HANNA PHOTOMETER REAGENTS · HI93730
Three reagents. One matched molybdenum method.
Keep the A, B and C chemistry together when replenishing your HI97730. These reagent-only packs support molybdenum measurements in water samples without requiring you to prepare the method reagents from bulk chemicals.
Choose HI93730-01 for 100 tests or HI93730-03 for 300 tests. Pack size changes your test supply, not the method or measurement range.
Manufacturer reference packaging. Printed lot and expiration dates are illustrative, not the dates of supplied stock.
Check the meter, method and reporting basis
Primary reference: HI97730 — 0.0 to 40.0 mg/L as Mo⁶⁺. Both packs are also documented for HI83300, HI83305, HI83306, HI83308, HI83399. Select the matching method in your exact instrument manual; do not assume every Hanna photometer uses these reagents.
What the chemistry measures
The mercaptoacetic acid method develops a yellow response that the compatible photometer measures. The HI97730 reports molybdenum as Mo⁶⁺; its Chemical Form function can convert the display to molybdate (MoO₄²⁻) or sodium molybdate (Na₂MoO₄). Those converted forms should not be mistaken for the primary molybdenum range.
What arrives — and what stays separate
The selected complete reagent set supplies A, B and C chemistry for the stated test count; it is not a pack of a single component.
The photometer, cuvettes, stoppers, caps, graduated sample-preparation glassware and dispensing accessories are not included. CAL Check standards are separate instrument-verification products, not reagents for reacting with a water sample.
The HI97730 workflow at a glance
Zero the HI97730 using 10 mL of unreacted sample in a clean, capped cuvette. In a graduated mixing cylinder, measure 25 mL of sample. Add one packet of HI93730A-0 and invert until dissolved; repeat with one packet of HI93730B-0. Add one packet of HI93730C-0 and shake vigorously. Transfer 10 mL of the reacted sample to an empty cuvette, stopper and cap it, align it in the meter and use the 5-minute Read countdown.
Use the linked method manual for the full procedure and temperature guidance. Keep cuvette exteriors clean and dry, avoid bubbles and maintain the specified alignment in the holder.
Water samples: check the matrix before relying on a result
Nitrite must be absent. The HI97730 manual lists potential interference from chromium above 1000 mg/L, sulfate above 200 mg/L, aluminum, iron or nickel above 50 mg/L, and copper above 10 mg/L. Strongly buffered samples or extreme pH can exceed the reagent buffering capacity.
This is not a universal seawater, brine or high-interference-matrix claim. Confirm the sample composition against the exact instrument method before testing; a larger pack does not overcome an interference.
Choose a test supply you can use
HI93730-01 is the 100-test refill; HI93730-03 is the 300-test refill for a larger sampling workload. Each order quantity is one complete selected pack, not one test. Check the lot and expiration markings on the supplied packets and plan consumption accordingly.
Handling and shipping
Read all three US SDS before use: the components have different hazards, including an oxidizing reagent B. Use the protection, storage segregation and disposal procedures specified for each component. Avoid dust exposure and keep the reagents away from incompatible materials.
Hanna classifies these packs as Dangerous Goods for ground shipment only. Review the component SDS before ordering and using the set; the brief workflow above is not a substitute for the complete safety documents.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I choose the 100- or 300-test pack?
HI93730-01 supplies reagent for 100 tests; HI93730-03 supplies reagent for 300 tests. Choose by expected workload and marked expiration dates. Both are complete method reagent sets, and neither changes the analytical range.
Do I need all three molybdenum components?
Yes. The HI97730 procedure calls for one packet each of HI93730A-0, HI93730B-0 and HI93730C-0 per determination. These are complete reagent-set options, not individual A-, B- or C-only refills.
Is the displayed result molybdenum or molybdate?
The primary HI97730 range is 0.0 to 40.0 mg/L as molybdenum (Mo⁶⁺). Chemical Form can convert to molybdate or sodium molybdate. Match the reporting basis required by your sampling program; the converted display is not the same numeric scale.
Why does the procedure need a mixing cylinder?
The reaction is prepared in 25 mL of sample in a graduated mixing cylinder, while the cuvette reading uses 10 mL. Zero with a separate 10 mL portion of unreacted sample. Do not add the three packets directly to a 10 mL sample and assume the method is unchanged.
How do the additions and countdown work?
Dissolve A by inversion, then dissolve B by inversion. Add C and shake vigorously. Read 10 mL of reacted sample using the HI97730 5-minute countdown. The manual gives temperature guidance and the complete measurement sequence.
Which instruments are documented for HI93730?
Both packs are documented for HI83300, HI83305, HI83306, HI83308, HI83399, HI97730. The procedure and range summarized here are for HI97730; use the matching method and full manual for another named instrument.
Can I use it in any water matrix?
Nitrite must be absent. The HI97730 manual lists potential interference from chromium above 1000 mg/L, sulfate above 200 mg/L, aluminum, iron or nickel above 50 mg/L, and copper above 10 mg/L. Strongly buffered samples or extreme pH can exceed the reagent buffering capacity. Validate the matrix against the method rather than assuming seawater or brine compatibility.
Does my order include the meter, cuvettes or standards?
No. This is a complete reagent set only, in the selected 100- or 300-test size. Supply the compatible meter, cuvettes with stoppers and caps, preparation and dispensing accessories separately. CAL Check standards are also separate and cannot replace sample reagents.
