A honey-specific scale set

The HMX-1 brings together moisture, Brix and Baumé for honey sampling. Its moisture range is 13–27%, Brix 58–92%, and Baumé 38–43°. These ranges make the model different from a low-range vineyard Brix instrument. Check the expected sample range rather than selecting any refractometer carrying a Brix label.

Hold, read and set down

The rubber grip limits direct hand-heat transfer while the metal prism housing allows sample and prism to approach temperature equilibrium. A high-contrast optical scale supports the boundary-line reading. The non-roll stand provides a stable resting feature on a flat bench without requiring a separate cradle.

Use the stated precision appropriately

The brochure gives Brix resolution and accuracy of 0.5% and ±0.5%, moisture approximately 1% and ±1%, and Baumé 0.5° and ±0.5°. Automatic temperature compensation covers 10–30°C. For a method needing finer digital moisture increments, compare a digital honey instrument separately rather than assuming all honey models have identical performance.

Choose how much field equipment to carry

Catalog 43006 is the instrument set with vinyl case and small accessories. It is not the larger honey field kit. Keep the supplied instructions with the refractometer and use the appropriate calibration standard and procedure; a high-range honey scale should not be treated like a zero-Brix-only instrument.
