IKA ROTAVISC SBS me-vi HELI COMPLETE • US ORDER 0010013684

Measure viscosity with a method you can repeat, including suitable creams and pastes.

Bring rotational viscosity measurement and controlled vertical spindle travel together. The IKA ROTAVISC SBS me-vi HELI Complete combines the ball-bearing viscometer with a motorized HELISTAND, standard spindles, T-spindles and a PT 100.8 temperature sensor.

Use the standard spindle format for an appropriately specified fluid test, or the T-spindle/HELI arrangement for suitable non-flowing samples. The manufacturer’s 100–40,000,000 mPa·s model range is an overall selection reference, not a promise that every spindle measures every sample throughout that span.

Exact US package 0010013684. The head’s power adapter and motorized stand have separate electrical requirements. This is not a blanket universal-voltage kit. Sample vessels, calibration oil, a temperature-control bath and software are not listed as included.

Is the SBS me-vi HELI package right for your work?

For comparative formulation and QC methods

A useful format when viscosity is evaluated under defined conditions. Specify spindle, speed, temperature, vessel, timing and sample history so results can be compared meaningfully.

For suitable non-flowing samples

IKA identifies the T-spindle/HELISTAND arrangement for creams, pastes and gels. Vertical travel changes the measuring path; it does not make every material Newtonian or remove the need for a validated method.

For frequent spindle changes

The SBS ball-bearing design is intended for robust handling and repeated spindle changes. It still requires correct mounting, leveling, inspection and calibration checks; robustness is not permission to mishandle the shaft.

For a range that suits the actual sample

me-vi is not automatically a better choice than lo-vi for thin liquids. Confirm the sample’s expected behavior, attainable torque and selected spindle range rather than choosing only by the largest viscosity number.

What is included in US order 0010013684?

Manufacturer photograph of SP set-2 standard spindles SP7 through SP12
SP set-2 contains six standard spindles. Each has its own geometry and speed-dependent measuring range; this is not one universal spindle rating.

A factory instrument, stand and spindle package

  • ROTAVISC SBS me-vi control viscometer head.
  • HELISTAND motorized stand.
  • T-SP-SET: six T-spindles, with nut, coupling and carrying case per the set instructions.
  • SP set-2: six standard spindles, SP7, SP8, SP9, SP10, SP11 and SP12.
  • PT 100.8 temperature sensor and guard rail.

The head manual additionally lists the extension arm, mounting hardware, temperature-sensor clamp, power supply, USB cable and documentation. HELISTAND has its own power-cord set. The exact factory package order number remains 0010013684; this is not a merchant-created bundle.

Not listed as supplied: sample beakers or sample material, calibration oils, temperature-control equipment, a software license, coaxial measuring systems, low-volume or very-low-viscosity adapters. A sensor measures temperature; it does not actively heat or cool the sample.

Standard spindles and HELI T-spindles are different methods

Use the right geometry and stand mode

The six standard SP7–SP12 spindles support separately specified rotational tests. Choose the spindle and speed so the expected viscosity produces suitable torque under the applicable vessel and immersion conditions.

For non-flowing samples, the HELISTAND moves the mounted head and T-spindle through the sample. The stand manual says to activate motorized travel only with T-spindles and to use that mode without the ROTAVISC guard rail. The included guard rail is not an instruction to fit it during motorized HELI operation.

For me-vi with T-spindles, the recommended maximum speed is 10 rpm. The head’s general 0.01–200 rpm capability is not a recommendation to run T-spindles at 200 rpm. The T-SP manual also says this set is not recommended for calibration checking.

Spindle travel, sample depth, clearance and the limit-stop positions must be set for the actual vessel. Keep the spindle clear of the vessel walls, bottom and exposed moving parts; follow the stand manual rather than using a headline stroke value as a ready-made method.

Manufacturer photograph of six T-spindles, nut and coupling from T-SP-SET
T-SP-SET is included. Use it with the appropriate HELISTAND setup and recommended speed limits. No sample vessel or temperature-control bath is shown as part of the order.

Accuracy is specified against full scale, not the reading

Illustrative calculation of one percent full-scale accuracy: full scale 10000 gives plus or minus 100, which equals five percent at a reading of 2000
Original arithmetic example only, not an actual test result or complete measurement uncertainty. Spindle and speed determine the full-scale range.

