APERA INSTRUMENTS / PC800 / AI523
PC800 brings pH and conductivity testing into one benchtop instrument without combining their sensing chemistry. The current AI523 kit supplies a 201T-F pH/temperature electrode and a separate 2301T-F conductivity/temperature electrode, plus a flexible holder and six calibration solutions.
Choose PC800 for routine aqueous measurements where 0.01 pH resolution, conductivity up to 200 mS/cm and timestamped storage fit the method. It measures either pH or conductivity with temperature, not both primary parameters simultaneously. The supplied probes, rather than the broadest meter display range, determine sample suitability. The supplied K=1 probe is rated to 200 mS/cm, but the meter manual recommends K=10 for measurements above 100 mS/cm. Choose the cell and calibration for the method; an optional high-range electrode is not included.
Each card opens that model page. Match the supplied electrode and documented sample method. Different configurations are not interchangeable upgrades, and optional accessories are not supplied unless the exact kit contents say so.

The non-refillable 201T-F uses a lithium-glass pH membrane, gel KCl reference and integrated temperature sensor. The 2301T-F uses a K=1 platinum-black conductivity cell in a POM body and its own temperature sensor. Both have BNC/RCA connections. Neither is a single pH-plus-conductivity probe; use the correct sensor and temperature connection for the active mode. The supplied K=1 probe is rated to 200 mS/cm, but the meter manual recommends K=10 for measurements above 100 mS/cm. Choose the cell and calibration for the method; an optional high-range electrode is not included.
The backlit LCD shows the selected primary measurement and temperature, with stability, calibration and storage indicators. Optional HOLD locks a reading after stabilization; M+ saves it. A slope display between pH calibration points helps identify deterioration. These aids do not replace clean standards, appropriate immersion or an independent check of calibration performance.
Conductivity, TDS, salinity and resistivity share the conductivity electrode. TDS is calculated using a selectable factor of 0.40 to 1.00, default 0.71, rather than measured as a separate chemical analysis. Specify the factor and temperature reference in the procedure before comparing results across instruments.
Use for compatible aqueous samples, buffer preparation and repeatable checks where the supplied sensors match the matrix. The 201T-F is not the preferred general answer for ultrapure water, strong solvents or prolonged hot-sample testing.
Separate pH and conductivity modes make the difference between acidity and ionic conduction explicit. Run the two measurements sequentially and link them with a sample identifier; the meter does not generate a simultaneous combined pH/EC sample row.
Suitable workflows include collected water samples and compatible process solutions within probe limits. Establish sampling, rinsing and acceptance criteria. A conductivity-derived TDS result does not identify individual ions or establish drinking-water safety.
Connect the pH electrode to pH/mV and the conductivity electrode to COND. The temperature RCA input is shared, so connect the temperature lead belonging to the probe being used. Place the relevant sensing end and temperature sensor in the same representative sample. The supplied holder positions electrodes; it does not stir or heat the sample.
PC800 supports one to three pH calibration points with USA or NIST recognition, and one to four conductivity points. Recognizing several buffer values does not mean five-point pH calibration. The 201T-F instructions call for three-point calibration with a newly connected probe. Use fresh standards, rinse between solutions and calibrate conductivity from low to high concentration.
pH automatic compensation corrects electrode response to temperature, not the actual temperature dependence of sample chemistry. Conductivity compensation instead refers results to a chosen temperature, adjustable from 15 to 30°C, default 25°C. Its coefficient is adjustable from 0.00 to 9.99%/°C, default 2.00%/°C; zero turns compensation off. Choose a coefficient appropriate to the solution rather than assuming the default is universally correct.
Keep the 201T-F sensing tip in clean Apera 3M KCl storage solution, AI1107, when idle. Its gel reference is sealed and is not refilled. Rinse with distilled or deionized water before and after measurement, but never use pure water for long-term pH-electrode storage. Do not rub the glass membrane.
