Monitor silica in water with the reagent family specified for Hanna’s high-range method, rather than substituting a low-range silica kit. HI96770 supplies the three powder components used to develop the color measured by a compatible photometer. On the HI97770, the method covers 0–200 mg/L as SiO₂. That reporting basis matters: an elemental silicon result is not the same number as a silica result. Match the reagent code, method selection and reporting form before comparing readings across your water-treatment records.
Use the exact Silica High Range method on HI97770, HI83305 or HI83399. This is HI96770—not HI93705 low-range silica and not HI93735 hardness. Instruments, cuvettes and calibration standards are separate.
The HI97770 procedure starts with 10 mL of unreacted sample, used to zero the meter. Add one packet of HI96770A-0 and dissolve it fully, then one packet of HI96770B-0 and dissolve again. Allow the specified 10-minute stage before adding one packet of HI96770C-0. After dissolving C, follow the final 2-minute countdown before reading. Keeping the packets in A/B/C order and allowing complete dissolution helps make the chemistry repeatable; the full instrument manual, not this overview, governs operation.
The exact HI97770 manual specifies 0–200 mg/L as SiO₂ and allows the displayed chemical form to be changed to silicon, Si. Record which form you used; do not relabel a numerical SiO₂ result as Si. The high-range method has its own reagent set and must not be treated as a continuation of the HI93705 low-range assay. For a different instrument, select its listed Silica High Range program and follow that model’s timing and instructions.
The HI97770 manual warns that phosphate can reduce the reading, with specified effects above 60 and 75 mg/L; sulfide and high iron concentrations can also interfere. Zeroing with the original sample addresses sample color and turbidity within the prescribed procedure, but does not remove every chemical interference. Choose a pack size around expected testing and quality-control consumption, and keep enough complete A/B/C sets available. Do not combine a missing component with an unrelated silica reagent.
Read the individual US Safety Data Sheets for A, B and C before use. Keep the components clearly identified and separated from incompatible materials; the B and C sheets call for sealed original containers, ventilation and protection from direct sunlight. Use the protective equipment and disposal procedures specified by your laboratory and the component SDS. Hanna classifies both offered packs as Dangerous Goods and explicitly limits those products to ground shipping; no air-shipping permission is implied.
The HI97770 method range is 0–200 mg/L as silica, SiO₂. Its Chemical Form setting can show silicon, Si, instead. These are different numerical reporting bases, so retain the displayed form with the result and do not simply change the unit label.
No. HI96770 is the high-range A/B/C powder family. HI93705 is a different low-range silica reagent family. Use only the exact reagent set named by the selected method; HI93735 is a hardness family and is also unrelated.
Current manufacturer manuals list HI96770 for HI97770, HI83305 and HI83399. Choose Silica High Range and use the instructions for your particular model. This listing does not establish compatibility with every Hanna multiparameter instrument.
The HI97770 method uses a 10 mL sample and one packet each of HI96770A-0, HI96770B-0 and HI96770C-0. Those are method quantities, not a claim that a complete meter, cuvette or calibration standard is included.
On HI97770, the manual specifies 10 minutes after reagents A and B and a further 2 minutes after reagent C before measurement. Follow the instrument countdown and complete dissolution instructions; do not shorten the sequence to speed up a run.
Yes. The HI97770 manual identifies phosphate, sulfide and high iron as potential interferences. It specifies an approximately 2% reading reduction above 60 mg/L phosphate and 11% above 75 mg/L. Zero with the original sample as directed for color and turbidity, and consult the full interference guidance for the matrix.
Select the nominal test capacity that fits your workload while allowing for blanks, checks or repeat analyses in your own procedure. The two ordering options use the same HI96770 chemistry; they do not change the instrument’s analytical range or replace its calibration requirements.
The Manuals/Brochures tab links the exact HI97770 method manual, supporting instrument manuals and all three US component SDS PDFs. Read each component sheet for protection, storage and disposal. Hanna identifies the offered packs as Dangerous Goods and states ground shipping only; printed dates in the factory photograph are illustrative.
