The two-tier arrangement separates the working positions vertically, making the tube set easier to survey during filling and retrieval. Use the embossed index numbers to associate each position with your sample list. The purpose is not simply to fit more tubes onto a surface, but to keep a small active set accessible while hands and pipettes move through the task.

Check tube fit and finger access

Heathrow lists 1.0 and 1.5/2.0 mL tube sizes and a 10 mm well diameter. Tube geometry varies, so compare the body shape and support point of your chosen tube with the rack. The front finger slot provides access for removing tubes; keep that side facing the operator rather than blocking it against another piece of equipment.
