Portable small-sample pH with integrated temperature sensing and a refillable reference.
APERA INSTRUMENTS / PH850-MS / AI5539
PH850-MS pairs the PH850 Value meter with the refillable LabSen 243-6 glass pH/temperature electrode. Its slim 6 mm measuring end reaches into suitable test tubes and small sample vessels, with integrated temperature sensing for automatic compensation. The current kit also includes the purpose-made semi-micro container for the specified 60 µL method.
Choose this configuration when sample volume and vessel access matter. The minimum volume depends on the container and proper contact with the sensing glass and reference junction, not simply on how small a droplet can be placed near the tip.
Each card opens that model page. Match the supplied electrode and documented sample method. Different configurations are not interchangeable upgrades, and optional accessories are not supplied unless the exact kit contents say so.

LabSen 243-6 and the conditional semi-micro-container method.
LabSen 243-6 combines a slim glass pH sensor and an NTC 30 kΩ temperature sensor. Connect the BNC lead for pH and the RCA lead for temperature. The current configuration is not the older 242-6 listing or a separate no-temperature micro electrode.
The ordinary-vessel application is samples above 0.2 mL, provided the glass membrane and ceramic junction contact the sample correctly. The 60 µL claim belongs to the dedicated semi-micro container method, not every vial, shallow pool or exposed droplet.
The Long-Life reference uses 3M KCl refill solution. Open the refill plug during measurement to support electrolyte flow and monitor the internal level. The blue gel inside the sensing membrane is not the liquid you replenish through the reference refill opening.
The slim measuring end helps access suitable tubes without requiring a general-purpose 12 mm tip. Check opening, depth and clearance first, and keep the glass away from the tube bottom or sidewall during insertion.
Use the dedicated container when conserving a compatible liquid sample is important. Establish a clean handling sequence and account for rinse carryover, sample recovery and reference-electrolyte contact in the procedure.
Bring the kit to a sampling location or use its fold-out stand at a workstation. Portable measurement still requires suitable calibration and a defined sample temperature.
Remove the storage bottle carefully, rinse the electrode with distilled or deionized water and open the refill plug. Connect both leads and perform at least a two-point calibration before first measurement with a newly connected electrode. Use fresh buffers that bracket the expected sample pH.
For an ordinary vessel, use enough liquid to wet the sensing membrane and ceramic junction together. A nominal volume above 0.2 mL alone does not prove adequate contact in a wide vessel. Position the electrode gently without striking the glass or sealing the tip against the bottom.
For the 60 µL method, use the dedicated semi-micro container rather than substituting an arbitrary vial. Allow the displayed pH and temperature to settle before recording the result. Automatic temperature compensation corrects electrode response; it does not make the sample’s own temperature-dependent chemistry disappear.
The reference is refillable. When its solution level falls to about half the electrode height, add 3M KCl through the refill opening using a suitable syringe or pipette. Keep the refill liquid distinct from the blue internal gel and do not substitute Protelyte.
After testing, rinse off sample residue and return the electrode to its storage bottle containing 3M KCl. Replace contaminated soaking solution. Distilled or deionized water is for rinsing, not long-term storage of this pH electrode. Protect the narrow glass stem when tightening the cap.
Keep both connectors dry and clean. Follow the electrode manual for stubborn contamination, conditioning and recalibration. Avoid strong acids, strong alkalis and dehydrating media unless suitability has been reviewed; small dimensions do not make the sensor universally compatible with every scarce sample.
Use the physical controls for on-meter measurement and calibration. HOLD temporarily locks a reading on screen; write the result and its sample context in your external worksheet or record system. Screen values in photographs are illustrative, not sample results.
Use calibration solutions and settings appropriate to the parameter and fitted electrode. Temperature compensation does not make different sample temperatures, preparation methods or chemistry equivalent. Follow the model-specific meter and electrode instructions before extending the method to a new sample.
The current PH850-MS specification marks data storage, storage content and output N/A. Plan to transcribe stable results into your own worksheet or record system, rather than expecting stored sample recall or an instrument-generated export.
Record sample identity, pH, temperature, operator and time alongside the calibration buffers used. For micro-volume work, add the vessel and working volume so someone repeating the test can reproduce the contact method rather than just the number.
Review the entry before disposing of a limited sample. If the result is unexpected, check calibration, reference level, bubbles and sample contact first. Any record template shown here is a suggested external worksheet, not meter software or a supplied digital accessory.
Alternative format: Apera PH8500-MS Premium Series configuration. The Premium Series counterpart offers a different recordkeeping workflow and kit specification. Compare the exact supplied electrode, accessories and data features rather than assuming similar model names mean identical hardware or software.
The current US AI5539 page and Value Series category identify LabSen 243-6 with integrated temperature sensing. This listing follows that current configuration rather than an older catalog designation.
No. The 60 µL minimum is tied to the dedicated semi-micro container included in the current kit. An arbitrary droplet or vial may not wet both required sensing contacts.
The electrode is specified for samples above 0.2 mL, with suitable vessel geometry. Verify that the glass membrane and junction both contact the liquid; volume by itself is not a universal guarantee.
No. LabSen 243-6 has integrated temperature sensing. Connect both its BNC and RCA leads to PH850 so pH and temperature are available together.
Use 3M KCl for the reference refill and external storage bottle. Pure water is appropriate for rinsing, not storage. The reference liquid is different from the blue gel inside the sensing membrane.
The PH850 meter supports mV measurement, but ORP requires a suitable separate ORP electrode. The supplied LabSen 243-6 is the pH/temperature electrode, not an ORP sensor.
The current specification lists data storage and storage content N/A. Record stable readings externally while testing, including vessel and volume information for small-sample methods.
The current US kit page states three years for the instrument and six months for the probe from delivery. This is a limited warranty with exclusions including accidental damage, improper use and normal wear.

Apera Manufacturer Limited Warranty
Apera states a limited three-year warranty for the instrument and a six-month warranty for the supplied probe from delivery, for defects attributable to the manufacturer and subject to its stated conditions.
Normal wear, accidental damage, improper use, transport or storage damage, failure to follow instructions, unauthorized repairs or modifications and other external causes are excluded. Keep the exact product and purchase details when requesting service.
Use the meter and electrode documents for their stated model and scope. European English editions are labeled where supplied; current US calibration, battery and packing details can differ. Check the supplied instrument markings when sources describe different hardware revisions. Each card opens a verified manufacturer PDF in a new tab.
