A good rack is the difference between an organized bench and a tipped-over sample. MTC Bio racks are 100% polypropylene and come in the layouts labs use most: microtube racks, reversible racks, 15 and 50 mL conical racks, a PCR rack with lid, and lidded boxes for the fridge and freezer.

Pick the rack in the first menu, then the color in the second. Most come as a rainbow pack of 5 so you can color-code by project, user, or sample type; the 80-place and 100-place formats also come in single colors.

The 80-Place Microtube Rack

The R1040 holds 80 microtubes in 5 rows of 16 in a compact footprint. Well bottoms are recessed so conical tubes sit steady without making self-standing tubes wobble, and raised numbers sit beside every well.

Two frosted areas, on the side and the bottom, give you room to label each rack. It is autoclavable polypropylene, sold as a rainbow pack of 5 or in a single color.

Lidded Boxes for Cold Storage

The R1020 box holds 100 × 1.5 mL tubes in a 10×10 grid with an attached hinged lid, so the lid never gets lost. It comes as a rainbow pack or in blue, black, green, orange, red, or yellow.

For 2 mL tubes, the R1060 freezer rack holds 81 in the standard 9×9 format with a friction-fit lid. For cardboard and polycarbonate boxes, see our freezer boxes.

Tip for Keeping Samples Cold

Are these a good alternative to Heathrow Scientific® or Thermo Scientific™ Nalgene™ tube racks?

Yes, for most applications. They are polypropylene racks for 0.2 mL PCR tubes through 50 mL conicals, including reversible and lidded formats, in rainbow packs or single colors. Heathrow Scientific®, Thermo Scientific™, and Nalgene™ are trademarks of their respective owners; Blue Tiger Scientific is not affiliated.

How many racks come in a pack?

Which rack fits 15 and 50 mL tubes?

The R1030 4-way rack holds 4 × 50 mL, 12 × 15 mL, or 32 microtubes, depending on the side you use. The R1070 holds 30 × 15 mL and 20 × 50 mL at once.

What does reversible mean?

The R1050 and R1090-B racks have wells for 1.5/2.0 mL tubes on one side and 0.5 mL tubes on the other. Flip the rack to switch.

Can I autoclave these racks?

The R1040 rack is autoclavable polypropylene. Check the temperature rating for other formats before autoclaving.

Can I store racks in the freezer?

The lidded PCR rack (R1010), 100-place box (R1020), and 81-place rack (R1060) are made for refrigerator and freezer storage.

    Shipping Policy

    Orders for MTC Bio products are fulfilled and shipped directly by MTC Bio using FedEx or UPS, with FedEx Ground as the default shipping method unless otherwise specified.

    • Expedited shipping options (2-Day, Overnight) are available at an additional cost.
    • MTC Bio only ships to residential or business addresses within the United States—no PO Boxes.
    • Orders placed after business hours, weekends, or holidays will be processed the next business day, pending product and carrier availability.
    • Shipping timelines may vary based on product availability, order size, and carrier logistics.

    Return Policy

    If a return is necessary, customers must start the process with Blue Tiger Scientific before returning any products to MTC Bio.

    • Customers must obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number from Blue Tiger Scientific before returning any item.
