Refill the high-range manganese workflow.
Keep the two-component periodate method ready with pre-measured manganese HR powders. Hanna HI93709-01 provides 100 tests and HI93709-03 provides 300 tests for an existing compatible photometer setup. This is high-range manganese chemistry, not the low-range PAN reagent family and not a meter kit.
Official Hanna A/B reference packaging. Printed expiration dates in the photograph are illustrative, not the expiration dates of supplied stock.
Fit for the HI97709 method
The verified HI97709 procedure covers 0.0 to 20.0 mg/L as Mn and directly specifies the HI93709-01 and HI93709-03 packs. Both sizes use the same A/B sequence. These are instrument-specific range and procedure claims, not a universal range for every Hanna benchtop photometer.
What the refill supplies
Each selected pack supplies HI93709A-0 Manganese HR Reagent A and HI93709B-0 Manganese HR Reagent B for 100 or 300 complete determinations. One test uses one packet of each component. Order quantity 1 for one sellable pack; the test count is not the number of individual powder packets.
How the chemistry works
The HI97709 method adapts the periodate method in Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater, 18th edition. The reaction develops a violet tint associated with manganese concentration. Match both the high-range reagent code and method before restocking: HI93748 low-range PAN chemistry is not interchangeable.
Choose a pack for your testing schedule
Choose 100 tests for a smaller replenishment or 300 for routine analysis. Account for repeats and quality-control work, then select a capacity that fits your use before expiration. Keep both powder components available: extra A alone or extra B alone does not provide a complete test.
Prepare the equipment separately
Have the HI97709 photometer and its suitable clean cuvette, stopper and cap available separately. Keep the cuvette exterior clean and align its cap notch with the holder groove. The refill does not include the meter, cuvettes or CAL Check standards. Verification standards do not replace the A/B sample reaction.
Follow the measurement sequence
Fill a clean cuvette with 10 mL of unreacted sample, cap it and zero the HI97709. Remove it, add one A packet, replace the stopper and cap, and shake gently for 2 minutes. Add one B packet and shake gently for another 2 minutes. Reinsert the cuvette and use the 1-minute-30-second countdown before measurement. Follow the complete manual or meter tutorial.
Check the sample matrix
The HI97709 manual lists potential interference from magnesium above 100000 mg/L, chloride above 70000 mg/L, calcium above 700 mg/L and iron above 5 mg/L. Compare the sample matrix with these limits before interpreting a result. Those individual thresholds are not a blanket guarantee for seawater, mixed-metal solutions or samples requiring digestion.
Shipping and safe handling
The manufacturer identifies both pack sizes as Dangerous Goods, restricted to ground shipment. Review every component-specific US SDS and the supplied labeling before handling, storage or disposal. Manufacturer website availability is not a verified dispatch date or a promise of physical stock.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the two pack sizes?
HI93709-01 supplies 100 complete manganese HR tests; HI93709-03 supplies 300. Each test consumes one packet each of reagent A and reagent B. Both sizes use the same periodate chemistry.
Is this the low-range PAN reagent?
No. HI93709 is the high-range manganese periodate family. The HI93748 low-range PAN method uses different reagents and preparation. Do not substitute based only on the word manganese.
What range does the HI97709 method cover?
It covers 0.0 to 20.0 mg/L as Mn. The HI97709 can also display potassium permanganate KMnO₄ or permanganate MnO₄⁻ chemical forms. Record which form is selected; these are not identical numerical reporting bases.
How much sample and reagent are required?
Zero the HI97709 with 10 mL of unreacted sample. Add one HI93709A-0 packet and mix for 2 minutes, then one HI93709B-0 packet and mix for 2 minutes. Both packets are required for a determination.
When should I take the measurement?
After the separate A and B mixing steps, use the HI97709 1-minute-30-second countdown before reading. The development countdown is additional to the two 2-minute mixing periods, not a replacement for them.
Which sample constituents can interfere?
The HI97709 manual lists potential interference from magnesium above 100000 mg/L, chloride above 70000 mg/L, calcium above 700 mg/L and iron above 5 mg/L. Compare the sample matrix with these limits before interpreting a result. Those individual thresholds are not a blanket guarantee for seawater, mixed-metal solutions or samples requiring digestion.
What equipment must I have separately?
Have the HI97709 photometer and its suitable clean cuvette, stopper and cap available separately. Keep the cuvette exterior clean and align its cap notch with the holder groove. The refill does not include the meter, cuvettes or CAL Check standards. Verification standards do not replace the A/B sample reaction.
Where can I find handling and disposal guidance?
Open the US Safety Data Sheet for each of HI93709A-0 and HI93709B-0 in the Manuals/Brochures tab and follow the supplied lot labeling. The manufacturer classifies these packs as Dangerous Goods for ground shipment only. Confirm suitability and shipping arrangements rather than assuming immediate availability.
