384-Well Deep-Well Plates for High-Density Sample Storage

A 384-well deep-well plate packs four times the samples of a 96-well plate onto the same footprint. That makes it the standard for compound libraries, high-throughput screening, and nucleic acid archives, where freezer space and liquid-handler throughput both count.

Two Lines, One Format

MTC Bio makes 384-well deep-well plates under two lines. OptiWell™ is MTC Bio's own line; ILP, now part of MTC Bio, makes plates of the same format. On the 120 µL plate ILP costs less per case, and on the deep plate OptiWell™ does.

The deep plates share a 24.9 mm height but are rated differently: 240 µL for OptiWell™ D3384-03 and 190 µL for ILP DP24VS-384. Choose by the catalog number your protocol specifies or by working volume.

Sealing 384-Well Plates

384-well plates need a seal that covers every well edge evenly. An adhesive film or heat seal works well for storage; see our plate sealing films and foils. For repeated access, our 384 square-well silicone sealing mats are reusable and pierceable. For 96-well storage plates, see our 0.3–0.5 mL storage plates. For solvent or LC-MS work, both ILP 384-well plates also come as glass-coated plates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these a good alternative to Corning® Axygen® or Thermo Scientific™ Nunc™ 384-well deep-well plates?

Yes, for most applications. They are polypropylene 384-well plates with square V-bottom wells, 120 to 240 µL, sterile or non-sterile, with a standard ANSI/SLAS footprint. Confirm height for automated systems before switching. Corning®, Axygen®, Thermo Scientific™, and Nunc™ are trademarks of their respective owners; Blue Tiger Scientific is not affiliated.

What is the difference between OptiWell™ and ILP?

Both are MTC Bio lines. ILP plates come from Innovative Laboratory Products, now part of MTC Bio. On this page ILP is the lower-priced option for the 120 µL plate, and OptiWell™ is the lower-priced option for the deep plate.

Why is the 120 µL plate priced higher than the deep plate?

Pack size. The 120 µL plates ship 100 per case; the deep plates ship 50 per case.

Why are the two deep plates rated differently?

Manufacturers rate capacity differently. Both are 24.9 mm tall; OptiWell™ D3384-03 is rated 240 µL and ILP DP24VS-384 is rated 190 µL. Use your working volume to choose.

Can I centrifuge these plates?

Yes. OptiWell™ plates are rated up to 4,000 × g.

Are these the same as 384-well PCR plates?

No. These are storage and sample-prep plates. For thermal cycling, see our 384-well PCR plates.

    Orders for MTC Bio products are fulfilled and shipped directly by MTC Bio using FedEx or UPS, with FedEx Ground as the default shipping method unless otherwise specified.

    • Expedited shipping options (2-Day, Overnight) are available at an additional cost.
    • MTC Bio only ships to residential or business addresses within the United States—no PO Boxes.
    • Orders placed after business hours, weekends, or holidays will be processed the next business day, pending product and carrier availability.
    • Shipping timelines may vary based on product availability, order size, and carrier logistics.
    • Blue Tiger Scientific and MTC Bio are not responsible for carrier delays, weather-related disruptions, or unforeseen delivery issues once the order has shipped.

    Return Policy

    If a return is necessary, customers must start the process with Blue Tiger Scientific before returning any products to MTC Bio.