Choose spindle and speed before interpreting the percentage

IKA specifies viscosity accuracy of ±1% of full-scale range (FSR) and repeatability of ±0.2% FSR. These are not the same as ±1% or ±0.2% of every displayed result.

For illustration, a selected full scale of 10,000 mPa·s makes 1% equal to 100 mPa·s. At a reading of 2,000 mPa·s, that same 100 mPa·s is 5% of the reading. This is an explanation of the specification, not a full uncertainty budget or a guaranteed sample result.

The current head manual identifies an optimum torque trend of greater than 10% and less than 100%. Use a suitable spindle/speed combination and the displayed full scale rather than accepting a reading simply because a number appears on the screen.

Temperature, air bubbles, vessel geometry, immersion, time and sample history also affect a method. Non-Newtonian materials may change apparent viscosity with speed and elapsed time; record those conditions instead of treating every result as a single intrinsic material constant.

Temperature measurement, controls and useful records

Keep the method conditions alongside the viscosity result

The 4.3-inch TFT interface provides spindle/speed selection, torque display, timer, graph functions and method-program controls. Digital leveling supports setup. A computer purchase is not required for local measurements.

The included PT 100.8 sensor helps measure sample temperature. The general head temperature-input range is not permission to expose every supplied spindle, seal, cable or vessel to every temperature in that range. Confirm the sensor, sample and setup limits separately.

Use an appropriate external temperature-control arrangement when the method requires one. The package does not supply a bath or establish a direct connection to a particular circulator. Record actual sample temperature; room temperature alone does not prove the sample has equilibrated.

Micro-USB and RS-232 support separately configured data/control workflows described in the manual. No labworldsoft license, validated electronic-recordkeeping compliance or automatic regulatory method approval is implied.

Actual ROTAVISC TFT control panel detail from the manufacturer package photograph
Actual photograph crop. Example values and the displayed torque are illustrative, not a recommendation to accept a test outside the manual’s preferred torque window.

Choose the range and setup, not just the largest number

Selection guide comparing standard spindle tests and motorized HELI T-spindle measurements
Original decision guide. Both sets are included, but they do not share one universal range, speed or calibration procedure.

Standard spindle method

Use the geometry, vessel and immersion conditions appropriate to the selected SP spindle. The head manual’s standard setup references a 600 mL low-form beaker; that is not a supplied beaker or a universal minimum sample volume.

T-spindle HELI method

Use for suitable non-flowing samples under the T-SP and stand instructions. me-vi T-spindle speed is recommended at no more than 10 rpm. Configure travel limits and remove the guard rail for motorized HELI operation.

Another range or geometry

Very thin liquids, small sample volumes or a defined shear-rate method may require another model or optional geometry. No coaxial, ultra-low-viscosity or low-volume system is hidden in this package.

A repeatable setup-to-record workflow

Make every comparison traceable to its test conditions

  • Define the expected material behavior, vessel, temperature, spindle geometry and comparison goal.
  • Install and level the instrument, check the head and stand power requirements, and perform the manual’s setup/self-check steps.
  • Mount the correct spindle and use the appropriate stand mode, guard-rail arrangement, immersion and clearance.
  • Select suitable speed and torque, then use a consistent test time and HELI travel protocol where applicable.
  • Record spindle, speed, torque/full scale, temperature, timing and sample history; clean and inspect as instructed.

For standard-spindle measurements, the head manual describes constant temperature, no bubbles on the spindle, liquid at the spindle-shaft mark and more than 10 mm bottom clearance under its reference setup. These conditions are not automatically a universal protocol for every T-spindle or optional geometry.

Workflow from defining geometry and temperature to leveling, selecting speed and torque and recording method conditions
Original planning overview, not a validated test method. Use the current head, HELISTAND and T-SP manuals for the actual configuration.

US power requirements: head adapter and stand are separate

Viscometer head: 24 V DC from its specified power supply. The head manual lists the adapter input as 100–240 V AC, 50/60 Hz, with 24 W output capacity.

Motorized HELISTAND: the current US component specification lists 100–115 V AC, 50/60 Hz and 7 W. Its separate 220–230 V version is not interchangeable merely because the head adapter accepts a wider supply range.

