Built for routine digestion workloads, the Hanna HI839800-01 COD Reactor is a heavy-duty thermoreactor that will run as many as twenty-five vials in one cycle. Operators get three temperature programs stored at the factory alongside three slots they can define and keep for their own methods.
The stored programs correspond to the following method temperatures:
- 170 ºC (338 ºF) — every COD method
- 150 ºC (302 ºF) — every COD method, plus Iron Total, Phosphorus Acid Hydrolyzable and Phosphorus Total
- 105 ºC (221 ºF) — Chromium and Nitrogen Total
Features at-a-glance
Laboratory safety shield included
The shield supplied with the reactor uses weighted handles so it stays in its protective position for the whole digestion run. Working behind it is strongly advised whenever vials are heating.
Built-in countdown timer
Timed methods can be set anywhere up to 180 minutes. At the end of the interval the reactor sounds five short beeps and shows DONE, then cuts the heat so the block starts cooling on its own.
Status indicator lights
Three LEDs report what the instrument is doing. Green POWER confirms the reactor is switched on. A steady yellow HEATING means the block is still climbing, while a blinking yellow means it is holding a stable temperature. Red HOT warns that the block has passed 50 °C (122 °F) and the aluminium is hot to the touch.
Overheating prevention
A thermal fuse guards against runaway temperature. If the reactor does overheat, the heater shuts itself down and every indicator light goes dark.
Reference temperature probe well
A dedicated well accepts a temperature probe, giving operators a straightforward way to verify what the heating block is actually doing.
Warnings and error messages
The display calls out abnormal conditions and readings that fall outside the expected window — temperature too high or too low, a hot surface, or a fault in the heating system.
Supplied with the reactor
- HI740217 laboratory safety shield
