The HI88703-11 Turbidity Calibration Standards give laboratories a ready-made way to calibrate and validate turbidity meters working over a 0 to 4000 NTU range. The standards are made from NIST traceable primary reference materials and ship with a certificate of analysis that records the lot number, the reference values and the expiration date, so each calibration can be traced back to the material used.

  • Supplied with a certificate of analysis
  • Standard values of below 0.10, 15.0, 100, 750 and 2000 NTU
  • Reusable, with long shelf life stability

A nephelometric turbidity meter is built to be standardised routinely against a known light-scattering reference. Like any analytical standard, a turbidity standard has to do several jobs at once: provide traceability, demonstrate that results are accurate, calibrate both the instrument and the methodology, monitor operator performance, validate tests and make results comparable. Standardisation is what makes the same analysis of the same material agree with itself whenever it is run.

Hanna prepares its turbidity standards from AMCO AEPA-1 material, which is recognised for stability and reliability in standardisation work. The standard is a suspension of cross-linked styrene divinylbenzene copolymer microbeads held in ultrapure water. The beads are chemically inert and hold their balance in a water medium whatever the concentration, and their particle size, uniform spherical shape and refractive index make them well suited to characterising how light is absorbed and scattered at 90° in the UV-visible range. The shape and size of the beads also work against accumulation and precipitation, which is a large part of why the material stays stable.

The standards are prepared and bottled in a clean room, then tested and validated for accuracy and stability and certified free of toxic chemicals or compounds. Every prepared standard is compared against formazin turbidity standard solutions, and the values obtained along with the date of analysis are reported on the certificate of analysis supplied with the set.

HI88703-11 is a high quality set for validating and calibrating turbidity meters across the 0 to 4000 NTU range. The set holds five cuvettes with expected readings of below 0.10, 15.0, 100, 750 and 2000 NTU, produced in Hanna’s manufacturing facility from NIST traceable reference materials in a temperature controlled environment.

Supplied with Certificate of Analysis

  • Lot number
  • Expiration date
  • Standard value
  • Reference meter NIST traceable

Provided storage containers

  • Light tight
  • Protects from accidental breakage

Checking the turbidity range on a Hanna HI88703 benchtop turbidity meter or a Hanna HI83414 turbidity and chlorine meter is quick and straightforward with the HI88703-11 standards. Replace the set once the expiration date printed on the certificate of analysis has passed.
