Resolve low-level chromium(VI) with the right refill.
Keep an established HI97749 workflow supplied with pre-measured Hanna powder chemistry. Choose 100 or 300 tests for the same low-range chromium(VI) method, with one packet per determination and no need to replace your photometer.
Official Hanna reference packaging. Printed lot numbers and expiration dates are illustrative, not the dates of supplied stock.
Match the method before the pack size
HI93749-01 and HI93749-03 are the chromium(VI) LOW range reagent family for HI97749: 0 to 300 µg/L as Cr(VI). They are not HI93723 high range chemistry, total-chromium digestion reagents or HI749-25 Checker HC refills.
A defined reaction and reporting basis
The diphenylcarbohydrazide reaction develops a purple tint for photometric measurement of hexavalent chromium. The HI97749 result is expressed in µg/L as Cr(VI), not mg/L and not total chromium. Its Chemical Form menu can convert the display to chromate or dichromate; record the selected reporting basis with your result.
Where this refill fits
A practical refill for water-sample screening when hexavalent chromium is the target and the expected concentration fits the low-range method. It does not determine chromium speciation by itself beyond that method, and it is not a total-metals preparation kit.
Check the matrix before interpreting the color
Use method-appropriate water samples within the expected low range. Iron above 1 mg/L can interfere; mercurous and mercuric ions can slightly inhibit the reaction. For vanadium above 1 mg/L, the HI97749 manual specifies a 10-minute wait before reading instead of the normal six-minute stage. A compatible meter listing is not a universal seawater or high-salinity validation.
What the selected pack supplies
HI93749-01 contains pre-measured HI93749-0 powder reagent for 100 tests; HI93749-03 provides 300 tests. One determination consumes one packet. Test capacity refers to analytical use, not a count of reusable cuvettes or instruments.
What to have ready separately
Have a compatible photometer, clean cuvettes with stoppers and caps, a representative sample and the accessories required by the method. None is included in this reagent refill. CAL Check standards are separate instrument-verification materials, not replacements for the sample reagent.
Run the measurement in sequence
Fill the cuvette with 10 mL of unreacted sample, stopper and cap it, align the cap notch in the holder and zero the HI97749. Remove the cuvette, add one packet of HI93749-0, close it and shake vigorously for about 10 seconds. Return it to the holder and use the six-minute countdown before reading, except where the manual specifies interference treatment. Follow the complete method for handling and timing.
Choose for your testing schedule
Select the 100-test HI93749-01 for smaller sampling workloads or the 300-test HI93749-03 for more frequent use. Include repeat measurements and quality-control work in your planning, and choose a quantity you can use within the expiration date on the supplied lot.
Other documented instrument methods
Exact-model Hanna manuals also list both packs for HI83300, HI83305, HI83306, HI83399. Select the matching chromium(vi) low range method and follow that model’s procedure. The detailed range and workflow above refer to HI97749.
Plan safe handling and shipment
Hanna marks these US chromium(VI) LR packs as Dangerous Goods for ground shipment only. Review the HI93749-0 US SDS for storage, personal protection and disposal, and read the supplied lot labels before use.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which chromium pack should I choose?
HI93749-01 provides 100 tests; HI93749-03 provides 300 tests. Each determination uses one HI93749-0 packet. Both packs have the same chemistry and range; choose the capacity you can use within the supplied lot’s expiry.
Is HI93749 interchangeable with HI93723 or HI749-25?
No. HI93749 is the photometer chromium(VI) low range family documented for HI97749. HI93723 is high range chemistry, and HI749-25 is a Checker HC refill. Match the exact method and catalog number.
What does the chromium result represent?
On HI97749, the range is 0 to 300 µg/L as Cr(VI). This is hexavalent chromium, not a total-chromium result. The Chemical Form menu also offers chromate and dichromate conversions; keep the reporting basis with the result.
How much sample and reagent does one test use?
The HI97749 method uses 10 mL of sample and one HI93749-0 powder packet. Zero with unreacted sample, then add reagent, shake vigorously for about 10 seconds and use the normal six-minute countdown.
When does the normal six-minute wait change?
The manual calls for a 10-minute wait before reading when vanadium exceeds 1 mg/L. Iron above 1 mg/L and mercurous or mercuric ions can also interfere. Use the exact-model interference guidance rather than interpreting every purple response as chromium alone.
Which other instruments document these packs?
Exact-model manuals list both pack sizes for HI83300, HI83305, HI83306 and HI83399. Select their chromium(VI) low range method and follow that instrument’s procedure; the detailed workflow on this page is for HI97749.
Does the pack include a meter, cuvettes or CAL Check standards?
No. This is a reagent refill. The photometer, cuvettes, stoppers, caps and instrument-verification standards are separate. CAL Check standards verify the meter and do not replace sample reagents.
What handling and shipping information applies?
Review the HI93749-0 US Safety Data Sheet and supplied labels for personal protection, storage and disposal. Hanna classifies the US HI93749 packs as Dangerous Goods for ground shipment only. Check the lot and expiration date on the supplied packets.
