The TDS20 turns a conductivity measurement into a TDS reading for routine water and solution checks. Its adjustable conversion factor helps you keep a consistent method when comparing samples or following an established ppm scale.
Choose AI213 when your workflow uses a conductivity-derived TDS value. It is not a direct laboratory measurement of each dissolved substance, and the conversion factor matters.

MATCH THE INSTRUMENT TO THE SAMPLE
Compare suitable water samples using a consistent factor and calibration routine. TDS is a screening or process-trend measurement, not an identification of contaminants.
Use the ppm scale required by your procedure and keep the conversion factor documented. Two testers on different factors can report different TDS values for the same conductivity.
Introduce routine conductivity-derived dissolved-solids measurement with a compact pen. Keep sample handling and temperature conditions comparable between readings.
Conductivity-derived TDS is not a gravimetric dissolved-solids determination. Keep the factor consistent for trends and choose it for the known sample or established method. A low TDS number does not prove that water is safe to drink.
TDS20 displays ppm or ppt according to range, alongside temperature. Its TDS conversion factor is adjustable from 0.40 to 1.00, with a factory default of 0.71. This setting is not an independent guarantee of composition-specific TDS accuracy.
An integrated BPB conductivity sensor supplies the measurement used for the TDS conversion. It is nonreplaceable and has a built-in temperature sensor. Rinse between samples; do not apply glass-pH-electrode KCl storage instructions.
Use the included 1413 µS/cm standard first, then 12.88 mS/cm when appropriate. TDS20 uses conductivity standards for calibration, not a borrowed pH buffer or an assumed ppm standard.
Check the 0.40-1.00 TDS factor and record the choice. The factory default is 0.71. Do not switch factors halfway through a trend comparison without accounting for the change.
Rinse, immerse as directed, stir gently and wait for stability. Rinse after the sample and replace the cap. Follow BPB-sensor care rather than pH-electrode soaking guidance.
These are different measurement choices, not interchangeable names for the same application.
Choose conductivity units when your procedure calls for µS/cm or mS/cm readings.
Choose a TDS display when your workflow specifies ppm/ppt and a conductivity-to-TDS factor.
Choose a focused low-salinity reading. Its 10-ppt ceiling excludes typical full-strength seawater.
Keep pH, conductivity, TDS and salinity distinct when choosing instruments. The following are related measurement options, not accessories that attach to this tester.

The kit includes TDS20, 1413 µS/cm and 12.88 mS/cm conductivity calibration standards, four AAA batteries, lanyard, carrying case and instructions.
TDS20 has ranges of 0-100.0 ppm, 0-1000 ppm and 0-10.00 ppt. Resolutions are 0.1 ppm, 1 ppm and 0.01 ppt respectively; range selection is automatic.
It estimates TDS by converting conductivity using a selected factor. It does not measure each dissolved compound separately or replace a gravimetric laboratory method.
The factor is adjustable from 0.40 to 1.00 and defaults to 0.71. Choose it according to the known sample or established procedure; different factors produce different TDS readings from the same conductivity.
F.S. means full scale, not percent of each displayed result. It does not create a separate guarantee that one conductivity-to-TDS factor is exact for every mixture.
TDS20 calibrates its conductivity measurement at 1413 µS/cm and optionally 12.88 mS/cm, then converts the result to TDS. Follow the manual rather than substituting an unrelated ppm calibration solution.
No. A TDS result cannot identify all contaminants or establish potability. Use the appropriate analytical tests for the specific safety or water-quality question.
The BPB conductivity sensor is integrated and nonreplaceable. Rinse after samples and store capped under the manufacturer’s BPB guidance. Do not borrow the 3M KCl storage routine used for glass pH electrodes.
