MAJOR SCIENCE · MINI-500
When a gel method needs more than 300 V, the MINI-500 lets you stay with a compact, straightforward controller. It offers 10–500 V and 1–400 mA adjustment ranges, with up to 120 W output, in an approximately 140 × 191 mm bench footprint. Constant-voltage and constant-current modes keep the emphasis on the settings your protocol actually uses.
Two-step programming accommodates a change in running conditions, while two pairs of output terminals give you convenient connection points for suitable gel setups. At approximately 1 kg, this is a practical choice for a dedicated mini-gel station or a bench where space is shared with sample preparation.
10–500 V
Voltage setting range; 1 V increments.
1–400 mA
Current setting range; 1 mA increments.
120 W
Maximum output power; consider voltage and current together.
Reach beyond routine voltage ranges
Set voltage up to 500 V in 1 V increments when your method and apparatus call for it. The 120 W ceiling offers more power capacity than MINI-300 without increasing the published instrument dimensions.
Set low-current methods deliberately
Current adjustment starts at 1 mA and continues to 400 mA in 1 mA increments. That lower starting point makes MINI-500 worth considering when a current-controlled method falls below MINI-300's 10 mA minimum.
Plan the next stage before starting
Use the two-step program to define sequential conditions rather than returning to enter a second stage manually. Choose timed operation with an alarm or continuous operation to suit the method.
For horizontal agarose or mini vertical electrophoresis, begin with the gel apparatus and the method's voltage or current requirement. Prepare the gel and buffer, check the apparatus rating and connection compatibility, then enter the run conditions before starting. A 500 V supply adds flexibility; it does not mean every gel should be run at 500 V.
For a validated method with two stages, enter each stage's electrical settings and time during setup. If you plan to use both terminal pairs, check the connected equipment and overall electrical demand together. Keep the run within the supply's voltage, current and power limits as well as the limits of the gel apparatus.
Microprocessor control and an LED display provide a straightforward way to manage the run. Choose constant voltage when the method specifies voltage control, or constant current when current is the required controlled parameter. The other electrical quantities depend on the connected load and the supply limits.
The MINI-500 combines no-load detection with shrouded plugs and sockets, a polycarbonate housing and aluminium base plates. Use those features alongside normal bench practice: keep connections dry and stop and isolate the output before changing the connected apparatus.
Both program steps offer the same 10–500 V and 1–400 mA adjustment ranges, so the second stage is not restricted to a narrower electrical range. Set the conditions from your established method and use the timer, which supports up to 999 minutes with an alarm, to define the run duration.
A time setting of 0 selects continuous operation until manually stopped. For a single-stage run, setting voltage or current to 0 in Step 2 prevents progression to that step. This is a programming control, distinct from the normal 10 V and 1 mA minimum output settings.
Start with the parameter your method needs held constant, then check the expected load against all three ratings. MINI-500 offers constant voltage or constant current; 120 W is its maximum output power, not a constant-power operating mode. Calculate power as voltage multiplied by current in amperes.
For example, 500 V at 240 mA equals 120 W, and 300 V at 400 mA also equals 120 W. By contrast, 500 V at 400 mA would require 200 W and is outside this supply's capability. These examples explain the operating envelope, not a recommended gel protocol; allow suitable headroom for your actual method.
MINI-500 is the focused choice when you need up to 500 V, a current setting below 10 mA, or more than MINI-300's 60 W ceiling while retaining the same compact format. If your method comfortably fits MINI-300's 300 V, 400 mA and 60 W limits, that model remains a straightforward alternative.
Choose a Lively model when the priority is constant-power control, stored programs or more than two stages. MP-310 adds those features at up to 300 V and 150 W; MP-510 combines them with a 500 V ceiling and 300 W output capacity. Match the choice to the method rather than treating every larger controller as a necessary upgrade.

Catalog number MINI-500 identifies the standalone Major Science Mini Pro 500V Power Supply. This listing is for the power supply, not a complete horizontal or vertical electrophoresis system.
Pair it with the gel apparatus and consumables required by your workflow. For a new installation or replacement, give Blue Tiger Scientific your apparatus model and connection requirements so the equipment selection can be checked before ordering.
If the order depends on a particular lead, mains plug or carton accessory, ask Blue Tiger Scientific to confirm that requirement before purchase.
Bench tip: When replacing a 300 V supply, check the current setting range and wattage as well as voltage. MINI-500's 1 mA minimum may be just as important to your method as its 500 V maximum.
MINI-500 provides 10–500 V in 1 V increments and 1–400 mA in 1 mA increments, with 120 W maximum output power. Those voltage and current ranges apply to both program steps.
No. Standard MINI-500 offers constant-voltage and constant-current modes. Its 120 W rating describes maximum output capacity. For constant-power control, consider the Lively range.
No. That combination would require 200 W, above the 120 W output limit. At 500 V, 240 mA corresponds to 120 W; the actual running current also depends on the connected load and selected conditions.
MINI-500 has two pairs of output terminals. Plan connected gel setups around compatible run conditions and the unit's overall ratings; the terminal count does not multiply its 400 mA or 120 W capacity.
Yes. Setting voltage or current to 0 in Step 2 prevents the instrument from proceeding to that step. For a two-stage method, enter valid operating settings and timing for both stages.
The timer supports up to 999 minutes with an alarm. Setting the time to 0 selects continuous operation until you stop the run manually. Choose the timing arrangement specified by your method.
The instrument measures approximately 140 × 191 × 84 mm (W × L × H) and weighs approximately 1 kg. Its mains rating is 100–240 V AC, 50–60 Hz, 2.5 A, and its operating-temperature range is 4–40°C. The 2.5 A figure is an input rating, not electrophoresis output current.
No. MINI-500 is the standalone Mini Pro 500V power-supply SKU. Select the gel apparatus and workflow consumables separately, and match the apparatus ratings and connections to your intended run.
Factory presets are reference values, not a validated protocol for your gel.
