A 96-well, 0.3 to 0.5 mL round-well plate is the go-to for compound storage, PCR cleanup, elution, and sample aliquots. At about 14.5 mm tall, these plates stack densely in the freezer and fit readers, stackers, and liquid handlers that take a standard-height microplate.

Two Lines, One Format

MTC Bio makes low-profile 96-well plates under two lines. OptiWell™ is MTC Bio's own line, with printed black alphanumerics. ILP, now part of MTC Bio, makes plates of the same format that often cost substantially less per case.

Because many labs have a specific catalog number written into an SOP or purchase order, we carry both. Select your plate, then switch versions in the second menu to see each price and catalog number.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these a good alternative to Corning® Axygen® or Thermo Scientific™ Nunc™ 0.5 mL 96-well storage plates?

Yes, for most applications. They are 96-well, round-well polypropylene plates rated 0.3 to 0.5 mL, in V-, U-, and flat-bottom, sterile or non-sterile, with a standard ANSI/SLAS footprint. Confirm height for automated systems before switching. Corning®, Axygen®, Thermo Scientific™, and Nunc™ are trademarks of their respective owners; Blue Tiger Scientific is not affiliated.

What is the difference between OptiWell™ and ILP?

Both are MTC Bio lines. OptiWell™ plates have black printed alphanumerics. ILP plates, from Innovative Laboratory Products (now part of MTC Bio), cover the same formats and are often much lower in price per case. Choose the one that matches your protocol or budget.

Why do rated volumes differ between versions of the same plate?

Manufacturers rate capacity differently. For example, the ILP DP04UR-9 is rated 335 µL and the OptiWell™ D3096-03 is rated 400 µL at the same 14.75 mm height. Use the height and well shape to match your equipment.

How many plates come in a case?

Every plate on this page ships 100 per case, in 10 bags of 10.

Can I centrifuge these plates?

Yes. OptiWell™ plates are rated up to 4,000 × g.

Can I store these plates at −80 °C?

Yes. The polypropylene plates are suitable for frozen storage. Seal with an adhesive film or foil rated for low temperatures.

Shipping Policy

Orders for MTC Bio products are fulfilled and shipped directly by MTC Bio using FedEx or UPS, with FedEx Ground as the default shipping method unless otherwise specified.

Expedited shipping options (2-Day, Overnight) are available at an additional cost.
MTC Bio only ships to residential or business addresses within the United States—no PO Boxes.
Orders placed after business hours, weekends, or holidays will be processed the next business day, pending product and carrier availability.
Shipping timelines may vary based on product availability, order size, and carrier logistics.
Blue Tiger Scientific and MTC Bio are not responsible for carrier delays, weather-related disruptions, or unforeseen delivery issues once the order has shipped.

Return Policy

If a return is necessary, customers must start the process with Blue Tiger Scientific before returning any products to MTC Bio.

All return requests must be initiated with Blue Tiger Scientific before shipping a product back to MTC Bio.
Customers must obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number from Blue Tiger Scientific before returning any item.
Customers are responsible for return shipping costs unless otherwise stated.
Opened or used products cannot be returned—only unused items in original packaging will be accepted.
Unauthorized returns (without an RMA) will be refused and returned at the customer’s expense.
Returned items are subject to inspection, and a 20% restocking fee may be applied.
