Not every plate is headed for a thermal cycler. ELISA plates need a film that peels off cleanly between steps, luminescence reads need an opaque white seal, cultures need to breathe, and freezer plates need a seal that stays put for months.
Pick the seal by what the plate is for in the menu: easy-peel ELISA film, white luminescence film, indexed films with printed well labels, long-term storage film, heat-seal aluminum foil, or breathable film for cultures. Every seal is pre-cut for standard SBS plates.
6 Seal Types
Assay, culture, storage
Easy Peel
Low-adhesive ELISA film
Breathable
Sterile culture film
SBS
Pre-cut for standard plates
Clean Peel for ELISA
Low-adhesive PureAmp™ film lifts off between wash steps without leaving residue.
White for Luminescence
Opaque white film reflects signal back to the detector and helps limit crosstalk between wells.
Printed Well Labels
Indexed films carry printed alphanumerics, so wells stay identifiable once sealed.
Built for the Freezer
Long-term storage film has an extra-strong adhesive and a surface you can write on.
Heat-Seal Foil
Aluminum foil bonds to the plate under a plate heat sealer for a durable storage seal.
Breathable for Cultures
Sterile non-woven film allows gas exchange while keeping contaminants out.
Match the seal to the job. For PCR, qPCR, and pierceable foils, see our PCR and qPCR sealing films and foils. For clear, black, and white plates to seal, see our 96- and 384-well assay microplates.

Best for: Luminescence reads and plates that must stay labeled
Long-Term Storage
Catalog No.: SF081PE-9-C, HSF50-9-ALM
Film: Strong-adhesive polyester or heat-seal foil
Best for: Freezer storage and compound libraries
Cell and Microbial Culture
Catalog No.: SF041RA-9-TC-S
Film: Sterile breathable non-woven rayon
Best for: Shaking cultures in deep-well plates

A sealed culture plate still needs oxygen. The SF041RA film is a sterile, non-woven rayon with acrylic adhesive that lets gases pass through while keeping out airborne contaminants.
Use it on 96-well 2 mL deep-well plates or 24- and 48-well deep-well plates for bacterial and yeast cultures on a shaker.

Heat-seal foil bonds to the plate rim under a plate heat sealer, giving a durable seal for long-term and −80 °C storage.
HSF50 is 0.8 mil aluminum with a heat-activated adhesive, sterile or non-sterile, 500 per case. You need a plate heat sealer to apply it; set temperature and time for your sealer and plate type.
Seal between incubation steps with easy-peel film, then peel from one corner at a low angle so the film lifts without splashing wells. For resealable access instead of films, see our silicone sealing mats.
Yes, for most applications. They include easy-peel ELISA film, white luminescence film, indexed films, long-term storage film, heat-seal foil, and sterile breathable film, all pre-cut for standard plates. P1001-E. Its low-adhesive film seals during incubations and peels off cleanly between wash steps. Choose P1001-E-S for sterile work.
A white film reflects light back toward the detector and helps keep signal from reaching neighboring wells, which benefits luminescence reads.
Yes. HSF50 foil uses a heat-activated adhesive and must be applied with a plate heat sealer.
Yes. SF041RA is a sterile, non-woven rayon film that allows gas exchange while keeping contaminants out.
No. For thermal cycling, use our PCR and qPCR sealing films and foils.