This listing retains the exact US package code 0010013684. The public package scope names HELISTAND without exposing its component-level order code; do not use the general package adapter figure to call the entire kit universal-voltage. Confirm the supplied stand’s type plate and the available supply before connecting it, and ask Blue Tiger to confirm any component-level packing requirement before shipment.

Calibration checks, care and manufacturer support

Choose the proper calibration-check arrangement, reference oil, temperature, standard spindle and conditions described by IKA. For standard me-vi relative calibration checks, IKA requires the guard rail; this is different from motorized HELI operation, which is performed without it. The T-SP set and motorized HELI mode are not recommended for checking calibration. No calibration oil or calibration certificate is promised in the current listed package scope.

For a cold SBS device, the head manual recommends warming up without a spindle at 10 rpm for ten minutes, then restarting and running the device self-test to support measuring precision and stability. Follow that SBS-specific guidance rather than assuming every startup is already equilibrated. Avoid bending spindles, overloading the stand or using a damaged coupling. Keep sample and cleaning liquid out of the electrical equipment. The stand manual calls for manufacturer service if automatic travel reversal fails; a limit-stop fault is not an invitation to keep running.

The manuals state a 24-month baseline warranty with conditions and exclusions for wear, improper use and inadequate maintenance. Any registration extension depends on IKA’s current exact-model terms; no unconditional single extended period is promised for the head, stand and accessories together. Blue Tiger handles purchases and return requests. IKA handles warranty assessment, technical support, calibration and repairs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in ROTAVISC SBS me-vi HELI Complete 0010013684?

The manufacturer lists the SBS me-vi control head, motorized HELISTAND, T-SP-SET, SP set-2, PT 100.8 and guard rail. SP set-2 has SP7–SP12, and the T-SP set includes six T-spindles with its nut and coupling. Sample vessels, calibration oils, temperature-control equipment and software are not listed as included.

Can I run the included T-spindles at the head’s 200 rpm maximum?

Do not use the general head maximum as a T-spindle method. The T-SP and HELISTAND manuals recommend a maximum 10 rpm for me-vi T-spindle measurements. Motorized HELI travel is for T-spindles only, without the guard rail. The correct speed and travel arrangement remain sample- and method-dependent.

Does ±1% accuracy mean ±1% of my viscosity reading?

No. The specification is ±1% of full-scale range, with repeatability ±0.2% FSR. Spindle and speed determine the selected full scale. For illustration, 1% of a 10,000 mPa·s full scale is 100 mPa·s, equivalent to 5% of a 2,000 mPa·s reading. That example is not complete measurement uncertainty.

Will every included spindle cover 100–40,000,000 mPa·s?

No. That is the overall stated me-vi model range. Each spindle/speed combination has its own full scale and torque suitability. The head manual identifies an optimum torque trend greater than 10% and less than 100%. Very thin samples or special geometries may need another configuration.

Does HELISTAND make creams and pastes behave like Newtonian liquids?

No. HELISTAND moves the rotating T-spindle vertically through suitable non-flowing samples. It does not remove shear dependence, time dependence or the need for a defined sample protocol. Record spindle, speed, temperature, time and travel conditions for meaningful comparisons.

Does the PT 100.8 sensor control sample temperature?

It measures temperature; it is not an active heater or chiller. A separately specified temperature-control arrangement may be needed. The general head input range does not establish a safe temperature limit for every included accessory or sample vessel.

Is the entire US kit universal 100–240 V?

No blanket universal-voltage claim is made. The head uses a 24 V DC supply whose adapter accepts 100–240 V AC. The current US HELISTAND component rating is 100–115 V AC, 50/60 Hz, 7 W. The package page does not expose the stand component order code; retain US package 0010013684 and confirm the actual stand type plate and supply before connection.

Can I use T-spindles and motorized HELI mode to check calibration?

The T-SP and stand manuals do not recommend that arrangement for calibration checking. Use the proper standard spindle, reference oil, temperature and manufacturer check conditions. Reference oils and a calibration certificate are not promised in the current listed scope. Shipping uses a disclosed provisional 35 lb allowance, not manufacturer-measured packed gross.
