An open-junction wastewater electrode with no reference refill and a manual-record workflow.
APERA INSTRUMENTS / PH850-WW / AI5531
PH850-WW combines the PH850 Value-series meter with the LabSen 333 pH/temperature electrode for wastewater, emulsions and suspensions. Its POM body, open junction and polymer reference suit samples that can foul ordinary electrodes. Read pH and temperature together, then enter the result in your own field or laboratory record.
Choose this kit for compatible collected dirty-water samples when you want direct measurement without onboard logging. The instrument’s ±0.01 pH ±1 digit accuracy describes the meter, not a guarantee against sample interference, probe contamination or inconsistent preparation.
Each card opens that model page. Match the supplied electrode and documented sample method. Different configurations are not interchangeable upgrades, and optional accessories are not supplied unless the exact kit contents say so.

AI5539
Small-volume samples
LabSen 243-6 and the conditional semi-micro-container method.
An open junction gives the polymer electrolyte contact with the sample, reducing the reliance on a small porous junction. LabSen 333 needs no electrolyte refill. This design supports wastewater work, but deposits can still affect the sensing surface and measurement quality. Routine cleaning remains part of the job.
The backlit LCD shows pH and temperature together, with completed-calibration indicators and a stability symbol. The silicone sleeve and IP57-rated instrument enclosure support field handling, while the fold-out stand supports tabletop readings. Keep the electrical connectors clean and dry.
The supplied probe combines pH sensing with an NTC 30 kΩ temperature sensor. Its BNC and RCA plugs connect separately to the meter. Check temperature-input compatibility before using another meter.
Measure compatible collected wastewater or treated effluent under a consistent sampling procedure. Record location, sample identity and temperature. A spot pH measurement does not by itself establish treatment performance or compliance.
The open junction and polymer reference suit many dispersed aqueous samples. Establish a repeatable mixing and immersion method, and clean between samples so carryover does not become a hidden source of error.
Use for compatible dirty-water samples that challenge conventional junctions. Neither the POM body nor the reference design guarantees resistance to every chemical, solids loading or abrasive slurry. Confirm suitability before testing an unfamiliar formulation.
Connect the blue BNC plug for pH and the black RCA plug for temperature. Both functions are in the supplied electrode, with an integrated NTC 30 kΩ sensor. Start calibration at pH 7.00 in the USA buffer series, then add appropriate acidic or alkaline points. Use fresh buffer portions and rinse between solutions.
Remove the storage bottle and rinse the probe before measuring. Calibrate at least two points when fitting a new electrode. Choose a representative, sufficiently mixed sample and immerse the sensing end without striking the vessel or burying the tip in settled solids. Keep the immersion procedure consistent.
Allow the measured temperature and pH to settle, then use the stability indication before recording. Match calibration and measurement temperatures as closely as practical. The temperature sensor enables compensation of electrode response, not correction of all sample chemistry. Start with a conservative 0 to 13 pH working window for the supplied electrode.
LabSen 333 contains a non-refillable polymer reference. Do not open it to add liquid electrolyte. The 3M KCl used outside the electrode is soaking solution for the storage bottle, not an internal refill. Keep the sensing glass and junction hydrated between sessions.
Rinse thoroughly before and after each measurement, then put the electrode back into its storage bottle with fresh, clean 3M KCl as needed. Do not store it in distilled or deionized water. The protective POM body does not make the exposed sensing tip unbreakable.
For stubborn contamination, follow the LabSen 333 cleaning procedure, recondition in 3M KCl and recalibrate. Avoid scraping the sensing surface. Strong acids, strong alkalis and dehydrating media require particular caution. Keep the probe within 0 to 80°C, regardless of the wider meter temperature display.
Use the physical controls for on-meter measurement and calibration. HOLD temporarily locks a reading on screen; write the result and its sample context in your external worksheet or record system. Screen values in photographs are illustrative, not sample results.
Use calibration solutions and settings appropriate to the parameter and fitted electrode. Temperature compensation does not make different sample temperatures, preparation methods or chemistry equivalent. Follow the model-specific meter and electrode instructions before extending the method to a new sample.
PH850 is a direct-reading Value-series instrument, not a data logger. There is no supported stored-reading recall, timed logging or computer export workflow for this model.
The stability icon helps you decide when to read. Optional automatic HOLD freezes a stable displayed result for transcription; it does not create a saved sample record. Record sample identity, pH, measured temperature, operator and your own date and time while the sample is still identifiable.
Keep calibration buffer details, electrode condition and any unusual drift alongside the result. A notebook or spreadsheet supplies the history; this kit does not promise software or automated reporting.
Alternative format: Apera PH8500-WW Premium Series configuration. The Premium Series counterpart offers a different recordkeeping workflow and kit specification. Compare the exact supplied electrode, accessories and data features rather than assuming similar model names mean identical hardware or software.
The current US PH850-WW page specifies LabSen 333. The electrode’s current catalog number is AI3133. It uses separate BNC and RCA plugs for pH and temperature, not an 8-pin connection.
No. Its open junction and polymer electrolyte address common junction problems, but dirty samples can still coat the sensor. Clean, inspect and recalibrate when response or repeatability deteriorates.
No. The polymer reference is non-refillable. Use 3M KCl in the external storage bottle to care for the sensing end; replace that soaking solution when contaminated.
The current LabSen 333 page lists 0 to 13 pH; the kit page and electrode manual list 0 to 14. Use 0 to 13 conservatively and confirm suitability before work above pH 13.
No universal solids percentage is specified for this kit. Validate your sample preparation and mixing method, consider abrasion and chemical compatibility, and do not force the sensing tip through dense material.
No. HOLD freezes the display to help you write a result down. PH850 has no specified reading memory or export output. Keep sample identity, temperature and your own timestamp in a separate record.
No. ATC adjusts the electrode response using measured temperature. It does not heat or cool the sample, and it does not remove the sample’s chemical changes with temperature.
The current US product page and PH850 manual specify a three-year limited instrument warranty and six months for the probe, from delivery. Accidental damage, misuse, normal wear and other listed exclusions are not covered.

Apera Manufacturer Limited Warranty
Apera states a limited three-year warranty for the instrument and a six-month warranty for the supplied probe from delivery, for defects attributable to the manufacturer and subject to its stated conditions.
Normal wear, accidental damage, improper use, transport or storage damage, failure to follow instructions, unauthorized repairs or modifications and other external causes are excluded. Keep the exact product and purchase details when requesting service.
Use the meter and electrode documents for their stated model and scope. European English editions are labeled where supplied; current US calibration, battery and packing details can differ. Check the supplied instrument markings when sources describe different hardware revisions. Each card opens a verified manufacturer PDF in a new tab.
