Practical salinity
for seawater work.

5052 converts conductivity to practical salinity using the PSS-78 relationship. It is designed for seawater-type samples, with a 0–100.0 ppt specified range.

Practical salinity is not a direct chemical assay of total dissolved salts. For a sodium-chloride-specific method or another sample matrix, choose the matching instrument and calibration method.

One-button operation.
Automatic compensation.

The pen provides automatic one-point calibration using 50.0 mS/cm conductivity standard. Automatic temperature compensation covers 0–60°C; the model does not display temperature.

Rinse the sensor when moving between different solutions, remove excess water and wait for a stable reading. Clean gently according to the manual to protect the platinum-black coating.

A compact kit
for the sampling round.

The manufacturer lists the 5052 tester, two AAA batteries, calibration solution and a case. IP57 protection supports field use while the small pen body is easy to carry.

Do not infer an immersion depth or continuous underwater operating rating from the protection class. Keep battery contacts dry and follow the manual when cleaning and replacing batteries.

5052 buyer questions

What does the 5052 measure?

Practical salinity in seawater-type samples, calculated from conductivity using PSS-78 and displayed as ppt.

What is the salinity range?

The manufacturer specifies 0–100.0 ppt with ±1.5% full-scale accuracy.

Does it display temperature?

No. It applies automatic temperature compensation over 0–60°C without showing a temperature reading.

Which standard is used for calibration?

Use the specified 50.0 mS/cm conductivity standard for the automatic one-point calibration.

Is this a pH tester?

No. The 5052 measures salinity. A separate pH tester is required for pH measurements.

What powers the tester?

Two AAA batteries. The manual also describes automatic power-off and low-battery indication.

Can I scrub the electrode?

Do not rub or abrade the platinum-black sensing surface. Use the cleaning method in the 5052 manual.

Is it a universal total-salt measurement?

No. Its seawater practical-salinity conversion does not identify individual salts or replace a sample-specific chemical method.
