When 1.5 mL is too small and 15 mL is overkill, the MacroTube® Vivid™ 5 mL tube is the right size. It brings the conveniences of a 15 mL conical tube, including a screw cap, conical bottom, and printed graduations, to a smaller format that uses less plastic, less freezer space, and less reagent.

Ultra-clear polypropylene tubes are usable from −86 °C to 110 °C and can be centrifuged at up to 25,000 × g*. Each case ships sterile with caps attached in foam racks that take up about 60% less storage space than 15 mL tube racks.

Are MacroTube® Vivid™ tubes a good alternative to Eppendorf® 5.0 mL tubes?

Yes, for most applications. MacroTube® Vivid™ tubes are 5 mL sterile screw-cap tubes with dual printed graduations, rated to 25,000 × g and −86 °C to 110 °C, and they come racked with caps attached. Confirm fit in your specific rotor or adapter. Eppendorf® is a trademark of its respective owner; Blue Tiger Scientific is not affiliated.

Why use a 5 mL tube instead of a 15 mL conical?

For samples between 2 and 5 mL, a 5 mL tube uses less plastic and less freezer space, and it makes pellets easier to see and recover. MacroTube® racks take about 60% less storage space than 15 mL tube racks.

Can 5 mL MacroTubes® be used in a 15 mL rotor?

Yes. The C2570 adapter seats a 5 mL tube in a standard 15 mL rotor cavity.

What temperatures can MacroTubes® handle?

Are the tubes sterile?

It depends on the version. C2545, C2540, C2540-OB, C2535, and C2520 are supplied sterile; C2545 tubes are gamma sterilized and certified RNase-, DNase-, and pyrogen-free. The C2500 snap-cap tubes (natural and tinted) and C2530 screw-cap tubes with caps packed separately are non-sterile.

What is the difference between snap-cap and screw-cap MacroTubes®?

Snap-cap tubes (C2500 series and C2520) have an attached flip-top cap you can open with one hand and come 200/pk, natural or in blue, green, red, yellow, black, or assorted tints for color coding. Screw-cap tubes (C2530, C2535, C2540, C2545) ship 500/cs and give the most secure closure for boiling and long-term storage. If you boil snap-cap tubes, secure the caps with C2586 CapLock™ clips.

What is the C2595-7 7 mL tube?

C2595-7 is a 7 mL polypropylene culture/centrifuge tube with an attached cap, 15 × 60 mm, 200/pk. It is not a MacroTube® and is slightly narrower and longer, so confirm fit before using it in MacroTube® racks, boxes, or adapters.
