APERA GROSTAR / GS1-P / GEN II / AI201G

pH for the routine.
ORP when you need it.

One pen body with two measurement setups. The GS1-P configuration combines the GS1 liquid-pH pen and a separate GS5-E platinum ORP probe, so the additional capability is visible in the kit rather than hidden in an accessory list.

Choose GS1-P when you want the pH and ORP probe set supplied together. Swap the probe to change the measurement; it is not simultaneous pH/ORP capture, and it does not add EC/ppm.

GroStar GS1-P body with standard head and separate GS5-E ORP probe
Manufacturer illustration of the physical two-head configuration; the included ORP probe is separate.

One body. Two heads.
Two separate measurement setups.

The P kit supplies both the standard probe and GS5-E. Physically change the installed head to move between the standard setup and ORP. The extra probe is not hidden inside the pH or combo head.

Standard setup

pH and temperature with GS1-E.

Swap to ORP

Fit the supplied GS5-E and confirm mV mode. ORP is a separate measurement step, not simultaneous capture with the other probe.

What arrives with AI201G?

GS1 pen with GS1-E pH probe, separate GS5-E ORP probe, pH 4.00 and 7.00 buffers (50 mL each), 3M KCl soaking solution (10 mL), four installed AAA batteries, lanyard and instructions.

The supplied-fluid list is separate from optional compatibility: ORP checking solution and pH 10.01 are separate.

WHAT THIS MODEL IS BUILT TO ANSWER

Where GS1-P belongs in the routine.

Liquid pH routines

Use the installed GS1-E for suitable nutrient solutions and aqueous samples. Keep the pH calibration and care routine consistent.

Separate redox checks

Install GS5-E when an ORP reading is part of the procedure. Redox potential is not a direct chlorine or contaminant concentration.

A deliberate two-probe kit

Choose the P configuration when you need both probes supplied, rather than ordering the base pen and assuming an ORP head is in the box.

Choose the contact, not just the model number.

Supplied probe: GS1-E / AI801G plus GS5-E / AI805G. The base sensor is double-junction glass for liquid pH.

Replaceability gives the worn sensor a maintenance path; it is not an unlimited service-life guarantee. Install, condition and calibrate the correct head according to its instructions.

GroStar GS1-P supplied sensing probe detail
Sensing surfaces and care instructions are probe-specific.

A SESSION SUMMARY, NOT A CLOUD LOGGER

Read several spots.
See the spread, not just one number.

In the documented Gen II TruRead workflow, a reading that has stayed stable for seven seconds is recorded for the session. Review the average, maximum and minimum after collecting your measurements. Seven seconds of stability is not the same as a fixed seven-second sampling interval.

6.2 pH

Illustrative minimum

6.3 pH

Illustrative average

6.4 pH

Illustrative maximum

The three illustrative values explain the summary; they do not prescribe a fixed sample count. This pH example does not establish TruRead behavior for the separate ORP setup. The reviewed instructions do not establish retained history, timestamps or export. Use a suitable logger if those are requirements.

Calibrate the sensor you are actually using.

Calibrate the pH setup at 7.00 then 4.00, with pH 10.01 separate when appropriate. ORP is checked with a suitable ORP standard using the value at the actual solution temperature, not with pH buffers.

Rinse

Rinse between standards and samples to limit carryover. Remove excess water and bubbles, then wait for stability.

Check

Use fresh, correct standards. A calibration reminder or electrode-condition display supports the routine; it does not replace checking the method.

The right routine, shown by Apera.

Watch the manufacturer’s family tutorial alongside the current Gen II manual. The video is a practical family reference, not proof that every photographed control or accessory is identical across revisions.

Rinse water is not automatically storage liquid.

The GS1-E pH glass follows GS1’s humid-cap/long-term KCl instructions and must not be stored immersed in pure water. Keep ORP checking and probe care specific to GS5-E; pH slope percentages do not describe platinum ORP-electrode condition.

Expecting two readings at once

The ORP probe replaces the pH probe on the same body. Confirm the installed probe and displayed unit before recording.

Treating ORP as a safety verdict

Use it within an established process and alongside the required analytical checks. An ORP number alone does not prove treatment efficacy or water safety.

Read the slope, not a “life remaining” gauge.

The pH condition figure shown after calibration describes electrode response. It is not a battery indicator, soil-health score or guaranteed percentage of service life left. Use the manual’s cleaning, conditioning and calibration checks before deciding whether to replace the probe.

Calibration markers remind you about the routine. Their disappearance after the documented reminder period is not evidence that the pen has automatically erased calibration.

When a separate field-meter format makes more sense.

If the job is a cabled-probe water-testing workflow rather than a pocket grower pen, compare the alternatives below. These are separate instruments, not plug-in accessories or direct-soil replacements for GS1-P.

GS1-P buying and ownership questions

What does the P kit add over GS1?

GS1-P supplies a separate GS5-E ORP probe alongside the GS1 pH pen and its pH probe. The base GS1 kit does not include that ORP head.

Does GS1-P measure pH and ORP simultaneously?

No. Change the installed probe to change the measurement. The pH probe does not become an ORP sensor merely by selecting another screen.

Is this also an EC/ppm tester?

No. The supplied GS1-E and GS5-E cover pH/temperature and ORP workflows. For EC/ppm plus pH with an ORP kit, compare the GS4-P configuration.

What probes and fluids are supplied?

The GS1-P configuration supplies GS1-E and GS5-E with pH 4.00 and 7.00 buffers and KCl soaking solution. An ORP checking standard is not listed among those supplied fluids; choose it separately.

What are the documented pH and ORP specifications?

pH is 0.0-14.0 with 0.1 resolution and ±0.1 pH accuracy. Apera’s US family catalog lists GS1-P ORP at -1000 to +1000 mV, 1 mV resolution and ±2 mV accuracy. No extra full-scale/digit term is added here.

Can I calibrate ORP with the pH buffers?

No. Use a suitable ORP standard for response checking against the bottle’s reference at the actual temperature. The GroStar manual does not establish the ORP60 model’s on-device adjustment menu for GS1-P.

Does TruRead mean permanent logging?

No persistent history, export or timestamp specification is established by the reviewed Gen II instructions. TruRead describes stable readings and session average/max/min; do not assume that extends to every optional-probe mode.

Which replacement probes fit this supplied setup?

The specified heads are GS1-E, AI801G, and GS5-E, AI805G. Follow the matching electrode’s installation, checking and care instructions rather than treating pH-glass and platinum-ORP procedures as identical.

Choose the measurement.
Confirm the supplied probe.

Review the GS1-P kit and specifications, then return to the price and ordering controls. Blue Tiger Scientific can help you match the measurement, sensor and routine before ordering.
