MAJOR SCIENCE · MBE-200A

Bring blue-light gel viewing closer to your bench

Give routine gel checks a dedicated place without filling your work surface. The Major Science MBE-200A BluView Transilluminator provides 470 nm blue LED illumination across a 153 × 153 mm flat-bed viewing area for gels prepared with compatible fluorescent stains.

Its separate inclined amber filter keeps the base slim and gives you a practical viewing arrangement. With an aluminum-alloy body, approximately 760 g weight and an included synthetic-paper hood, the MBE-200A is easy to position where your workflow needs it.

Choose the viewing area your gels need

The 153 × 153 mm illuminated area accommodates gel formats that fit within this square viewing surface. It gives small and suitably sized midi gels room for inspection without the footprint of a large imaging station.

The instrument body measures approximately 200 × 200 mm, so bench planning is straightforward. Keep the viewing area and outer footprint distinct when comparing your gel dimensions and available space.

Match 470 nm illumination to your stain

A 15 W blue LED source provides the MBE-200A with 470 nm excitation. Choose fluorescent stains suited to this illumination and the amber-filter viewing arrangement to build a consistent gel-checking workflow.

The supplied 580 nm amber filter is separate from the base and sits at an incline. This lets you arrange direct viewing around the gel rather than work through an integrated hinged instrument lid.

Keep your bench flexible

At approximately 13.9 mm high and 760 g, the aluminum-alloy base is convenient to carry between work areas. Its low-profile flat-bed design makes it a practical choice for laboratories that share viewing equipment.

The compact format suits a dedicated gel-checking spot or a flexible station beside your existing workflow. The included filter and hood give you useful viewing accessories without turning the base into a bulky camera enclosure.

Start with the viewing accessories included

The MBE-200A package includes the MBE-LID-AM580 inclined amber filter and a synthetic-paper hood. These are part of the standalone transilluminator package, not upgrades you must add just to obtain the listed viewing accessories.

Use the hood as part of your chosen viewing or separately equipped capture setup. A phone, camera and gel documentation system are separate equipment, so you can choose a capture arrangement that matches your laboratory.

  • MBE-200A transilluminator: BluView flat-bed blue LED illumination unit with a 153 × 153 mm viewing area.
  • 580 nm amber filter: MBE-LID-AM580 inclined viewing filter, physically separate from the body and included with the set.
  • Synthetic-paper hood: MBE-HOOD viewing hood.

Build toward documented imaging options

Major Science documents the MBE-200A as a blue-light option for the DI-01 Digimage System. This provides a route from direct viewing to a separately configured camera-equipped capture station.

Choose the imaging system and appropriate camera filter separately for the work you plan to capture. The standalone MBE-200A supplies the illumination; it does not include a camera, monitor or analysis software.

Make a focused choice for blue-light work

Choose the MBE-200A when your priority is compact blue-light gel viewing. Its 153 × 153 mm area, lightweight construction and included amber filter provide a focused setup for compatible fluorescent gels.

The unit operates from DC 12 V, 2 A and shuts down automatically after approximately six minutes. If you also need a separate white-light viewing surface, the dual-sided MBE-200BW is the model to compare.

Viewing now, capture when you need it

The supplied paper hood can form part of a separately equipped phone-viewing or capture arrangement. It does not turn MBE-200A into a camera or band-analysis system.

For a documented camera-equipped setup, select a separate DI-01 Digimage system and suitable camera filter.

Which Major Science viewing format do I need?

Choose by illuminated area and the type of light your sample requires. MBE-200A and MBE-200BW share the larger square field; MBE-300 is the smaller blue-light format. No field-size comparison guarantees tank or stain compatibility.

Choose the illuminated area; MBE-300: 112 × 74.6 mm · blue light. MBE-200A: 153 × 153 mm · blue light. MBE-200BW: 153 × 153 mm · blue / white light

A practical bench check

Check the gel or film size against the illuminated area, then match the stain and filter to the selected light source. Account for the approximately six-minute automatic shutdown when planning observations or capture.

Use the manufacturer operating instructions and appropriate laboratory filtering and safety procedures. Blue illumination is not a blanket assurance that protective measures are unnecessary.

MBE-200A buyer questions

What is the MBE-200A viewing area versus its body size?

The illuminated viewing area is 153 × 153 mm. The outer instrument body is approximately 200 × 200 × 13.9 mm, so use the smaller dimensions when checking whether your gel fits the viewing surface.

Which light source does MBE-200A use?

It uses a 15 W blue LED source with a specified wavelength of 470 nm. This model is a blue-light transilluminator, not a dual blue/white-light unit.

Are the MBE-200A amber filter and hood included?

Yes. The standalone MBE-200A includes the MBE-LID-AM580 inclined 580 nm amber filter and a synthetic-paper hood. The filter is separate from the instrument body.

Will MBE-200A work with my gel stain?

Choose a fluorescent stain with excitation and emission requirements suited to 470 nm blue illumination and amber-filter viewing. Check the stain supplier’s protocol for your assay rather than assuming every gel stain uses the same illumination.

Can I use MBE-200A with a DI-01 Digimage System?

Yes. Major Science documents the MBE-200A with the DI-01 Digimage System. The imaging system and suitable camera filters are separate purchases; select the complete configuration for your sample and stain.

Does MBE-200A include a camera or imaging software?

No camera, monitor or analysis software is part of the listed standalone MBE-200A package. It is an illumination and viewing unit that can form part of a separately equipped capture workflow.

How portable is MBE-200A?

The base weighs approximately 760 g and measures approximately 200 × 200 × 13.9 mm. Its slim aluminum-alloy construction makes it convenient to move between laboratory work areas.

What power does MBE-200A require, and does it shut off automatically?

The specified input is DC 12 V, 2 A. Automatic shutdown occurs after approximately six minutes.
