Bent glass rods need an ethanol dip and a pass through the flame between every plate, and one slip means a fire on the bench. MTC Bio sterile disposable spreaders come ready to use. Spread the plate, discard the spreader, and move on.

L-Shape and T-Shape Spreaders
The L-shape is the original spreader. Its shape lets you rotate it easily around an entire round plate, and a slight upward curve at the edge keeps it from dragging or scraping.
The T-shape applies even pressure across its full 34 mm spreading surface, which helps liquid disperse uniformly for accurate CFU counts. Both are ABS, sterile, and available in peel bags of 10 or individually wrapped.
Triangle Spreaders with a Grooved Handle
Triangle spreaders are made of polypropylene with a grooved handle for a secure grip and easy orientation. They are widely used for CFU counts.
Choose the standard 30 mm span (M5451) or the extra-large 60 mm span (M5441) to cover a plate in fewer passes. Both come 10 per sterile bag, 100 per pack.

Tip for Even Spread Plates
Pipette 50 to 200 µL onto the center of a dry agar plate, then spread while turning the plate until the surface looks dull and the liquid has absorbed. Let plates sit upright for a few minutes before inverting. Pick colonies with our sterile inoculating loops and needles, and collect samples in Flip 'n Fold™ sterile sampling bags.

Are MTC Bio spreaders a good alternative to Fisherbrand™ or Copan cell spreaders?
Yes, for most applications. They are sterile, single-use spreaders with smooth, rounded edges in L-shape, T-shape, and two triangle sizes. Fisherbrand™ and Copan are trademarks of their respective owners; Blue Tiger Scientific is not affiliated.
Which shape should I choose?
The L-shape is the all-purpose choice and is easy to rotate around a round plate. The T-shape gives even pressure for CFU counts. Triangles have a grooved handle, and the 60 mm XL size covers large plates faster.
Are the spreaders sterile?
Yes. All MTC Bio spreaders are supplied sterile, either in peel bags of 10 or individually wrapped (L- and T-shapes), or in sterile bags of 10 (triangles).
What are they made of?
L- and T-shape spreaders are ABS. Triangle spreaders are polypropylene.
Can I reuse or autoclave them?
They are designed for single use. Discard them in a biohazard bin after spreading, which removes the risk of carryover between plates.
What is the difference between M5420 and M5421?
Both are the same L-shape spreader, 500 per pack. M5421 comes in sterile peel bags of 10, and M5420 is individually wrapped. The T-shape follows the same pattern (M5431 and M5430).
