Three volume ranges, a place to keep them and reservoirs to start
Setting up a new bench, teaching space or small liquid-handling station usually means sourcing pipettes, a stand and consumables separately, then checking that the pieces suit each other. The Heathrow Scientific 120554 Pipette Starter Kit brings those first purchases together: three single-channel Pearl® pipettes covering 2 µL to 1,000 µL, a Universal Carousel Pipette Stand to hold them, and five sterile 50/55 mL reagent reservoirs.

What arrives in one kit
- 1 single-channel Pearl® pipette, 2–20 µL
- 1 single-channel Pearl® pipette, 20–200 µL
- 1 single-channel Pearl® pipette, 100–1,000 µL
- 1 Universal Carousel Pipette Stand, assorted colors
- 5 sterile reagent reservoirs, 50/55 mL
Pipette tips are not listed among the kit contents. Plan your tip supply separately and confirm compatibility with Blue Tiger Scientific before you order.
How the three ranges fit together
The three pipettes step up by roughly a factor of ten, so most routine volumes between 2 µL and 1 mL fall within at least one of them. The 20–200 µL and 100–1,000 µL ranges also overlap between 100 and 200 µL, which gives you a choice of instrument for volumes in that band.
Original diagram on a logarithmic scale. Each bar shows a pipette’s published adjustable range; it does not represent accuracy or precision.
As general good practice, choose the smallest-range pipette that covers the volume you need. Each pipette works only within its own range: the kit as a whole spans 2 µL to 1,000 µL, but no single pipette does.
Pearl® pipettes: what Heathrow specifies
Heathrow designs the Pearl pipettes around reduced plunger pressure. It states that they need about two-thirds of the operating pressure of most standard pipettes, aimed at lowering the risk of repetitive strain during long pipetting sessions. Other published features:
-
Calibration: each pipette is tested and supplied with a calibration certificate.
-
Manufacture: made in accordance with ISO 8655, and listed by Heathrow as CE and UKCA marked.
-
Color coding: Heathrow’s sell sheet lists the kit pipettes as light purple (2–20 µL), yellow (20–200 µL) and blue (100–1,000 µL), which makes the ranges quick to tell apart.
-
Construction: internal metal parts, intended to support accuracy and calibration stability.
-
Volume setting: a large digital volume display, plus a locking tab to prevent accidental changes.
-
Tip ejection: a separate tip ejector.
Heathrow’s kit listing and sell sheet do not publish accuracy and precision figures or a list of compatible tip brands. If your work requires those values, ask Blue Tiger Scientific for the applicable documentation before ordering.
A stand with room beyond this kit
The Universal Carousel Pipette Stand holds up to eight single-channel pipettes, four multichannel pipettes, or a combination of both. The three kit pipettes occupy part of that capacity, so there is room to keep other pipettes from the same bench in one place.
Designed for one-handed access
Heathrow describes a weighted base that lets you remove and replace a pipette with one hand, a rotating head for bringing the pipette you need to the front, and a grip handle for moving the stand with the pipettes still in place.
Built to accept different pipettes
Modular upper inserts accommodate different pipette widths, and Heathrow describes the stand as holding virtually every known pipette brand. That is a design intent, not a guarantee for every model. If you plan to add pipettes from another manufacturer, confirm fit with Blue Tiger Scientific first.
Plan for its height
Heathrow’s kit sell sheet gives the stand a 15.8 cm (6.2 in) base, a 22.9 cm (9 in) top and a 40.8 cm (16.1 in) height. It lists a clear lower holder and an assorted-color upper holder. Check the clearance under any shelf above the bench, and leave room to lift pipettes out of the upper holders.
Five sterile reservoirs for multichannel work
The kit includes five sterile reagent reservoirs, made of white polystyrene and measuring 14.5 × 8.5 × 2.5 cm (5.70 × 3.34 × 0.98 in). Heathrow gives their volume as 50 mL on its kit page and 55 mL on its sell sheet, which is why this page describes them as 50/55 mL. The kit listing highlights thicker walls, crush-resistant turrets at the corners, pour spouts, 25 mL graduation marks and tabs that stop stacked reservoirs from sticking together. Five reservoirs are a starting supply, so plan how you will replenish them if you use reservoirs routinely.
For work that does not require sterile reservoirs, Blue Tiger Scientific also carries Heathrow non-sterile reagent reservoirs. Those are a separate product, not a refill pack for this kit.
Ordering this kit
120554 is supplied as 1 Each: one complete kit containing the three pipettes, one stand and five reservoirs listed above. If you mainly need somewhere to store pipettes you already own, consider a stand such as the Heathrow pipette workstation instead of a full kit.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is included in the 120554 kit?
Three single-channel Pearl pipettes (2–20 µL, 20–200 µL and 100–1,000 µL), one Universal Carousel Pipette Stand in assorted colors, and five sterile 50/55 mL reagent reservoirs. Pipette tips are not listed as included.
What volume range does the kit cover?
Together, the three pipettes cover 2 µL to 1,000 µL. Each one adjusts only within its own range, and the 20–200 µL and 100–1,000 µL models overlap between 100 and 200 µL.
Are the pipettes calibrated?
Heathrow states that each pipette is tested and supplied with a calibration certificate, and that the pipettes are made in accordance with ISO 8655. Plan recalibration according to your own quality procedures.
Which pipette tips do the Pearl pipettes use?
Heathrow’s kit listing and sell sheet do not name compatible tips. Ask Blue Tiger Scientific to confirm a suitable tip before you order, so you do not have to rely on a generic fit assumption.
Can I store other pipettes on the stand?
The carousel holds up to eight single-channel pipettes, four multichannel pipettes or a mix of both. It has modular inserts for different pipette widths and is designed for most major brands, but confirm the fit for a specific model.
How tall is the carousel stand?
Heathrow’s sell sheet gives a height of 40.8 cm (16.1 in), with a 15.8 cm base and a 22.9 cm top. Allow extra clearance to lift pipettes out.
Can any part of the kit be autoclaved?
Heathrow’s kit listing shows an autoclavable symbol but does not say which components it applies to or give cycle conditions. Confirm the cleaning method for each component with Blue Tiger Scientific before using heat.
What does one order unit supply?
One complete 120554 kit. The manufacturer lists the order quantity as 1 Each.
