APERA INSTRUMENTS / EC60 / AI314

Read the conductivity.
Keep the conversions clear.

The EC60 brings conductivity, calculated TDS, calculated salinity and temperature into a replaceable-probe pocket tester. Automatic calibration, a backlit display and supplied conductivity standards make it a practical kit for routine solution checks.

Choose AI314 when you want EC-based measurements without a separate pH sensor. Its 10-ppt salinity ceiling is suited to low-salinity work, not typical full-strength seawater.

Open the case. Know what is included.

The AI314 standard kit supplies the EC60 and its EC60-E / AI1209 probe, with the checking or calibration supplies appropriate to this model.

EC60 tester with EC60-E probe and cap, 1413 µS/cm and 12.88 mS/cm standards, two calibration vials, four AAA batteries, lanyard and carrying case.

The 84 µS/cm calibration point is available with a separately purchased standard. pH buffers and KCl pH-electrode storage solution are not listed as EC60 kit inclusions.

MATCH THE MEASUREMENT TO THE QUESTION

Where EC60 fits your work.

Hydroponic solutions

Read EC directly or TDS using a documented conversion factor. Keep the factor consistent with the procedure or ppm scale you are following.

Water-treatment trends

Compare suitable aqueous samples with consistent calibration and compensation settings. Conductivity does not identify each dissolved substance or prove drinking-water safety.

Low-salinity water

Use the calculated salinity value only within 0-10.00 ppt. Typical seawater is above this range; choose an appropriate higher-range instrument for that application.

One conductivity measurement. Three useful readouts.

EC is the sensor measurement; TDS and salinity are calculated from it. The TDS factor is adjustable from 0.40 to 1.00, with a default of 0.71. The documented salinity factor is a fixed linear 0.5, not a selectable seawater algorithm.

The installed EC60-E is a replaceable Brush-Resistant Platinum Black conductivity probe with temperature sensing. It is not a pH glass electrode or an ORP probe. Keep its conductivity-sensor care distinct from the combo probe on PC60.

Apera EC60 standard probe sensing area
The EC60-E / AI1209 is replaceable. Follow its own cleaning and conditioning instructions.

A clear routine, from setup to care.

01

Calibrate conductivity first

Use 1413 µS/cm and 12.88 mS/cm as appropriate for the sample range. The meter also recognizes 84 µS/cm, which is a separate standard. Conductivity calibration carries through to calculated TDS and salinity.

02

Choose the readout and factor

Select EC, TDS or salinity. Document the TDS factor and temperature-coefficient settings so repeated measurements use a consistent basis.

03

Rinse and protect the sensor

Rinse between samples and keep the sensing pins clean without rubbing away their platinum-black coating. Follow the EC60 conductivity-only probe instructions; do not copy PC60 or pH-electrode KCl immersion routines.

Apera Instruments EC60 Premium Pocket Tester (EC/TDS/Salinity/Temp) · Apera Instruments

Keep EC, TDS and salinity in context.

A TDS factor of 0.71 turns 1000 µS/cm into 710 ppm. A different selected factor gives a different TDS number for the same conductivity. Salinity uses its documented fixed linear conversion, not a user-selected seawater algorithm.

Conductivity accuracy is specified at ±1% full scale. Do not transfer that into an unsupported independent accuracy claim for every calculated TDS or salinity composition.

Which premium pocket tester do I need?

EC60 · EC-based checks

Conductivity and temperature, with calculated TDS and low-range salinity. No pH or ORP measurement.

PC60 · Add pH

A replaceable pH/EC/temperature combo probe with calculated TDS and salinity. No verified ORP mode on non-Z PC60.

ORP60 · Read redox

A dedicated platinum ORP tester with temperature display. Not a pH or chlorine-concentration meter.

EC60 buyer questions

What comes in EC60 AI314?

The standard kit includes EC60 with EC60-E probe and cap, 1413 µS/cm and 12.88 mS/cm standards, two vials, four AAA batteries, lanyard and carrying case. The 84 µS/cm standard is separate.

What does EC60 measure?

EC60 measures conductivity and temperature, and calculates TDS and salinity from conductivity. It does not measure pH or ORP.

What are its conductivity range and accuracy?

The overall EC range is 0-20.00 mS/cm. Resolution is range-dependent: 0.1 or 1 µS/cm and 0.01 mS/cm. The specified EC accuracy is ±1% F.S., meaning full scale rather than percent of every reading.

How does the TDS factor work?

The linear TDS conversion factor adjusts from 0.40 to 1.00 and defaults to 0.71. At a factor of 0.71, 1000 µS/cm corresponds to 710 ppm TDS. This is a conductivity conversion, not an independent chemical analysis.

Can EC60 test seawater salinity?

Not typical full-strength seawater. EC60 salinity is limited to 0-10.00 ppt, while typical seawater is around 35 ppt. Its fixed linear salinity conversion is not a selectable practical-salinity or seawater algorithm.

Which standards calibrate EC60?

It supports automatic 1-3 point conductivity calibration using recognized 84 µS/cm, 1413 µS/cm and 12.88 mS/cm standards. The kit supplies the latter two; choose additional standards for the expected sample range.

Is the EC60 probe replaceable?

Yes. The standard replacement is EC60-E, catalog AI1209. It combines BPB conductivity sensing and temperature sensing; use the specified replacement and recalibrate after installation.

How do I care for EC60?

Rinse before and after samples, protect the sensing pins and follow the conductivity-only manual’s capped storage routine. The linked English regional manual describes water in the EC60 cap; that instruction must not be transferred to PC60’s combined glass/EC probe or to ORP60.

Choose the measurement. Confirm the kit.

Review the EC60 specifications and supplied parts, then return to the price and ordering controls. Blue Tiger Scientific can help compare the measurement, sensor and care requirements for your application.
