APERA INSTRUMENTS / WS100 / AI4725
The WS100 measures fluoride from 0.02 to 1900 ppm with Apera’s F501-S 3-in-1 electrode, which combines the ion-selective, reference and temperature elements in one body. Apera states it needs no stirring or added reagents. Switch probes and the same meter reads pH from −2.00 to 19.99 with the 201T-S ATC electrode, or ORP with an optional probe.
Both electrodes, two fluoride standards and three pH buffers come in the carrying case. The handheld is IP57 rated and runs on two AA batteries; Apera positions it for drinking water, surface water and water treatment testing in the field or the lab.
Start with the ion you need to measure, then the extra parameters. All three share the same IP57 handheld meter body and run on two AA batteries. Each card opens that product page.
AI4725
Fluoride + pH
F501 3-in-1 fluoride probe and 201T-S pH electrode. ORP with an optional probe.
AI4721
Fluoride + pH + conductivity
Adds the 2301T-S cell for conductivity, TDS, salinity and resistivity.
AI4731
Water hardness (Ca²⁺ + Mg²⁺)
601-S hardness electrode with B1/B2/B3 standards; eight hardness units.
Kit list follows Apera’s WS100 instruction manual and Apera’s US product page.
Connect the F501-S and the meter switches to fluoride mode on its own. A new electrode, or one being used for the first time, soaks in the 19.00 mg/L standard for one hour; in regular use, 10 to 20 minutes is enough. Wait until the reading settles and the smiley-face stability icon stays on before you calibrate. Readings during activation are random.
Press CAL and the meter asks for 0.19 mg/L first, then 19.00 mg/L. Rinse the probe in distilled or deionized water, shake off the excess, dip it, stir gently and let it stand; press CAL again when the stability icon stays on. The L and H icons confirm a two-point calibration. Apera states no stirring or added reagents are needed in the sample.
The meter does not recognize which fluoride standard is in the cup. Use the solution the display asks for, 0.19 mg/L or 19.00 mg/L; the wrong one produces a wrong calibration.
The 0.19 mg/L standard contaminates easily, and a small amount of carryover causes a large error. Apera recommends replacing the fluoride standards after four to five uses.
Measure from low to high concentration where you can; going from high to low, rinse first. Keep samples within ±15°C of the standards, and at the same temperature for the best accuracy. Apera lists a sample pH requirement of 5.0–6.0 for fluoride.
Connect the 201T-S pH/ATC electrode, unscrew its storage bottle and the meter opens in pH mode. Calibration starts at pH 7.00 (C1), then pH 4.00 (C2) and pH 10.01 (C3); press the enter key after any point to stop there. One point at pH 7.00 suits work to ±0.1 pH; use 4.00/7.00 for acidic samples, 7.00/10.01 for alkaline samples, and all three for a wide range or a new electrode.
The meter recognizes buffers from three series: USA (1.68, 4.00, 7.00, 10.01, 12.45), NIST (1.68, 4.01, 6.86, 9.18, 12.45) and CH. Err1 flags an electrode zero point outside ±60 mV and Err2 a slope outside 85–105%. Store the electrode in its bottle of 3M KCl (Apera AI1107); Apera puts its service life at about one to two years.
Two optional settings apply pH temperature compensation for purified water and for purified water with ammonia added. Both are off by default.
Short-press the mode key for mV. With Apera’s 301Pt-S ORP electrode, sold separately, the meter reads −1999 to 1999 mV at 1 mV resolution, ±0.1% FS.
The backlit LCD shows the parameter, the reading, the unit and the sample temperature together, with a smiley-face icon once the reading is stable and L, M and H icons for the calibration points in use. A battery icon warns when the two AA cells are low.
Five keys run the meter: power, CAL, MODE, enter/backlight and M+/RM. Press M+ when the reading is stable to store it with its number, unit and temperature; hold it to recall stored readings. The backlight times out after 0, 1, 3 or 6 minutes and the meter switches itself off after 0, 10 or 20 minutes, both set in the parameter menu.
Fluoride accuracy is ±0.02 ppm or ±5% of reading, whichever is greater, with automatic temperature compensation from 0 to 80°C. pH accuracy is ±0.01 pH ±1 digit, with compensation from 0 to 100°C.
The meter stores 300 readings with their number, unit and temperature. It measures 65 × 120 × 31 mm and weighs 180 g, runs on two AA batteries and is IP57 rated against dust and water.
The Apera WS200 (AI4721) uses the same meter and fluoride and pH probes, and adds a 2301T-S cell for conductivity, TDS, salinity and resistivity. For calcium and magnesium hardness, the YD300 (AI4731) uses the same handheld format with Apera’s 601-S hardness electrode.
It is a 3-in-1 combination electrode: fluoride ion-selective, reference and temperature elements in one body. Apera states that no stirring or added reagents are needed.
One hour in the 19.00 mg/L standard for a new electrode or first use; 10 to 20 minutes in regular use. Start calibrating once the reading is stable.
mg/L, ppm and pF. The meter also shows the electrode mV.
Apera recommends calibrating before each use when accuracy matters. If accuracy needs are low, check the probe in a standard first; if the error is small, recalibration is not necessary.
Yes, in mV mode with Apera’s 301Pt-S ORP electrode, which is sold separately: −1999 to 1999 mV at 1 mV resolution.
Rinse the fluoride probe, shake off the water and store it dry with its cap on. Keep the pH electrode in its storage bottle of 3M KCl.
Two AA batteries, with three spares in the kit. The meter is IP57 rated and turns itself off after 10 minutes by default.
Apera’s limited warranty covers the meter for two years and the probes for six months from delivery, excluding misuse, accidental damage, improper maintenance, unauthorized repair and the other causes in Apera’s terms. Warranty service is handled through Apera; returns are coordinated with Blue Tiger Scientific.
