Know your solution’s
conductivity at a glance.

Keep routine conductivity checks close at hand. The EC20 reads electrical conductivity and temperature with automatic range selection, a stability indicator and a fixed BPB sensor in a waterproof pocket tester.

Choose AI212 when you want EC readings directly, rather than a TDS estimate or a salinity conversion. Its kit includes the two conductivity standards used for calibration.

MATCH THE INSTRUMENT TO THE SAMPLE

Where EC20 earns its place.

Hydroponic nutrient solutions

Track EC as part of a nutrient-management routine. EC indicates overall ionic conductivity; it does not identify individual nutrients or replace a separate pH measurement.

Water treatment and routine checks

Compare the conductivity of suitable water samples within the tester’s range. A conductivity reading alone does not establish potability or identify a contaminant.

Teaching and field use

Read conductivity and temperature together with a compact tester. Keep calibration, temperature and sample handling consistent when comparing readings.

Accuracy is specified against full scale, not as a percentage of every reading. Match the selected range and accuracy to the task. EC20 measures total conductivity, not the identity or concentration of each dissolved substance.

Conductivity, without a conversion decision.

EC20 displays conductivity in µS/cm or mS/cm according to the range. Automatic temperature compensation operates from 0 to 50°C, and a smiley-face icon indicates stable readings. There is no separate user-visible TDS display mode established for this model.

The Brush-Resistant Platinum Black sensor has a built-in temperature sensor and is not replaceable. Rinse it between samples and keep the protective cap on when stored. It is not a pH glass electrode and should not inherit a pH pen’s KCl storage routine.

Sensor geometry and maintenance requirements are model-specific.

A clear routine, from setup to storage.

01

Condition and calibrate

The manual recommends conditioning in 12.88 mS/cm solution for 15-30 minutes before first use or after long inactivity. Start calibration at 1413 µS/cm, then add 12.88 mS/cm if the sample range requires it.

02

Measure a representative sample

Rinse the sensor, remove excess water, immerse as directed, stir gently and wait for the smiley-face stability icon. Use samples within 0-50°C.

03

Rinse and cap

Rinse after use and replace the protective cap. Follow BPB conductivity-sensor guidance, not PH20 pH-electrode soaking instructions. Do not store this sensor in 3M KCl.

Which measurement do I need?

These are different measurement choices, not interchangeable names for the same application.

EC20 · Read EC directly

Choose conductivity units when your procedure calls for µS/cm or mS/cm readings.

TDS20 · Use a defined factor

Choose a TDS display when your workflow specifies ppm/ppt and a conductivity-to-TDS factor.

Salt20 · Stay below 10 ppt

Choose a focused low-salinity reading. Its 10-ppt ceiling excludes typical full-strength seawater.

Complete the measurement workflow.

Keep pH, conductivity, TDS and salinity distinct when choosing instruments. The following are related measurement options, not accessories that attach to this tester.

EC20 buyer questions

What comes in the EC20 AI212 kit?

The kit includes EC20, 1413 µS/cm and 12.88 mS/cm conductivity standards, four AAA batteries, lanyard, carrying case and instructions. Do not substitute pH buffers for conductivity standards.

What conductivity range does EC20 cover?

Its three measurement ranges extend to 200.0 µS/cm, 2000 µS/cm and 20.00 mS/cm, with 0.1 µS/cm, 1 µS/cm and 0.01 mS/cm resolution respectively. The instrument selects the range automatically.

What does EC20 accuracy mean?

The manual specifies ±1% F.S. ±1 digit. F.S. means full scale, not one percent of each displayed reading. Use the relevant range when evaluating whether the specification meets your method.

Does EC20 display TDS or pH?

No separate TDS or pH display is established for EC20. It displays electrical conductivity and temperature. Select TDS20 for a conductivity-derived TDS display, or a suitable multi-parameter instrument for additional measurements.

Which standards calibrate EC20?

Use 1413 µS/cm for the first calibration point and 12.88 mS/cm for the second when needed. EC20 supports automatic 1-2 point calibration, not three pH-buffer calibration points.

Can EC20 identify individual nutrients or contaminants?

No. Conductivity reflects the combined ionic behavior of a solution. It does not tell you which ions are present and cannot by itself establish drinking-water safety.

Can I replace the EC20 sensor?

No. EC20 uses an integrated, nonreplaceable BPB conductivity sensor with a built-in temperature sensor. The fixed sensor is different from the replaceable electrodes on Apera’s premium 60-series instruments.

How should I store and prepare EC20?

Rinse and cap the BPB sensor; do not copy glass-pH-electrode KCl storage instructions. The EC20 manual specifies 12.88 mS/cm conditioning for 15-30 minutes before first use or after a long idle period.

Choose the kit that fits the work.

Review the EC20 specifications, included items and sample requirements, then return to the price and ordering controls. Blue Tiger Scientific can help you compare the measurement options before ordering.
