Frequently Asked Questions
Which mesh sizes are available?
Choose 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 70 or 100 µm. Colors are orange, teal, red, purple, blue, grey, white and yellow respectively.
What is included in one pack?
Each ordering unit contains 50 individually wrapped sterile strainers and one reducing adapter. It does not contain 50 adapters, receiving tubes or a pestle.
What are the strainer materials?
The frame is polypropylene and the mesh is nylon. MTC Bio identifies these strainers as RNase, DNase, pyrogen and cytotoxin free.
Which collection vessels can I use?
The strainers are designed for 50 mL tubes and are compatible with 6-well plates. The included reducing adapter supports smaller tube formats such as 15 mL and 5 mL tubes; confirm dimensions for your vessel.
Why does the frame include feet and aeration?
The aerated design provides a path for air to escape while filtrate enters the tube. The 1.5 mm feet support use over flat plates and dishes.
Can strainers be stacked?
Yes. MTC Bio describes the frames as interlocking and stackable. Validate any sequential-filtration arrangement for recovery and sample suitability.
How does the 40 µm option compare with Falcon 352340?
SureStrain C4040 and Corning Falcon 352340 both use 40 µm nylon mesh with a polypropylene frame and sterile individual packaging, supplied 50 per ordering unit. SureStrain includes one reducing adapter per pack; Corning describes 352340 as fitting 50 mL Falcon conical tubes. These are separately manufactured products, not certified identical or guaranteed interchangeable. Validate fit and recovery before changing your workflow.
Will straining guarantee a single-cell suspension?
No. Mesh size is only one part of sample preparation. Cell size, tissue dissociation, aggregate loading and protocol all affect recovery and downstream results.
