Reagent Reservoirs Built for Robots and Multichannel Pipettes

An automation reservoir is the plate-shaped trough your liquid handler draws reagent from. These sit on a standard ANSI/SLAS footprint, so they drop into the same deck positions, stackers, and cooling blocks as a microplate, and they work just as well under an 8-, 12-, or 96-channel pipette on the bench.

ILP Reservoirs in Three Heights

ILP, now part of MTC Bio, makes its reservoirs in low, mid, and full height. Low-height reservoirs hold about 100 mL, mid-height 144 to 190 mL, and full-height up to 290 mL, all on the same footprint.

Shorter reservoirs save space in freezers, automated loaders, and under the hood, and can be filled and stacked. Sterile, individually wrapped mid-height reservoirs are available 10 per case for single-use setups.

MTC Bio OptiWell D3390-4 automation reservoir with 4 channels

OptiWell™ Reservoirs and Covers

MTC Bio's OptiWell™ reservoirs are about 31.5 mm tall and hold 180 to 195 mL. They come as an open single well, 96- or 384-indent wells with pyramid bottoms, and 4-, 8-, or 12-channel layouts, each in sterile and non-sterile versions.

Add a 9.3 mm OptiWell™ reservoir cover to keep dust and splashes out between runs. Covers ship 200 per case.

Tip for Less Waste

Choose the smallest reservoir your run allows: a low-height reservoir needs less priming volume, so less reagent is left in the trough at the end. For plates to dispense into, see our 96-well 2 mL deep-well plates and 384-well deep-well plates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these a good alternative to Corning® Axygen® or Thermo Scientific™ automation reservoirs?

Yes, for most applications. They are polypropylene reagent reservoirs on a standard ANSI/SLAS footprint, in single-well, indented, trough, and multi-channel layouts, sterile or non-sterile. Confirm height and deck clearance for your liquid handler before switching. Corning®, Axygen®, and Thermo Scientific™ are trademarks of their respective owners; Blue Tiger Scientific is not affiliated.

What is the difference between OptiWell™ and ILP?

Both are MTC Bio lines. OptiWell™ reservoirs are about 31.5 mm tall and come sterile or non-sterile in every layout. ILP, from Innovative Laboratory Products (now part of MTC Bio), offers low, mid, and full heights, plus 8- and 12-trough single wells.

What do the indents do?

In a 96- or 384-indent reservoir, each pipette tip lands in its own pyramid- or V-shaped indent. Reagent collects at the tip, which lowers dead volume compared with a flat trough.

Why is the individually wrapped version priced lower?

Pack size. Individually wrapped sterile ILP reservoirs ship 10 per case; the other reservoirs ship 50 per case.

Do the covers fit ILP reservoirs?

The OptiWell™ D3390-CV and D3390-CVS covers are made for OptiWell™ reservoirs. Check the fit before using them on other reservoirs.

Can I use these with a manual multichannel pipette?

Yes. They work with 8-, 12-, and 96-channel pipettes. For small benchtop volumes, our ASPIR-8™ and standard solution reservoirs are a lower-cost option.

Shipping Policy

Orders for MTC Bio products are fulfilled and shipped directly by MTC Bio using FedEx or UPS, with FedEx Ground as the default shipping method unless otherwise specified.

Expedited shipping options (2-Day, Overnight) are available at an additional cost.
MTC Bio only ships to residential or business addresses within the United States—no PO Boxes.
Orders placed after business hours, weekends, or holidays will be processed the next business day, pending product and carrier availability.
Shipping timelines may vary based on product availability, order size, and carrier logistics.
Blue Tiger Scientific and MTC Bio are not responsible for carrier delays, weather-related disruptions, or unforeseen delivery issues once the order has shipped.

Return Policy

If a return is necessary, customers must start the process with Blue Tiger Scientific before returning any products to MTC Bio.

All return requests must be initiated with Blue Tiger Scientific before shipping a product back to MTC Bio.
Customers must obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number from Blue Tiger Scientific before returning any item.
Customers are responsible for return shipping costs unless otherwise stated.
Opened or used products cannot be returned—only unused items in original packaging will be accepted.
Unauthorized returns (without an RMA) will be refused and returned at the customer’s expense.
Returned items are subject to inspection, and a 20% restocking fee may be applied.
Refunds will cover the product cost only—shipping fees paid at the time of purchase are non-refundable.
Certain items, such as custom-built, special-order, or hazardous materials, may not be eligible for return.
