Built for Western Blot Detection

Expose BluBlot™ HS directly to a blot treated with a chemiluminescent substrate, or use it with calcium tungstate or blue-emitting rare-earth intensifying screens for radiolabeled samples.

Handle and load film under a suitable red safelight, and adjust exposure time to your signal strength. Incubate and wash membranes in our western blot boxes before detection.

Typical Applications

  • Chemiluminescent western blots
  • Southern and northern blots
  • ³²P and ³⁵S labeled gels and membranes
  • ¹²⁵I and ¹⁴C autoradiography
  • Electrophoresis documentation
  • Teaching labs without digital imagers

Tip for Consistent Exposures

Keep the box sealed and store film cool and dry, away from radiation sources and chemical fumes. Start with a short test exposure, then adjust time to your signal, and use the film within its 2-year shelf life for the best background.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is BluBlot™ HS a good alternative to Amersham™ Hyperfilm™ ECL or Carestream® BioMax® film?

It is a blue-sensitive, double-coated autoradiography film for the same chemiluminescent and radiolabel applications, so it is a practical option to evaluate. Exposure times can differ between films, so run a test exposure before switching. Amersham™, Hyperfilm™, Carestream®, and BioMax® are trademarks of their respective owners; Blue Tiger Scientific is not affiliated.

What size is the film and how many sheets are in a box?

Each sheet is 5 × 7 in, and each box contains 100 sheets in a lined, light-safe dispenser.

Which labels and detection methods is it suited for?

It is well suited to chemiluminescent detection and works with ¹⁴C, ³²P, ¹²⁵I, and ³⁵S. It can be used with calcium tungstate or blue-emitting rare-earth intensifying screens.

Can I develop it by hand?

Yes. BluBlot™ HS is compatible with automatic film processors and with manual tray development.

How long does the film last?

Shelf life is 2 years from the date of production. Store unopened boxes cool and dry, away from radiation and chemical fumes.

What is one unit ordered?

One box of 100 sheets.
