Choose this refill for nitrate-nitrogen samples expected within 0.0–30.0 mg/L as NO₃-N using the dedicated Nitrate (16) method. Pre-dosed vials reduce preparation steps and one matched packet completes each test.
Nitrate nitrogen is one nitrogen fraction, not total nitrogen. The range as NO₃-N is not numerically the same as nitrate expressed as NO₃. Check your matrix before choosing this method.
50 white-label HI93766V-0 reagent vials and 50 HI93766-0 reagent packets; 50 nominal tests
With the 16 mm adapter, select Nitrate (16). Add 1 mL sample at 45° to a reagent vial, cap and invert 10 times; the vial becomes hot. Zero the same vial, add one packet, cap and invert 10 times, then wait 5 minutes or use the meter timer. Mixing is technique-sensitive; follow the complete instrument manual. No external heated digestion is required.
Provide HI83314 or HI83399, 16 mm adapter, accurate 1 mL measuring device, PPE and suitable chemical waste handling. Where specified for nitrite interference, urea and accurate 10 mL/mass measuring equipment are also needed; urea is not listed in the kit contents.
Chloride above 1000 mg/L, nitrite above 50 mg/L and barium above 1 mg/L can interfere. The manual specifies a urea pretreatment for samples containing up to 100 mg/L nitrite. Do not assume suitability for seawater or high-chloride samples.
Nitrate nitrogen over 0.0–30.0 mg/L as NO₃-N; it is not total nitrogen.
HI83314 and HI83399 with the Nitrate (16) method and 16 mm vial adapter.
50 vials and 50 packets provide 50 nominal tests; QC and repeats use supplies.
No. The sample-containing vial is zeroed before the packet is added.
No external heated digestion is specified. The vial becomes hot during sample mixing, so handle carefully.
Do not assume so: chloride above 1000 mg/L may interfere. Validate the sample matrix.
Nitrite above 50 mg/L may interfere. For samples containing up to 100 mg/L nitrite, the instrument manual specifies adding 400 mg urea to 10 mL of sample and mixing until completely dissolved before proceeding with the usual measurement procedure. Follow the full instrument method.
A compatible photometer, adapter, 1 mL measuring tool, PPE and waste handling; urea and measuring tools if the specified pretreatment is needed.
