Keep trace manganese testing on the right method.
Choose HI93748-01 for 50 tests or HI93748-03 for 150 tests. This mixed powder-and-liquid PAN reagent family replenishes an established manganese low range photometer workflow. The larger pack increases test capacity, not measuring range; these are not 100- or 300-test packs.
Manufacturer’s HI93748-01 reference set photograph shows A/B/C reagents, a dispersant bottle and measuring accessories. It is not a lot-specific packing list; verify supplied contents for the selected pack.
Match the instrument, method and reporting basis
Use with HI97748, or select the Manganese LR method on the dual iron/manganese HI97742. Both manuals specify this A/B/C reagent family and report manganese in µg/L (ppb), from 0 to 300 as Mn. HI97742 Iron LR mode uses HI93746, not HI93748.
PAN chemistry with a prepared blank
An adaptation of the 1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol (PAN) method develops an orange tint. A reacted deionized-water blank and a separately reacted sample are both required; an untreated sample is not the method blank.
Reagent consumption per complete test
HI93748A-0 powder, HI93748B-0 liquid and HI93748C-0 liquid are used across two 10 mL preparations. Each complete determination uses two A packets, 0.40 mL B and 2 mL C in total, plus six drops of HI93703-51 dispersing agent.
Check the dispersant before testing
The manganese method requires HI93703-51: three drops per cuvette, or six drops for a complete determination. Confirm the selected pack’s supplied dispersant and your available stock before testing. The reference photograph illustrates the reagent set; it is not a lot-specific packing list.
Follow the measurement sequence
Prepare 10 mL deionized water in cuvette 1 and 10 mL sample in cuvette 2. Add one A packet to each and dissolve. Add 0.2 mL B to each and invert for about 30 seconds; add 1 mL C to each and shake gently for 15 seconds. Add three drops of dispersant to each and invert for about 30 seconds. Use the two-minute countdown to zero the reacted blank, then read the reacted sample. On HI97742, select Manganese LR first.
Prepare the rest of the setup
Have a compatible photometer, clean cuvettes with caps and stoppers, deionized water and suitable volume-measuring equipment available separately. CAL Check standards verify the instrument; they do not replace sample-reaction reagents. Plan pack use around the supplied lot’s expiration date, repeat measurements and quality-control needs.
Check the sample matrix
Review the manual’s interference limits before using hard water or mixed-metal samples. Examples include calcium above 200 mg/L as CaCO₃, magnesium above 100 mg/L as CaCO₃, iron above 10 mg/L and lead above 0.5 mg/L. Water-sample use does not establish universal seawater suitability or total-metal digestion.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which pack size should I order?
HI93748-01 provides 50 tests; HI93748-03 provides 150 tests. Order quantity 1 for one selected sellable pack. Capacity refers to complete determinations, not the number of individual powder packets or bottles.
Which instrument and mode are verified?
Use with HI97748, or select the Manganese LR method on the dual iron/manganese HI97742. Both manuals specify this A/B/C reagent family and report manganese in µg/L (ppb), from 0 to 300 as Mn. HI97742 Iron LR mode uses HI93746, not HI93748.
What chemistry and units does the method use?
An adaptation of the 1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol (PAN) method develops an orange tint. A reacted deionized-water blank and a separately reacted sample are both required; an untreated sample is not the method blank. The HI97748 method range is 0 to 300 µg/L (ppb) as Mn.
How much reagent is used per determination?
HI93748A-0 powder, HI93748B-0 liquid and HI93748C-0 liquid are used across two 10 mL preparations. Each complete determination uses two A packets, 0.40 mL B and 2 mL C in total, plus six drops of HI93703-51 dispersing agent.
Is dispersing agent needed, and is it included?
The manganese method requires HI93703-51: three drops per cuvette, or six drops for a complete determination. Confirm the selected pack’s supplied dispersant and your available stock before testing. The reference photograph illustrates the reagent set; it is not a lot-specific packing list.
What is the blank and reaction sequence?
Prepare 10 mL deionized water in cuvette 1 and 10 mL sample in cuvette 2. Add one A packet to each and dissolve. Add 0.2 mL B to each and invert for about 30 seconds; add 1 mL C to each and shake gently for 15 seconds. Add three drops of dispersant to each and invert for about 30 seconds. Use the two-minute countdown to zero the reacted blank, then read the reacted sample. On HI97742, select Manganese LR first.
Can other metals or sample salts affect the reading?
Review the manual’s interference limits before using hard water or mixed-metal samples. Examples include calcium above 200 mg/L as CaCO₃, magnesium above 100 mg/L as CaCO₃, iron above 10 mg/L and lead above 0.5 mg/L. Water-sample use does not establish universal seawater suitability or total-metal digestion.
What should I have ready before opening a pack?
Have a compatible photometer, clean cuvettes with caps and stoppers, deionized water and suitable volume-measuring equipment available separately. CAL Check standards verify the instrument; they do not replace sample-reaction reagents. Plan pack use around the supplied lot’s expiration date, repeat measurements and quality-control needs. Review the component-specific US Safety Data Sheets and the instrument method manual before handling or disposal. This listing is reagent replenishment, not a promise that every startup item is supplied.
