Cond and its RCA plug to temperature. Set K=1, remove the storage cap and rinse the sensing cavity. Briefly stir the immersed probe to remove bubbles, then stop and allow both conductivity and temperature to settle. Avoid striking the glass against the vessel.
Automatic standard mode recognizes 84 µS/cm, 1413 µS/cm, 12.88 mS/cm and 111.8 mS/cm. The kit supplies 50 mL bottles of the first three only. Calibrate from low to high conductivity to reduce carryover. Use fresh portions and verify a relevant standard before an important sample series.
The electrode instructions call for two to three points after installation, while the meter manual recommends three or four for a new probe or reset. Three supplied standards provide a common starting point subject to the method. In custom mode, use one known value and maintain the same temperature for calibration and samples; do not treat it as four-point user-defined calibration.
Rinse the conductivity sensor with distilled or deionized water before and after each sample and calibration. Blot excess water gently without rubbing the sensing surface. If appropriate, rinse once more with a small portion of the next sample to reduce dilution. Never return used standard to its original bottle.
Keep the protective storage cap filled with clean distilled or deionized water. Replace contaminated water and rinse the cap before closing it. This is conductivity-probe care, not the KCl storage routine used for many pH electrodes. Keep the BNC and RCA plugs dry; an IP54 meter enclosure is splash-resistant, not immersion-proof.
The 2401T-F manual specifies warm detergent water for organic residue and the manufacturer’s specified cleaning solution (described as “10% lemon acid” in the manual) for calcium or magnesium deposits. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and check calibration before reuse. Never rub the sensing surface. The probe operating rating of 0 to 80°C does not expand the meter's 0 to 50°C conductivity-compensation interval.
Use the physical controls for measurement, calibration and the documented record functions. Check units, temperature, calibration indicators and the selected parameter before assigning a result to a sample. Screen values in photographs are illustrative, not sample results. The model-specific record and output workflow is explained below.
Use calibration solutions and settings appropriate to the parameter and fitted electrode. Temperature compensation does not make different sample temperatures, preparation methods or chemistry equivalent. Follow the model-specific meter and electrode instructions before extending the method to a new sample.
EC820 stores 500 groups containing record number, date, time, measurement, unit and temperature. The shared manual assigns 1000 groups to PC820, not EC820. Manual saving and timed logging are available; display auto-lock is a separate function and does not replace the save operation.
The supplied-media workflow in the manual uses Windows PC-Link and explicitly excludes Mac for that legacy program. The current EC820 product page also links a browser-based PC-Link option. Browser, operating-system and hardware support must be confirmed for the intended computer; no installation or meter-connected compatibility test has been performed here.
Use downloaded data with your own sample identifiers, standard details and acceptance rules. The manufacturer's data-management description does not establish regulated compliance, an audit trail or printer compatibility. This kit is not supplied with a pH electrode, separate MP500 temperature probe or another model's software package.
Alternative format: Apera EC9500 Benchtop Conductivity Meter Kit with 2401T-F and TestBench. The linked TestBench model has a different bench arrangement, record workflow and kit specification. Compare the exact supplied electrode, accessories and data features rather than assuming similar model names mean identical hardware or software.
The supplied electrode is 2401T-F, catalog AI1309, with a glass body, K=1 constant and BNC/RCA connectors. Its integrated temperature sensor eliminates the need for a separate temperature probe for conductivity work.
No. That is the instrument range. The exact 2401T-F instructions rate the electrode to 200 mS/cm, and the meter manual recommends K=10 above 100 mS/cm. Select the appropriate probe and method for concentrated samples.
EC820 specifies ±0.5% FS ±1 digit rather than ±1.0% FS ±1 digit, supplies a glass 2401T-F rather than the plastic 2301T-F, and documents customized calibration. Both conductivity-only models store 500 groups.
No. Standard mode recognizes four named values. Customized mode accepts a single user-entered calibration value and requires calibration and measurement at the same temperature; it does not automatically recognize that solution.
Conductivity compensation is 0 to 50°C. The manual specifies a 0 to 100°C meter temperature range, while the current page says -10 to 110°C. Confirm the delivered revision before relying on the wider display range; probe operation is rated 0 to 80°C.
No. The included standards are 84 µS/cm, 1413 µS/cm and 12.88 mS/cm, 50 mL each. The fourth recognized standard and any high-range electrode must be obtained separately.
Do not assume so. Legacy PC-Link is described as Windows-only. A current manufacturer browser option is linked for EC820, but a link is not confirmation of every operating system, browser or mobile device. Confirm support before purchase.
Store the clean conductivity tip in distilled or deionized water, not pH-electrode KCl solution. The US manual provides three years of limited instrument coverage and six months for the probe from delivery, subject to its exclusions.
