Choose the lower ammonia-nitrogen range
For lower-concentration ammonia nitrogen, this 16 mm vial set gives your supported photometer a 0.00–3.00 mg/L as NH₃-N method with 0.01 mg/L resolution.

Select the right method
Choose ammonia LR for the NH₃-N reporting basis and expected range. This is not total nitrogen, nitrate, a direct free-ammonia-only reading or a generic non-vial reagent.
25 tests with the sample vial as zero
The manufacturer identifies 25 HI93764A-0 reagent vials and one bottle of HI93764-0 Nessler reagent. The same sample-containing vial is zeroed before adding Nessler reagent, so no separate blank vial is deducted. QC and repeats use additional reagents.
A direct, unheated method
Select Ammonia LR (16) and fit the 16 mm adapter. Add 5 mL sample to the vial, cap and invert; insert and zero. Add four drops of Nessler reagent, cap and invert, then time 3 minutes 30 seconds and read. No heated digestion is required. Follow the full manual and actual lot instructions.
Consider the sample matrix
Hardness above 1 g/L, iron and sulfide may interfere; organic compounds including acetone above 0.1%, alcohols, aldehydes, amines, chloramines, glycine or urea above 10 mg/L can interfere. The manual specifies distillation to remove organic interference. This is a pretreatment question, not a heated digestion step.
Arrange compatible equipment and safe handling
Use HI83314 or HI83399 with a 16 mm adapter and an accurate 5 mL measuring tool. Nessler reagent contains mercury; review component SDS, use specified PPE and plan appropriate chemical waste disposal. Store unused vials in their packaging in a cool dark place.
Compatibility and responsible handling
The direct 16 mm vial method is documented for HI83314 and HI83399. Confirm your instrument and adapter before ordering. The manufacturer identifies this offer as dangerous goods and says dangerous goods can ship only by ground; confirm destination and carrier restrictions. Follow the current component safety data sheets and the instructions for your actual lot. Photometer, accessories and handling equipment are separate.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the result represent?
Ammonia nitrogen as NH₃-N. This is not a total-nitrogen or nitrate test, and is not a species-selective free NH₃-only reading.
What is the reporting basis for the stated range?
The 0.00–3.00 mg/L range is as NH₃-N. A meter conversion to NH₃ or NH₄⁺ changes the numerical reporting basis.
How many tests are in the pack?
The set is specified for 25 tests. The same sample vial is zeroed before Nessler addition; QC and repeats consume reagents.
Does the method require heated digestion?
No. The vial method has no reactor or digestion step. Distillation may be required as sample pretreatment for specified organic interferences.
What are the preparation steps?
Add 5 mL sample, cap and mix, zero, add four drops Nessler reagent, mix and read after 3 minutes 30 seconds. Follow the instrument manual.
Which meters work with this set?
The HI83314 and HI83399 manuals directly identify this reagent for their Ammonia LR (16) method. A 16 mm adapter is required.
What sample interferences should I check?
Hardness above 1 g/L, iron, sulfide and specified organic compounds may interfere. Consult the manual for treatment and suitability of your matrix.
What safety precautions matter?
The Nessler reagent contains mercury. Review both component SDS and your lot instructions; use required PPE and an appropriate chemical waste process.
