MAJOR SCIENCE · MBE-200BW
The Major Science MBE-200BW brings two illumination options to a single compact flat-bed unit. Use 470 nm blue light for compatible fluorescent gels, then turn the instrument over to work with its white LED viewing surface.
A built-in sensor changes the illumination as you reverse the unit, making side selection simple. The 153 × 153 mm viewing area, included amber filter and synthetic-paper hood support a flexible bench setup without requiring separate blue and white viewing bases.

Filter + hood included
Amber viewing filter and synthetic-paper hood in the stated set.
Blue and white LED sources are integrated on opposite sides of the MBE-200BW. A built-in dynamic sensor switches the active light when you reverse the transilluminator, so the surface you choose sets the viewing mode.
A manual ON/OFF switch provides straightforward control. This is a dual-sided viewing design for selecting between blue and white light, rather than a claim of simultaneous two-color illumination on one surface.
The blue side supplies 470 nm LED illumination for gel workflows using suitable fluorescent stains. The included 580 nm amber filter provides the corresponding filtered viewing arrangement.
The separate inclined filter leaves the flat viewing base accessible for your chosen workflow. Match the stain protocol to the illumination and filter combination when planning nucleic-acid or protein gel work.
Turn the unit over for white LED illumination when your sample or film calls for white-light viewing. Major Science describes the source as whole-wavelength white light and identifies applications including protein work and X-ray film viewing.
This second surface is useful when your laboratory alternates between fluorescent and visible-result workflows. The compact format lets you keep both illumination options at the same workstation while choosing the appropriate side for each task.
The 153 × 153 mm viewing area offers a square surface for small and suitably sized midi gels or film sections. Check your sample dimensions against this area when selecting a viewing unit.
The body measures approximately 200 × 200 × 15.6 mm and weighs approximately 935.5 g. Its slim aluminum-alloy construction makes it convenient to reposition without committing a large section of bench space.
The MBE-200BW set includes a 580 nm amber filter and a synthetic-paper hood. These accessories support a compact viewing arrangement while keeping the transilluminator itself low-profile.
For a separate phone-based imaging setup, Major Science explicitly offers a pairing with the DI-CP Simple Imager Hood. DI-CP, the phone and appropriate imaging filters are separate selections, not additional items in the standalone MBE-200BW set.
The MBE-200BW is the choice when both blue and white illumination have a place in your laboratory. Side selection makes it easy to alternate tasks while retaining the same 153 × 153 mm viewing format.
The unit requires DC 12 V, 2 A and includes automatic shutdown after approximately six minutes. For a lighter, blue-only option with the same stated viewing area, compare the MBE-200A.
The manufacturer shows phone-based capture over each side using a paper hood. These photographs illustrate an optional capture workflow, not an included phone or a quantitative analysis system.
The separately ordered DI-CP is a metal phone-imaging hood, not the MBE-HOOD paper hood included with MBE-200BW. Major Science explicitly shows the MBE-200BW and DI-CP combination as an additional configuration.
The DI-CP, phone and appropriate camera filter are separate selections. Ask Blue Tiger Scientific about the required capture configuration rather than assuming a hood, phone or imaging software is bundled.
Choose by illuminated area and the type of light your sample requires. MBE-200A and MBE-200BW share the larger square field; MBE-300 is the smaller blue-light format. No field-size comparison guarantees tank or stain compatibility.

Check the gel or film size against the illuminated area, then match the stain and filter to the selected light source. Account for the approximately six-minute automatic shutdown when planning observations or capture.
Use the manufacturer operating instructions and appropriate laboratory filtering and safety procedures. Blue illumination is not a blanket assurance that protective measures are unnecessary.
Turn the transilluminator over to select the other viewing surface. Its built-in sensor automatically switches the light as the unit is reversed. A manual ON/OFF switch is also provided.
The documented design places the two sources on opposite sides and switches between them when the unit is flipped. Choose the side that suits your sample rather than treating it as a simultaneous mixed-light source.
The blue LED wavelength is 470 nm. Major Science describes the white LED source as whole-wavelength white light; it does not specify a Kelvin color temperature in the listed model specifications.
The stated viewing area is 153 × 153 mm. Choose gels or film sections that fit this illuminated area; the outer body measures approximately 200 × 200 × 15.6 mm.
The set includes the dual-sided transilluminator, a 580 nm amber filter and a synthetic-paper hood. A phone and the optional DI-CP imaging hood are not part of this standalone set.
Yes. Major Science explicitly identifies the MBE-200BW as a pairing for its DI-CP Simple Imager Hood. Select the DI-CP hood, suitable imaging filter and phone separately for that workflow.
Both models have a 153 × 153 mm viewing area. The MBE-200BW adds an opposite-side white LED source and flip-controlled switching; its body is approximately 15.6 mm high and 935.5 g, versus 13.9 mm and 760 g for the blue-only MBE-200A.
The MBE-200BW requires DC 12 V, 2 A and shuts down automatically after approximately six minutes. Use the manual ON/OFF switch for direct control.
