Frequently Asked Questions
Are these complete vessels or caps?
These are complete Jumbo flasks with vented screw caps. F4086 contains six 2.8 L flasks per case; F4087 contains four 5.0 L flasks per case.
What material and base do the Jumbo flasks use?
Both are styrene/butadiene with baffled, ribbed bottoms. They are not the polycarbonate or PETG material options offered in the smaller Erlenmeyer range.
Are these supplied sterile?
Yes. MTC Bio states individual wrapping and gamma sterilization to SAL 10⁻⁶. The manufacturer also states RNase-, DNase-, pyrogen-, endotoxin- and human-DNA-free.
Which replacement filtered cap fits the Jumbo flasks?
F4069 is explicitly listed by MTC Bio for both 2.8 and 5.0 L Jumbo flasks, F4086 and F4087. F4067 and F4068 are for smaller Erlenmeyer sizes and should not be substituted.
Can I autoclave these Jumbo flasks?
No autoclavable claim is established here for styrene/butadiene Jumbo flasks. The manufacturer’s 121°C, 15 psi, 30-minute statement applies to polycarbonate flasks, not these vessels.
How do these compare with Corning Fernbach-design flasks?
Corning 431252 is a 3 L non-baffled polycarbonate Fernbach-design flask, four per case. MTC F4086 is 2.8 L, baffled styrene/butadiene, six per case. Both use vent caps, but material, capacity, geometry and packaging differ. Do not assume identical culture performance, cap interchangeability or shaker fit.
Is the nominal capacity the recommended culture fill?
No. Establish working volume, shaker orbit, speed and aeration for your culture. Nominal capacity alone does not define safe shaking fill or support requirements.
How is stock counted?
Inventory and price are per complete case, not per flask: six vessels for F4086 and four for F4087. Quantity one purchases one case.
