Choose the scale for the sample

Read salinity, chlorinity, specific gravity and refractive index with a portable digital seawater instrument.

Choose the scale for the sample

The MDX-202 puts four seawater-related outputs in one instrument: salinity, chlorinity, specific gravity and refractive index. For aquatic and aquaculture workflows, choose the scale requested by the monitoring procedure before reading; a chlorinity value and a total-salinity value are not the same output. Record the selected scale with the result so a later comparison uses the same units.

A repeatable small-sample reading sequence

The matching manual calls for a daily zero check with clean distilled water, a clean dry sample well and a closed prism cover. For a reading, place 4–5 drops in the well, close the cover and press READ. The instrument supports individual readings and a 15-reading continuous loop. Allow a sample at a different temperature to acclimate as described in the manual; automatic temperature compensation is not a reason to skip that step.

Prepare the instrument for the next sample

The stainless-steel prism well and removable grip/cover support access between readings. Follow the model manual’s care instructions, especially after corrosive or acidic samples, and avoid getting sample on the plastic housing. The detecting unit is rated IP67 and the remainder IP65; keep those two ratings distinct rather than describing the whole device as suitable for immersion. A hard-shell protective case, disposable pipet, AAA battery and manual accompany the instrument.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which model is supplied?

MDX-202; the application scales are listed in the specification table. Manufacturer family photographs may show illustrative screen values.

What is the main application scale?

Salinity: 0–100 ppt; resolution 1 ppt; accuracy ±2 ppt.

Does it have refractive index?

Yes, 1.3330–1.4200 nD. Resolution is 0.0001 nD and stated accuracy is ±0.0003 nD.

How is it zeroed?

Use clean distilled water and the ZERO sequence in the matching manual, with the prism cover closed. The manual recommends a daily zero check.

Can it take repeated readings?

Yes. It supports single readings and a 15-reading continuous loop.

Is the entire instrument IP67?

No. The detecting unit is IP67; the remainder is IP65. Follow the manual for care and exposure limits.

What comes with the instrument?

A rubber grip and prism cover, hard-shell protective case, disposable pipet, AAA battery and instruction manual.