The 2301T-F has a different requirement: its storage cap contains distilled or deionized water. Replace that water if contaminated, rinse the cell between samples and gently release trapped bubbles before reading. Keep both electrical connectors clean and dry. The IP54 meter is splash-resistant, not an immersion instrument.
The 201T-F product page specifies 0 to 13 pH and 0 to 60°C, while its linked manual lists 0 to 14 pH and 0 to 80°C. Use the narrower published limits until the supplied revision is confirmed. Its manual also cautions against prolonged testing above 50°C, frequent extreme-pH exposure and low-ionic-strength water.
Use the physical controls for measurement, calibration and the documented record functions. Check units, temperature, calibration indicators and the selected parameter before assigning a result to a sample. Screen values in photographs are illustrative, not sample results. The model-specific record and output workflow is explained below.
Use calibration solutions and settings appropriate to the parameter and fitted electrode. Temperature compensation does not make different sample temperatures, preparation methods or chemistry equivalent. Follow the model-specific meter and electrode instructions before extending the method to a new sample.
The model-specific 800-series manual assigns PC800 1000 stored records; its 500-record figure applies to the single-parameter PH800 and EC800. A legacy PC800 gallery graphic still says 500, so the manual is the basis here. Records contain record number, date, time, measurement, unit and temperature. Do not interpret capacity as 1000 simultaneous multi-parameter sample bundles.
Manual M+ storage and automatic interval storage are available. Legacy PC-Link sorts downloaded readings by pH, mV and conductivity. During connected real-time logging, readings go to the computer rather than also being saved in the meter. Export and verify records before clearing memory; retain sample identifiers and calibration checks in your laboratory record.
The legacy manual describes Windows PC-Link, not Mac software. Current kit pages additionally link a newer Web PC-Link service. These are distinct workflows: confirm the meter revision, USB driver and browser support before depending on the newer route. The web application's own compatibility message names Chrome, Edge and Opera, while the kit page also names Firefox. Universal browser or Mac operation is not established here. No software installation or live instrument connection was tested. USB export and timestamped records are useful documentation tools, not a claim of GLP compliance, an audit trail or validated LIMS integration.
Alternative format: Apera PC950 Benchtop pH and Conductivity Meter Kit with 606 TestBench. The linked TestBench model has a different bench arrangement, record workflow and kit specification. Compare the exact supplied electrode, accessories and data features rather than assuming similar model names mean identical hardware or software.
The current PC800 AI523 list names 201T-F pH/temperature and 2301T-F conductivity/temperature electrodes. LabSen 211, MP500 and 2401T-F belong to the PC820 configuration, not this standard PC800 kit.
No. The exact manual explicitly excludes simultaneous pH and conductivity measurement. The selected primary mode is displayed with temperature; switch modes and temperature leads for the second measurement.
The meter spans -2.00 to 19.99 pH, with 0.01 or 0.1 pH resolution and ±0.01 pH ±1 digit accuracy. Conductivity spans 0 to 200 mS/cm; the manual states ±1.0% full scale ±1 digit, while the page omits the digit term. Probe limits are narrower.
No. The six supplied solutions are pH 4.00, 7.00, 10.01 and conductivity 84 µS/cm, 1413 µS/cm, 12.88 mS/cm. The manual specifies 50 mL each. Recognized 111.8 mS/cm is not listed as included.
For PC800, the exact manual and current specification say 1000 records. The old 500-set image conflicts. Each record follows the active measurement mode; the meter does not acquire a combined pH/EC row.
Yes, the ±1999 mV mode supports an appropriate separately purchased ORP electrode. Resolution is 1 mV and meter accuracy is ±0.1% full scale ±1 digit. An ORP electrode is not supplied.
The kit includes a 9 V adapter, specified for 120 V AC, 60 Hz input and 9 V DC/300 mA output. The 602 flexible holder is included, but no stirrer, heater or printer is listed.
The US product page provides a three-year limited instrument warranty and six months for probes from delivery. Coverage addresses qualifying defects, with exclusions for misuse, accidental damage, wear, improper storage and unauthorized work.
