The STX-3 combines a 0–100 ppt salinity scale with a 1.000–1.070 seawater-specific-gravity scale. Keep the chosen scale with every recorded number: parts per thousand and specific gravity are not the same unit. It is a focused choice when those seawater-related readings match your method, rather than a general-purpose high-concentration salt instrument.

Designed for an optical reading

A high-contrast scale is viewed through the eyepiece, while the optical-glass prism is supported by a metal housing. The rubber grip helps limit hand-heat transfer and the non-roll feature supports stable placement on a flat bench. The supplied case keeps the instrument and small accessories together between sample checks.

Automatic temperature compensation operates over 10–30°C with readings referenced to 20°C. That is a defined compensation range, not permission to disregard sample equilibration or calibration checks.
