Portable dairy and liquid-food pH with a maintainable protein-focused reference.
APERA INSTRUMENTS / PH8500-DP / AI5552
Measure milk, cream, yogurt and compatible liquid foods with the PH8500-DP and its refillable LabSen 823 pH/temperature electrode. Three ceramic junctions, a silver-ion-trap reference and Protelyte distinguish this configuration from an ordinary water-testing kit. The portable PH8500 adds calibration prompts, a simultaneous temperature display and USB data handling.
Choose DP for protein-containing liquids and compatible biological or TRIS-buffer samples. It is not a spear-tip solid-food kit, a universal viscous-sample probe or a food-safety test.
Each card opens that model page. Match the supplied electrode and documented sample method. Different configurations are not interchangeable upgrades, and optional accessories are not supplied unless the exact kit contents say so.

LabSen 373 flat glass and PTFE ring must both contact the wet sample.
LabSen 823 uses a silver-ion trap and Protelyte to reduce protein-related junction problems. Its three ceramic junctions connect the reference to the liquid. This is a refillable system, not a sealed reference, and deposits still require attention. The hemispherical glass sensing end is for immersion rather than piercing.
The backlit display shows pH and temperature together, with a stability indicator and calibration icons. The silicone sleeve and folding stand support handheld or bench work. IP57 protects the instrument under its specified conditions; keep connectors dry and do not treat the glass electrode as impact-proof.
Save manually or at a timed interval within the 500-set meter capacity. A user-set clock supplies date and time. USB connects to Web PC-Link on desktop Chrome or Edge for Windows or Mac, with CSV export and a browser-print report workflow. This is not Bluetooth or ZenTest.
Check suitable milk, buttermilk, cream and yogurt samples using a consistent sampling temperature and preparation method. Fat and protein residue make cleaning between batches especially important.
Use where the sample permits sound immersion of the sensing end and junctions. Thick jam, concentrated syrups or highly viscous formulations may need a different electrode or a defined preparation procedure.
The reference chemistry suits compatible protein-containing and TRIS-buffer liquids. Confirm the complete formulation and method first; this application fit is not a clinical diagnostic or pharmaceutical validation claim.
Connect the blue BNC lead to pH/mV and the black RCA lead to temperature. Remove the storage bottle, rinse the electrode with distilled or deionized water, and open the blue refill plug before measuring. Both leads are needed for automatic temperature compensation; a BNC socket alone does not establish compatibility with another meter.
Use clean buffer portions and perform at least a two-point calibration with a new electrode. Start with pH 7.00 in the USA series, then choose a second point around the expected sample range; the meter supports one to three points. Rinse between solutions and avoid rubbing the sensing membrane. Set the clock before collecting dated records.
Immerse the sensing end and junctions without striking the vessel, then wait for the stability indicator. Record sample temperature alongside pH. Automatic compensation corrects the electrode response; it does not convert every sample to its pH at 25°C. Keep sample chemistry within the probe method, even when the display accepts a wider number.
Refill the internal reference with Protelyte when its level falls to about half the electrode height. This is separate from keeping the external storage bottle filled with the same specified solution. Use Protelyte AI1190, not generic KCl, for LabSen 823.
Rinse away residue after use, return the electrode to its Protelyte storage bottle, tighten the cap and close the refill plug. Replace contaminated storage solution. Pure water is useful for rinsing, not long-term storage. Protect the glass and keep the electrical connectors clean and dry.
For stubborn deposits, follow the electrode manual’s bounded cleaning procedure with the specified electrode cleaner, then recondition in the correct storage solution and recalibrate. Do not improvise aggressive chemical mixtures or treat a temperature rating as solvent resistance. Strong acids, strong alkalis and dehydrating media need a separate suitability review.
Use the physical meter controls for measurement and calibration, then record or save a stable result. A held display and a stored record are different functions. Screen values in photographs are illustrative, not measurements of your sample.
Choose the correct buffer family and calibration points for the intended work. Temperature compensation addresses electrode response; it does not make different sample temperatures, preparation methods or chemistry equivalent. Follow the exact probe instructions before extending the method to a new sample.
The PH8500 can retain up to 500 sets with date, time, measurement value, unit, temperature and the last calibration record. Manual saving follows a stable indication. Timed logging can be configured from one minute to 99 hours 59 minutes. Keep the clock and sample identification procedure consistent; deleting stored values cannot be undone.
The current Web PC-Link workflow uses USB with a compatible desktop Chrome or Edge browser on Windows or Mac. It supports CSV output and browser-print reporting. Check the exact instructions and connection before relying on a field data workflow; do not assume Firefox, Bluetooth or ZenTest support.
When connected to PC-Link, new records go to software rather than meter memory. Export and back up important records before closing the tool. This does not establish automatic permanent backup, an immutable audit trail, electronic signatures, regulatory compliance or guaranteed background operation.
Alternative configuration: Apera PH8500 general-water kit with 201T-F. That kit supplies a different electrode. Choose the sample-facing sensor and method rather than treating a common meter body as universal sample compatibility.
PH8500-DP catalog AI5552 includes LabSen 823, replacement catalog AI3153. It has integrated NTC 30 kΩ temperature sensing with BNC and RCA connectors; no separate temperature probe is needed.
Yes. Replenish the reference through its refill opening with Protelyte. External wet storage is a second task, using the same specified solution. Neither operation calls for filling the blue sensing gel.
Not as a general promise. LabSen 823 is an immersion electrode for compatible liquids. Viscosity, solids and protein deposits can still restrict reference contact; confirm preparation and cleaning before adopting a method.
No. The instrument reads -2.00 to 16.00 pH; LabSen 823 is rated 0 to 14 pH. Automatic or manual temperature compensation is specified from 0 to 100°C. These ranges are not universal sample-compatibility guarantees.
New readings logged during a PC-Link connection go to the software rather than meter history. Export before closing the session. Downloading stored meter readings is a separate operation; do not assume an automatic backup exists.
Web PC-Link exports CSV and opens browser printing. CSV can be opened in Excel; saving a printout as PDF depends on the browser and operating system. This is not a native XLSX or direct PDF-export claim.
No. Date, time, readings and calibration information support documentation, but do not establish 21 CFR Part 11 compliance, electronic signatures or loss-proof storage. Use your own validated record-control procedure where required.
The current limited warranty is three years for the instrument and six months for the probe from delivery. Coverage addresses qualifying defects, not normal wear, accidental damage, improper storage or failure to follow maintenance instructions.

Apera Manufacturer Limited Warranty
Apera states a limited three-year warranty for the instrument and a six-month warranty for the supplied probe from delivery, for defects attributable to the manufacturer and subject to its stated conditions.
Normal wear, accidental damage, improper use, transport or storage damage, failure to follow instructions, unauthorized repairs or modifications and other external causes are excluded. Keep the exact product and purchase details when requesting service.
Use the common meter instructions for meter operation and the exact electrode instructions for its contact, cleaning and storage method. Generic base-kit packing lists do not establish specialty-kit contents. Each card opens a verified PDF in a new tab.
