HANNA PHOTOMETER REAGENTS · HI93704
Track low-level hydrazine with the right blank.
Keep your hydrazine photometer ready for trace-level water testing with the matched HI93704 liquid reagent. Choose 100 or 300 determinations to suit your workload, while retaining the same chemistry, blank preparation and reporting units.

Match the method, not just the element name
HI97704: 0 to 400 µg/L as N₂H₄. The HI97704 method develops a yellow tint using p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde chemistry adapted from ASTM D1385. Its 0 to 400 µg/L range is reported as hydrazine, N₂H₄—not mg/L and not nitrogen as N.
What the selected pack supplies
The selected complete reagent pack supplies HI93704-0 liquid chemistry for 100 or 300 tests. The verified offer establishes test capacity, not an itemized bottle count or fill volume. Deionized water, cuvettes and photometer are separate requirements.
Where this method fits
A practical replenishment choice for an established hydrazine water-monitoring program. The low reporting range helps keep the method focused on small concentrations. Maintain consistent blank and sample preparation rather than substituting tap water or zeroing with untreated sample.
The HI97704 workflow at a glance
Prepare two clean cuvettes: put 10 mL of deionized water in the first and 10 mL of unreacted sample in the second. Add 12 drops of HI93704-0 to each, replace stoppers and caps, and shake gently for about 30 seconds. Insert the water blank with the cap notch aligned, then use the 12-minute Zero countdown. After zeroing, replace the blank with the reacted sample, align it in the same way and press Read. One complete determination therefore uses 24 drops across both cuvettes.
Check the sample matrix
Highly colored or highly turbid samples and aromatic amines can interfere. Check the matrix before interpreting a trace-level result; the method is not a guarantee of selectivity in every process stream.
Choose a pack around your workload
HI93704-01 supplies 100 tests; HI93704-03 supplies 300 tests. The larger pack supplies three times the determinations, not a different measuring range. One order quantity means one complete selected pack. Choose by testing frequency and the lot/expiry markings on supplied stock.
What to have beside the reagent set
Supply the compatible photometer, cuvettes with stoppers and caps, and the measuring/dispensing accessories required by the method separately. Supply deionized water for the blank. CAL Check standards are separate instrument-verification materials, not replacements for sample reagents.
Handling before you begin
Read the US HI93704-0 SDS before use. The reagent may corrode metals, causes severe skin burns and eye damage, and may cause an allergic skin reaction. Use the specified protective equipment, storage and disposal controls. Hanna identifies both pack sizes as Dangerous Goods for ground shipment only.
Use the linked HI97704 instrument manual as the method reference for the complete procedure, precautions and instrument operation. This is not a separate reagent instruction manual.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I choose 100 or 300 tests?
HI93704-01 supplies 100 tests; HI93704-03 supplies 300 tests. Both are complete reagent sets for the same method. Choose by expected workload and marked expiry dates, not by a different analytical range.
Is the HI97704 range in µg/L or mg/L?
It is 0 to 400 µg/L as N₂H₄ (hydrazine). Do not read that numerical range as mg/L or as nitrogen. Keep the reporting basis with every recorded result.
Does a complete test use 12 or 24 drops?
It uses 24 drops total: 12 drops in a 10 mL deionized-water blank and 12 drops in a separate 10 mL sample. Both cuvettes receive reagent; 12 drops alone is not the complete determination.
Why do I need deionized water?
The HI97704 method uses 10 mL deionized water to prepare its reagent blank. This is distinct from the sample cuvette. Supply deionized water separately and do not substitute untreated sample as the zero.
How long do I wait before zeroing?
After adding reagent to both cuvettes and shaking gently for about 30 seconds, use the 12-minute Zero countdown with the blank in the holder. Then replace it with the reacted sample and press Read. Follow the instrument manual for the complete sequence.
Which photometers are documented for HI93704?
Both packs are documented for HI97704, HI83300, HI83399. The procedure and range on this page use HI97704 as the primary reference; follow the exact instrument method when using another model.
Which sample conditions should I check first?
Highly colored or highly turbid samples and aromatic amines can interfere. Check the matrix before interpreting a trace-level result; the method is not a guarantee of selectivity in every process stream.
Are the instrument, cuvettes and CAL Check standards included?
No. These are reagent-only packs. Provide the photometer, cuvettes with stoppers and caps, and the method-required sampling and dispensing accessories separately. CAL Check standards are separate instrument-validation materials, not test reagents.
